Andy Cancela purchased this house in 2008
We think Plantation Key is the jewel of the Florida Keys. Islamorada is the coined the 'fishing capital of the world'. Andy has completely remodeled the property inside and out planting over 600 trees and shrubs to create a lush private paradise.
It offers an abundance of open space and privacy. There are breath-taking sunrises and an ever-changing lure of the ocean view. This unique property is somewhat of a compound. We have the main house which is comprised of a 1BR 1BA master suite and a 2BR 2BA downstairs apartment. Privately located adjacent to the main house is a unique Red Cross cottage built in the 1930's.
This was our 3rd. stay in the keys, first time ocean side. It is in a perfect location, close to shopping and great restaurants. We rented a boat from A1A Watersports and Boat Rentals, and fished the whole time, close to two cuts through to the bay, and several reefs. We would rent this home again.
Our family was swept away by the beautiful ocean front views and many amenities of this island retreat. It is a perfect spot for a romantic getaway or a family reunion and is situated perfectly as a haven for many popular day trips. It is just an hour from the Everglades national park, minutes from swimming with the dolphins, beautiful family, friendly beaches and snorkel spots, and is a scenic drive to key west. So if you are a sports enthusiast, love lying on the beach or enjoy exploring the "tastes" the keys have to offer, this sprawling home is perfect for you. Love cannot begin to express our emotions when telling others of this amazing spot!
Sanctuary of the upper keys is A huge property. we took our two kids and their grandparents and our family dog and had more than enough space and accommodations. The dock was nice to have and at night we saw squid by the dozens Tarpon barracudas and mangrove snapper. The area has good local restaurants and shopping. The kids thought the property was cool with the iguanas banana trees and coconuts. It was so hard to leave !!!!! Wanted to stay forever !!!!
The owners are the most gracious and loving people you will ever meet. Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay. My wife and I have four children who were not ready to leave at the end of our stay. We will be talking about this trip for years to come. We enjoyed swimming and kayaking in front of the house. The fishing from the pier was excellent! From the pier we saw a variety of tropical fish. A couple of our favorites were the stingrays and snapper. On our last evening a manatee swam by the end of the pier. That was one of the highlights of our trip. We also saw an Atlantic bottle nose dolphin up close while visiting Founders Park.
The home itself is beautifully furnished and is ideal for a multi family vacation. The landscaping which included perfectly arranged palm trees and number of different shrubs in bloom was beautiful. To say that is a picturesque place is an understatement. We took in the incredible sunrises and enjoyed viewing the reflection of the moon on ocean each evening.
The home, hammocks, landscaping, ocean front view, privacy, and plethora of fish and wildlife make this a perfect vacation destination. It was a vacation our family will never forget. The memories made with our children (17, 16, 13, 10) were priceless.
The home is in close driving distance to the main marinas, grocery stores, and sea food restaurants. You will enjoy soaking in the sun and beauty of God's creation from this tropical vacation spot.
Andy and Marianne are the best. Praise the Lord!
First of all, the owner is the nicest person! Second, the location, is the most beautiful in all I have seen! I am myself from Miami, but this unique privacy of the ocean access, "personal" sunrises and quiet, relaxing vibe is something I've enjoyed like never before. Third, the house, our upstairs apartment was so nice and modern and the view from it is to die for. Parents stayed with a little baby in the cottage, so it is nice and quiet, and the rest of the kids downstairs. We all had a blast, my dad was fishing non-stop, we did kayaking and kids were swimming in the ocean and running around this huge property. We will come back!
This was our best vacation ever! We have 2 married kids with 3 grandkids. The cottage was perfect for our Son, his wife and 3 year old. Downstairs was taylor made for our daughter, her husband and 2 girls. Upstairs was the perfect place for me and my wife! Everyone gathered upstairs for our meals and fellowship! The view is incredible! The water is beautiful! The Sunrise is astounding! My granddaughters and I met on the dock every morning at 6:45 to watch the beauty of the red and yellow as the sun rose over the ocean! The food in the restaurants is great! Ma's Fish Camp was our favorite! Ann's Beach is great, snorkeling at the state park was incredible and Key West was a fun day! There is so much to do here and the views are great! The property here is spacious and well kept! You will see peacocks, iguanas, stingray, tarpon and all kinds of fish! Birds are everywhere and there is practically no waves in the ocean! I could go on and on about this place, but you need to experience it for yourself! Andy and Marianne, the owners, are top notch people who will take care of you. Come see the beauty of God's creation from this special place! Praise the Lord!
The Keys is home to every water sport imaginable. There are activities for adults and children alike. There is the Theatre of the Sea which is a marine life zoo offering swimming with dolphins. Islamorada has once been coined the fishing capital of the world offering fishing of every kind. Another big attraction is the John Pennekamp State Park which offers some of the best snorkeling/diving with the famous underwater Jesus statue. There are also several other area attractions that can be found to suit your needs. We have a list of our favorite things to do and places to eat located in the handbook upon arrival.
