Originally from North Vancouver Barry and Holly have now been 35 year residents of the Sunshine Coast. Barry is an elementary school principal and Holly loves to manage the vacation rentals engaging in new friendships from around the globe.
Holly Krangle purchased this house in 2003
Entering into his 30th year of teaching, Barry was offered the opportunity to teach at the American School in Guadalajara, Mexico. We gave up everything and loaded our vehicle with excited thoughts of adventure and stories a year away would gift us. A short 12 months later on the long 5000 mile drive north realtor friends, knowing we were returning homeless, informed us of this perfect house for sale. It was love at first site by fax.
Our home was built by a single mom for her and her daughter. It had good bones, particularly the central rock hearth home to the cast iron wood stove, but hadn't the opportunity to fulfill it's true 'Arts & Craft's' potential. Barry and I let the house tell us what it wanted to become so we enjoyed every step of the renovation as it revealed our new home.
We have rented Krangle Kottage for the last 3 years and can honestly say that you won't find more accommodating hosts, in Holly and Barry. We fell in love with their beautiful home the first time we walked into it and feel it's a privilege that they have opted to share it with us, and our 4 legged friend. In response to the pet hair review, I have to say that it's always been well posted that it's a pet friendly accommodation - that's how we found it in the first place. However the home is always spotless when we arrive and I can't possible imagine if I was super allergic to anything (pets, dust, trees, etc.) that I wouldn't have taken responsibility to inquire ahead of booking, that the accommodations were suitable. It irks me to read something like that when in fact it's an absolutely charming, well-equipped, centrally located, and perfectly clean home that you'd be lucky to get to spend a week in the summer in! We'll be heading off to Krangle Kottage in a few days, sadly without our 4 legged friend this year, but can hardly wait to settle in, have a glass on wine on the cozy front deck and do like the locals do...chill!
Holly was a pleasure to deal with and one of the more accommodating hosts I've dealt with. House was in immaculate condition when we arrived. Very open concept which was great for a family trip - there are spots to get away from the kids for a few minutes and relax while still feeling connected to everyone (loft for the TV room). Kitchen has beautiful patio off it that opens right up with some outdoor benches to relax on. Private yard and about a 3min drive to "downtown" Roberts Creek. Nice size aquarium as well our kid (and me!) loved. Will definitely be back.
My family and I stayed at this place for a week, and it was overall a great experience. The beach is a short walk away, it's a bit of a hike to restaurants and groceries but you should be OK if you have a car. Roberts Creek "central plaza" is easy to reach by bike. There you can eat at the Gumboot restaurant or have coffee at a little cafe. Aside from that you can go Gibsons which is a 15 to 20 minute drive, which is also where the ferry is. It's close to natural beauty, lots of hiking and biking around.
Though my partner is allergic to cats she had no problems in the house at all.
The house is fully stocked with fresh towels, great cooking supplies and games for rainy days! I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a BC nature getaway!
We booked this cottage based on the fact that there were no pets accepted because both myself and our friend's wife who we were travelling with are super allergic to cats! We arrived ahead of our friends to find out that they live in the house 10 months out of the year with their 2 HUGE fluffy cats and dog. The place had never been professionally cleaned not only for our stay but EVER. So the place was completely full of cat hair on everything. In addition, the toilet upstairs was also filthy. When I booked I specifically asked if the property was going to be professionally cleaned prior to my arrival and she had confirmed this. My husband and 12 year old son got out the vaccuum and I had to start wiping everything down it was awful. This was actually my birthday weekend and I spent the whole afternoon and evening trying to just make it tolerable for the one night and spending the rest of the time frantically calling every place I could find to book for the remaining 3 nights. You can imagine how easy that was to find on a long weekend!! The owner was not very understanding and didn't see why it was not cool to not inform people that pets lived there or to have it professionally cleaned including carpet and furniture steam cleaning before her guests arrive for the season. So if you don't mind living with all their pet's hair then this is the place for you.
I've stayed in Roberts Creek before and it is a beautiful, quaint little village just feet from the seashore. This lovely home is on a quiet cul-de-sac, safe for children and within walking distance to a beautiful beach. The hostess, Holly, is one of the nicest people you'll meet. She made us feel right at home. I LOVE the privacy of this property.
Our home is in the quaint coastal community of Roberts Creek. Only a scenic 40 minutes ferry ride from breathtaking Vancouver and 2 hours from majestic Whistler. A destination for the perfect marriage of relaxing and reconnecting and activity and adventure.
