This property adjoins property that was originally purchased by a family member in 1935, when the entire lake area was still pastureland. This cottage was built by another family member, and passed to the current owner when the original owner passed away.
The entire property encompassing two cottages and about 1 acre of land has been in the same family since 1935. It is now in the 4th generation of owners, and the desire of all is to maintain the property in its current useable state for many years to come.
As a vacation location, it is ideal. 2 hour drive to Boston, an hour drive to the seacoast at Wells, York, or Portland, 2 hour drive to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. An easy day trip to Acadia National Park. The best fishing on the lake is right off our dock. Enjoy the calling of the Loons at night, the cool, breezy nights, and misty mornings.
Rented 7/30-8/6/16, just my husband and me. We've rented on many lakes all over Maine. Wilson Lake water is clean, bottom is a mix of sand, rocks, moss, tall weeds but not bothersome-water shoes came in handy. We brought kayaks and spent most of our time on the lake.Cabin is cozy, everything is there that you would need. The queen bed was very comfy, the porch was wonderful, the breeze was heavenly.Loons were a welcomed sight and sound, saw an eagle swoop down for a fish. Owner Joanna was next door at the main house for most of our stay and was very helpful. We ate Teds 3 times for dinner and Mels Raspberry Patch once for breakfast. Went to Willeys and Iron Tail Saloon for wings and beers. Willeys is more family friendly. All good. Shopped at Hannefords for groceries. Check out Mardens on a rainy day - they have EVERYTHING. We picked blueberries at Blueberry Hill. Its a nice ride from the cabin. All that we wanted to do was within 20 miles. It's a great location., and the quiet on the lake was just what we needed. We hope to return again.
My best friend and I went and stayed for the weekend to get away from everything. We were also able to bring her 2 dogs with us. The cable couldn't be more quaint! Clean, comfortable and had everything we needed....well except a wine corkscrew which a neighbor so kindly let us borrow :)
The lake was one of the cleanest I've ever seen! Really happy with everything and we cannot wait to go back next year!
I found this hideaway on Home Away and it was perfect for me. Nice relaxing get away. Lots of fishing and swimming on wonderful Lake Wilson. The lake is nice and clean and peaceful The property owner was very helpful in answering all of my questions and giving directions to the property.I really loved it there and plan to return next year for a longer stay. The location is very private and quiet loved sitting on the dock fishing and watching the sun set. By the way, fishing was great.Cant wait till next year. I want to thank the property owner for being so helpful. Thank You!
My wife and two kids had a great time last week. And received our full deposit back while still driving home! The teenager took the bedroom and my 10 year old daughter colonized the front porch space to sleep in. The camp has a great feel to it. A converted boxcar with exposed structure, cool nooks, nails for hanging things up where needed. Right on the lake, but with a screen of trees for privacy. Plenty of pots/pans, etc. for cooking. Great location on a lake, but close enough to seacoast. Fishing ok for smallmouth at dusk. (No avoiding the jet skis and water-skiers, fireworks, and ATVs, alas, but the noise ended at 10:00. If the loons could handle it so could we.) We loved it -- the sun rose behind us and we watched the sunshine move towards us across the lake every morning. Lovely. We canoed and swam every day, walked about the lake, and my son ran his 3+ miles per day. We ate great -- close enough to seacoast to get soft-shell lobsta and steamers. Close enough to NH lake district to explore there as well.
Our stay was perfect. The cabin was just as we imagined. Everything we needed was provided for us. No need to bring dishes, pots and pans, utensils: one of the main reasons we chose this place. We were able save a ton of money on food by going grocery shopping when we arrived and using the full kitchen. One thing that we didn't expect was there didn't seem to be any bed sheets provided. Had to buy a few sets at the local discount store. Aside from that, everything was perfect! Nice and quiet getaway. Our two kids were shocked to find there is no T.V., but they survived. Between the board games that we brought and the ones provided, swimming and boating in the lake, the kids nearly forgot about the T.V. There is free Wi-Fi, so we were at least able to unwind at the end of each day on our mobile devices. Also, the price was perfect! For the same price of a cheap motel room with no amenities, we enjoyed a two bedroom lakeside cabin with a living room, fully equipped kitchen, and sunporch that we used as a dining room. There's even a daybed on the sunporch! We just came home from our four day stay and we're already talking about planning next summer's stay at the same cabin.
The camp at Wilson Lake is a nice place to stay on a beautiful lake. It is a cosee and rustic camp. The only thing I found with it was the pots and pans and some of the dishes. A very good stay. Thank You
