Habaru House apartment 31 G is a ground floor "ocean facing" apartment of the Habaru House. It is deluxe apartment with a queen size bedroom for up to two people.

South of the Village proper the Habaru House is a 12-20 minute walk to outstanding oceanfront restaurants and several road side eateries in an area I call “South Hopkins”. Email me for a 'map of Doug’s favorites'. The Village proper is a short bicycle ride away on one of our owner supplied bicycles or rent a golf cart from us.

It is a terrific home base for all your Belize adventures. We are located on one of the nicest beaches in the country. Enjoy the beautiful oceanfront from the white sand beach or ground floor covered patio with its exotic cane ceiling. On the beach for your use are beach chairs under a Mayan palapa, a lazy day hammock, and an outside charcoal grill.

Perfect for the “honeymoon” or anniversary couple!

The Habaru House 31G is an open living area on the ground floor with 3 sets ocean facing French doors. Local artwork and wall hangings enhance the atmosphere. If you choose to cook in you will enjoy the fully equipped kitchen with exotic wood cabinets adjacent to the dining and living areas.

An emergency cell phone is provided in the unit. Additional minutes can be purchased at Diversity Cafe.

The flooring is Mexican tile, all exterior and interior trim is Belize mahogany. The interior doors are hand made from local “poison wood”, known for its outstanding wood grain. The spacious master bedroom has walk-in shower with glass surround and a unique hand craved stone sink.

31G is the ground floor unit with its entrance and lock box facing the ocean. Above it Is the Habaru House a 4 bedroom 4 bath on the 2nd and 3rd floor, rented separately some families rent top and bottom (31G) and take advantage of the internal connecting / locked off stair well. The fishing is wonderful! If fresh lobster and conch are something you are looking for, you have come to the right place!?We are half mile south of three of the best ocean front restaurants in Belize. Or go into the village and eat at one of the local restaurants and enjoy a local cultural “Garifuna” dish.

This apartment features all of the comforts of home; flat screen TV, cd player, iPod player, high end appliances, reading materials. You will not be roughing it on this Belize adventure! Check out the photos.

Don’t feel like cleaning, cooking, or doing the laundry on vacation. We can arrange all of these for an additional charge. Make your vacation a true vacation! Transportation to and from Dangriga airport is also available.?

How to get here: Four major airlines fly into Belize International Airport (BZE). From there you have two options: rent a car and drive down to Hopkins or take one of the regional carriers (Tropic Air or Maya Air) to the Dangriga Airport where we can arrange to pick you up.

Saltwater fly fishing was the addiction that brought my family to Hopkins, Belize but it was the laid back atmosphere and warm, friendly people of Hopkins that made our decision to build a home an easy one.

Hopkins was a natural choice for me. The flats are a quick panga ride away and the local restaurants are just down the beach. If you are looking for a relaxed, laid back town, Hopkins fits the bill perfectly.

What makes this apartment unique

Tranquility and comfort; the Habaru House is set on a double lot for added privacy. The huge back deck is a perfect place for you as you gaze over the Caribbean Sea. Many mornings you will find flocks of Green Parrots in the tree surrounding the house.

I switched my reservation to Habaru House from Bocatura Cabin. The best decision of my entire vacation. Excellent facility, easy on the budget, clean, fully well-equipped including washer & dryer. No iron though! Other amenities kayaks, bikes, golf cart & the best staff. Tony (property mgr), Chef Dana (pronounced Donna) Tony's wife & Gilbert were very attentive & considerate of their clients. I couldn't have asked for better accommodations. Habaru House is close to fine dining & many tours can be arranged through Tony or the tour companies located in the area. There are many hiking & exploratory adventures within an hour or two of Hopkins. Doug provided excellent driving directions from Belize City but the house is about 4 miles South from the right turn onto Main Street in Hopkins not 2 miles. It is a pretty pink 2 story house, on the right. The rental unit was beautifully well appointed. Wonderful dining can be found at Chef Rob's, Barracuda Grill & Loggerheads (burgers). In addition, the Curve bar on the Sittee River marina has delicious food & drinks. For an extra treat have Chef Dana cook for you. Fantastic! Take one of the kayaks & travel from the house to the Sittee River Marina. Tie up at the dock & enjoy your day. I tried one local eatery, Innie's & was pleasantly surprised the food was delicious & inexpensive. I didn't get a chance to try a Smoothie from the smoothie shop or eating at Sunrise Cafe & I wish I had tried the Butterflies Spa before my vacation ended. I loved being able to walk out of the door of the apartment & step onto the beautiful clean, sandy beach. The house is in walking distance to Chef Rob's & the Barracuda Grill. I drove to Placencia for the Lobster Fest & Tutti Fruitti's fabulous gelato. The Pickled Parrot was also a good gathering place for tourists and expats. A great day of fun. Dangriga is close by for additional explorations & has an airport if don't want to drive from Belize City. There are 2 grocers & E&A's fruit & vegetable vendor in Hopkins village if cooking for yourself. There were several local vendors of local art, colorful cloth, hammocks which are absolutely beautiful, one vendor, Alex is quite a character. Great places to shop for gifts for family & friends. I absolutely loved Hopkins, Belize, there's lots to do. For a more rugged experience try Bocatura Cabin but bring lots & lots of mosquito spray. I'm planning next year's visit. Give Habaru House a try, believe me, you won'

It is only a vacation if you leave... almost didn't. Anyone can buy a house and rent it out to tourists, but Doug and family have created a experience that far surpasses your expectations. All the pre-trip information is invaluable for planning and it continues once you arrive. Anthony and Dana were there almost every day to see if there was anything we needed, and if we did they were so pleasant and helpful. I can repeat the accolades about how nice it is and what an amazing place is to stay because it is all true and then some; however, the real difference between renting this from Doug and any other property is the experience Doug provides. We found ourselves saying "tonight when we get home" or "do we have any milk at home" the first week.

