This unique waterfront 1700 square foot fully furnished home is built on pilings right on beautiful Fort Bayou walking distance to downtown Ocean Springs. The bayou feeds into Biloxi Bay which leads to the Gulf of Mexico. The home has an elevator for ease in handling luggage and groceries with a separate stair to the front door. There is an outdoor deck approximately 1400 square ft which is a wonderful place to relax and observe the wildlife, boats, dauphin, pellicans, ducks, blue herons and hawks which are just a few of the wildlife viewed from the deck, boardwalk, or pier. You can easily walk to downtown Ocean Springs which is filled with art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. The first casino is about 5 miles away and can be walked, driven or boated to it's location. Charter boats are also available in Ocean Springs or Biloxi for fishing. Fort Bayou is known for kayaking, water skiing, pontoon boat sightseeing, and fishing. Rent or bring your own boat and tie up to our 90 foot pier.
If you love golf there are many courses within a short drive with the closest being in sight of the property just across the bayou.
The home is an open concept. The kitchen is fully stocked and equipped with stove, oven, microwave, double sink, full size refrigerator and wet bar included in the kitchen island. This large room also has a game table, breakfast table, 4 bar stools at the kitchen island, couch and chairs. There is a 40 inch flat screen TV connected to direct TV and a DVD player. The kitchen and bathrooms have tile flooring with the remainder of the home having bambo wood flooring.
Both bedrooms have Queen Beds and one bedroom has ensuite bath with walk in jetted tub/shower combination and double vanity. The second full bath is right outside the other bedroom door and has a shower tub combination with single vanity.
There is a full size washer and dryer in a separate utility room.
Bikes are sometimes available with the home to explore the Ocean Springs area. Beaches are not crowded and a short distance from the home. Once you see the deck and pier you will probably not see a need for a beach exploration. Seafood is plentiful and depending on the time of year, you will find something in season: fish, crab, crawfish, shrimp and oysters.
This home is on the same property as the owner but the homes are not connected. The renter will be using a shared driveway with the owner of the property.
I grew up in this area and always dreamed of living on this bayou. I only left the area to attend dental school and then returned to set up my practice. Married and built a larger home on the property. This rental home was completed rebuilt after Katrina. My wife and I have enjoyed the sunsets and have never given a thought to moving from this beautiful area.
Anita purchased this house in 1990
As a child I fished and paddled around this bayou. This is a very safe, friendly place to live.
This property offers total relaxation with quiet evenings and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. But just a couple of miles away there are casinos and lots of excitement. You get the best of both worlds.
Everything about this rental was extremely pleasant! Perhaps most pleasant were the owners who welcomed us with a bottle of wine and immediately made us feel right at home. They continued to be both generous and accommodating throughout our entire stay. The property is in a great location and we enjoyed being tourists in Ocean Springs. We are fortunate to have met this great couple and stayed in this comfortable beach oasis.
We stayed in this charming getaway in May of 2014. We travelled with our parents who wanted a relaxing and peaceful home to overlook the water. When we arrived, we were greeted at the driveway. Mom and Dad (who are in their 80's) enjoyed the elevator ride to the main level of the house. Anita was very gracious. She left us a "welcome basket" filled with snacks and beverages. She also remembered to set out brochures of things to do around town. The house is within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We really did not have to venture away from the house. It was quite, secluded and the sunsets were amazing!
We fished and set crab traps right off of the attached pier. We truly were surprised that we were offered homemade meals prepared for us (Cajun of course). The owners offered to take us on the boat for a ride. We would have loved to but mother was not up to it.
We would recommend this home for those that want to getaway and yet be close to the charm Ocean Springs. We hope to come back next year.
This home on the bayou was just the ticket for us. Beautiful view of Fort Bayou with bird watching galore. The home itself was decorated tastefully in a gulf coast theme which added to our overall feeling of being on vacation. A well appointed home with everything we could need and if we couldn't find it the owners went above and beyond the call to help out when they could. The location was great - the grocery store and restaurants are close by, even walking to the the beach is very doable. We'd recommend this home for a lovely stay in Ocean Springs, MS.
Wonderful week/weekend in our Mississippi "hometown" full of golf, old friends, new friends, and Georgia beating LSU in football! Thank you Anita and Mike for not only welcoming us, but our friends and Sammy, the dog. We will be back!
I am originally from Ocean Springs so I know first hand how much beauty is on the Gulf Coast and this place captures everything what my hometown is all about.
I needed to find a place for my family and relatives to gather during the day and evenings to have us all under one roof. I also needed a place that was centrally located to hotels for my relatives to stay, casinos for some fun and downtown Ocean Springs for some night life.
When I came across this location I noticed it was the perfect location to everything that I was looking for and it was walking distance to downtown Ocean Springs. Plus, after connecting with Anita and Mike with their southern hospitality, I knew this was the place.
When visiting we rented a pontoon boat from the Air Force base (my brother is in the service so we had the option) and docked it on the pier for weekend boat rides. We celebrated birthdays, BBQs on the bottom deck and went fishing off the pier. The fully stocked kitchen helped with the family gatherings and for cooking large meals. The sunsets each day were just amazing off the upper patio and was a great place to relax after enjoying the day.
I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the Gulf Coast and that wants to experience what life is all about in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. I am now in California and thinking back on my great experience I had at this residence with my family, I am missing my hometown already.
Thanks Again Anita and Mike! See you again soon!
We stayed at Fort Bayou because my daughter had a soccer tournament in Pascagoula, MS. We really enjoyed the sunsets over the bayou. Playing cards on the large deck was definitely a highlight. The owners were very accommodating and the place was very clean and nice. I would definitely recommend the place to anyone and I hope to visit again.
This area is known for its art museums and quaint restaurants. Walter Anderson and Mary C are just 2 of the famous local museums. Cross a bridge and casinos and live entertaintment are plentiful. Water sports are also available.
