We've been coming to Lewes for well over 20 years and absolutely love it here. It's a special town and well-kept secret. When our children were young we found Lewes Beach to be the perfect sand-castle building spot. Now that they are older, they still enjoy the beach but also take full advantage of the kayaking, fishing, bicycling and shopping options around town. We never run out of things to do or places to explore in Lewes. When we need a little more hustle-bustle we head over to Rehoboth for the boardwalk (Funland is the favorite boardwalk attraction) but we are always very happy to return to Lewes.
Christine Rich purchased this house in 2012
On one of my early trips to Lewes I noticed this house, and more importantly all the fun that people were having on the porch, and fell in love with it immediately. It just looked like a fun, comfortable place to be, and it became my dream to own a place like this. When this very house was listed for sale it was a dream come true, and I am absolutely thrilled to be able to share this special home with others.
I want to make this special house comfortable and inviting for all who visit it. We've furnished it with a combination of lovely antiques and high-end new furniture. We always welcome your feedback in order to make the home even better, but we are confident you will enjoy your stay.
So glad we rented this charming home! It was just me and my husband for a little seaside get-away. We are fussy travelers and this property did not disappoint. It was extremely clean and nicely furnished. The AC worked great both downstairs and upstairs when the temps rose into unseasonable 90's. While we did no cooking at all, the kitchen seemed to have all the amenities one would need to prepare meals. Linens were provided; towels were not, so take your bath and beach towels. The home is truly lovely and very comfortable, and would accommodate a family nicely -- master suite with private bath upstairs; queen bed room and a room with two full sized beds sharing a bathroom upstairs; and a bedroom downstairs with two twin beds and another bath. The outdoor fenced in back yard looked newly landscaped and was very nice -- All of the landscaping around the home is nicely tended. We used two of the beach chairs provided in the shed for our daily excursions. You are within a short walking distance of the restaurants and shopping, so each evening we could just stroll to dinner, and that was great! Henlopen State Park is just a 5 minute drive, and we highly recommend it, not only for the long wide beaches, but the walking/biking trails and all of the history that is there (take your bug spray or wipes if you are planning on doing any of the walks, it was pretty buggy). We also recommend taking a walk with a printed guide in some of the local church yards to learn about the history of the different graves--that was interesting. There's a lot of beautiful buildings in Lewes and a lot of history to be learned. The town is small, quaint, quiet and felt completely safe to be out walking at night. The Pink Lady is located on corner of a street that has a fair amount of traffic by day -- but by evening there was very little traffic and we were not disturbed at night not even once (although I travel with a fan for white noise, and that always helps). The time of year that we visited proved to be pretty uncrowded, since the season hadn't really started yet. We would highly recommend this rental property to anyone -- for its cleanliness -- for its amenities -- for its location. We had no complaints whatsoever and hope to return in the fall! Thank you Chris for sharing your wonderful property! The Pink Lady did not disappoint!
Six of us just had a wonderful reunion at the Pink Lady. The home is lovely, comfortable and large. The living room is beautiful but the sunroom with its large windows and comfy sofa was where we usually gathered. It's a very short walk to town with its many restaurants and boutiques. Highly recommend you stay in this charming home!
Wow--this has to be the most lovely, clean, well-furnished and well-equipped house we have ever rented. The exterior and interior are pristine and the furnishings are comfortable and beautiful. It's located a few blocks from the Lewes museum and the town itself, so we were able to easily go to town for dinner and shopping. A very short drive to Lewes beach. Can't recommend it enough! The kitchen had everything we needed and there are two living areas and four spacious bedrooms, each beautifully decorated. One of the baths has a claw-foot tub. The owner was quick to respond and great to work with. We wish we could have stayed longer but will be back!
Truly fantastic weekend at The Pink Lady. This is our second time staying there. Totally renovated Victorian that is a jewel of Lewes. Great location near the best restaurants, open kitchen well stocked with modern conveniences, off-street parking, storage for bikes and beach equipment, wrap around porch and side yard with grill for outdoor entertaining-the perfect house for romantic getaways, families, and groups of DC professionals who need an escape! We'll definitely stay here again on our next trip to Lewes!
Christine, we had a wonderful time at the Pink Lady. This was the perfect place to prepare for my daughter's wedding weekend! The house was spacious and very clean. It was stocked with much more than I had anticipated. Everyone that stayed with us thoroughly enjoyed it. The location was perfect for a nice stroll into the town of Lewes or just sitting on the porch to relax a bit. Thank you for being so accommodating and responsive. Our stay at the Pink Lady was definitely one of the highlights of the celebration. I would highly recommend it!
Can't wait to see the pictures taken in the Pink Lady from the photographer. I will definitely send a few to you. I know they will be beautiful!
Lewes is a very special town, sometimes called the Nantucket of Delaware. As the 'first town in the first state' of the US, Lewes is a town of historical significance, but the best parts of Lewes are what is found today: wonderful restaurants, great local small-town shops, canal-front parks, and of course the beach. We especially enjoy 'Agave' a very popular Mexican restaurant on Second Street, and the local coffee shop (Lewes Bake Shoppe), and our son can often be seen enjoying a fine cup of tea while reading the day away at Cafe Azafran.
Another wonderful thing about Lewes is that you can enjoy both bay and ocean beaches because the town is situated where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. Just across the Canal you will find Lewes Beach, a wonderfully accessible beach with plentiful parking and shower/restroom facilities for your convenience. From the house you can easily walk or bicycle to the beach. It's a great beach for young children.
If you prefer stronger waves, Cape Henlopen State Park is just down the road -- we usually bicycle to it. There's a large bathhouse for changing before you enter the beach. There is also a very charming Nature Center with hands-on activities for the kids, and free bicycles for your use if you need them. The bike path around the State Park takes you past the historic Henlopen Lighthouse and the site of U.S. army bunkers that were built along the coast to spot enemy ships in 1941. The 5193-acre park contains a wealth of natural beauty. In addition to the attractive bay and ocean beaches, the Gordon's Pond Wildlife Area features a unique saltwater inpoundment. Hiking trails and interpretive displays throughout the park help visitors to learn about the fascinating natural features found at Cape Henlopen State Park.
Finally, for lots of waves, people, and boardwalk fun Rehoboth Beach is just a short drive away.