His recommendation to stop by and join Tony and Angela at Beaches and Dreams (Barracuda Bar & Grill) for dinner was spot on. The food is amazing, the prices are very fair, the views are breathtaking, and the owners make you feel like family. I am a seafood LOVER and Tony makes lobster to die for... best I have ever had.

Hint: Milk comes on Friday and fresh fruit is Tuesday and Friday to the grocery store. Bring lots of Back Woods Off and you will have a blast... even in the off-season.

Very nice place. Beach was a good view but had a lot of trash on it. House was clean. Have Dana cook a meal for you. Outstanding. The road is like the surface of the moon but they were working on improving it when we left.

Owner's Response: Sorry Matt, but your apparently not firmilar with the sea shore, the trash you mention is sea weed. When the wind is out of the north , like it has been in the upper 48 States this winter, we will get some accumulation of sea weed. Anthony and a helper cleared the beach every morning, only to have mother nature blow in some sea weed during the day. I confirmed this with my next door neighbor who lives there all winter. It was windy while you were visiting.

Really great stay

Excellent all around

Doug was very prompt in responses, welcomed all questions and provided advice and was very accommodating to allow us to come a day early.

The apartment was beautiful, spacious and well appointed. Everything we needed was there. We loved the convenience of having the washer, dryer, bikes and kayaks, bottled water, hair dryer, AC, cell phone, TV and flashlights for night excursions on site. Golf cart on site also available for rent. We had no trouble with internet service. The security guard patrolling the area after dark was comforting although we never had any concerns for our personal safety.

The location on the beach is perfect, with plenty of lounging, sitting areas. There is a wonderful bit of a jungle feel to this area on the beach with parrots etc... chirping in the trees. We enjoyed being "on the beach" under the covered porch while it rained. It is a public beach but it was relatively private during our 8 day stay, only a few people walked by. Several restaurants and bars within walking distance, Many more restaurants and grocers a (bumpy) bike ride away.

Another highlight of staying at Habaru house is the use of the kayaks at their other property Bocawina Bank, which is a bike ride away and directly on the Sittee River, excellent kayaking!

Anthony was helpful with the bikes. Next time I would definitely have Chef Dana prepare a meal for us. I would recommend hooking up with Charlton from Kulcha tours if you do not have a car (we were happy that we didn't rent a car) He took us to and from the airport and was available as we needed, was flexible, funny and extremely knowledgeable about Belize and all the things to do and see. Happy Go Lucky tours picked us up and dropped us off right on the beach for an awesome day charter on the water.

We stayed in the downstairs apartment 31G which was perfect for us but next time we would love to rent the upstairs and downstairs and have our kids and their families join us!

Bring your bug spray, itch cream and you will have a great stay!!

Where do you live?

A Great Vacation Property

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights at this property. It is fantastic, right on the beach; we have rented it 4 or 5 times and we will keep going back. It is close to good restaurants and to places to take you snorkeling or diving (Hamanasi does great snorkeling trips) and it is not far from parks for hiking, bird watching and river tubing. The apartment has everything you will ever need, and the local property manager is very friendly and will take care of any issue that might come up. We love this place.

Clean comfortable, central

The apartment was well equipped, comfortable , and close to the water. We had beautiful breeze, but did have a little seaweed accumulation. The men rake the beaches every day so it was not a problem.

Snorkeling was great, zip line and the falls are close.

Lovely quiet private beachfront rental near Hopkins, Belize

If you are looking for a very comfortable spot to chill by warm, shallow Belizean waters, Doug's place is definitely worth a second look. You will be about 15 seconds from the water's edge; a short walk (or less than 10 minute drive) away from over a dozen restaurants, two big grocery, beer & wine shops, numerous snorkel and dive tour operators to connect you with the reef; and, with a little additional poking around, a variety of local Belizean services - art, crafts, baked goods, local Mennonite veggies, awesome pizza, and herbal teas and medicines. Jump in the car one day and visit Dangriga on market days, or the fascinating Mayan archaeological sites that lie south, towards Punta Gorda. If you continue to follow the Southern Highway south to it's terminus in PG (as the town is called), right where the road becomes a one way (after you pass through Cattle Landing) you will find Jacqueline's Restaurant on the seas side of the road, across from the gas station. Order the fish. Back at Doug's, you will find Doug's property manager to be a wealth of information and concerned about your comfort and well being. Likewise, the security guards are great people to chat with about Belizean culture and customs as they perform all-night rounds of the beach properties in the security zone. We had one local entrepreneur come by of an evening, selling beaded trinkets but he was very respectful and disappeared instantly when we said we weren't interested. Sometimes vacationers will strolled by the place, but not often.

Habaru House is a great location from which to base all of your Belize adventures. We are about 1-2 hours away from Belize's famous cave tubing and zip-lining. About the same from Belize's best Mayan ruins. Local Birding and Wildlife tours can be arranged for privately or through the near by resorts. Habaru House is located just a short beach walk away from some of Hopkins best eateries. Best of all the beautiful Caribbean Ocean is only steps away from your back door.
