Located on 30 acres of woods with a creek flowing behind the cabin, this new log home has a campfire area for evening good times and s'mores, and close proximity to Lake Michigan, Crystal Mountain, the Platte and Betsie Rivers, the Platte Lakes and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The cabin has a lovely back porch, loft, living area, well-furnished bedrooms, laundry area, modern kitchen, televisions, and DVD player.
Phil and Ginny Lavender are the property owners. We are both retired and would love to share our new vacation home with you. Our primary home is in Lake Orion, MI. although we both were born and raised in western Michigan.
Phil Lavender purchased this cabin in 2012
Phil's mother and grandparents grew up in the area and Benzie County has always been a second home. The family cabin, built in the late '30's is located just a few hundred yards away. Building our own log cabin has always been a goal for Phil and his sister who also built a cabin nearby.
Special attractions to our place are the birds and other wildlife, the closeness of Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Little Platte Lake and the Platte River. We especially enjoy our back porch overlooking a quiet stream and woods. We also enjoy evening campfires and back-yard barbecues.
This property is so peaceful and relaxing! We will definitely be going back some time in the future! We had 4 adults and 2 kids, the cabin was perfect size!! Great location for day trips to traverse city and the Sand dunes. We also went to Glen arbor and empire. The few things that we forgot from home were already supplied in the cabin! I cannot complain about a thing!!!
My friends and I hoped for a relaxing and secluded vacation with lots of opportunities for activities and adventures. That is exactly what we found at this beautiful cabin! The photos do not do it or the surrounding grounds justice. It is a pristine cabin with all of the necessary amenities to aid in the shared meals and activities we had planned. Exploring the area around the house is an adventure itself. The few small trails on the property don't really lead to any particular destination, but they are nice little distractions for kids or friends while waiting to for food to be prepared or to have a nice morning stroll. I loved the combination of wooded area with open land that provided opportunities for adventure during the day and fantastic star gazing at night! The cabin is also very conveniently located to some of northern Michigan's most beautiful beaches and dunes. My friends and I also kayaked on the lower palette river while we were there which was breath-taking. There are several kayak rental that conveniently located that make a great adventurous addition to any trip. I could not have imagined a better location and vacation. :)
We had a great time at Timber Trails. The location was perfect for us. Rode our mountain bikes on the back trails to the beach or small lakes every day. Spent time in Frankfort, Glen Arbor and T.C, all a short drive. Actually enjoyed not having air conditioning. Cool evenings made sleeping comfortable, the screened in porch was great. The house was well appointed with both furnishings and linens.
The cabin was clean, comfortable and was very private. My wife and I stayed with our adult daughter and our two dogs. It was really a wonderful experience, and all of Sleeping Bear and local attractions were within reasonable driving distance. The only problem we had is that the washer leaked one time, and the fridge leaked the whole time. But, there was a note posted to the fridge that it would soon be replaced, so it sounds like it will be addressed soon. Overall, I would recommend this property and we would love to come back some day soon!
Very nice private location. It was a great house which accommodated 6 adults and 2 children. There is a nice big land you can explore and we found a turtle near the creek. It is a few minutes drive to Empire public beach where we did a lot of swimming and it was free. Everything that we needed was provided in the house. We did bon fire every night. I really like the enclosed porched. It was a nice vacation and a relaxing experience.
Close to Lake Michigan and Platte River. The house is like new and each room nicely decorated. Everything was provided. The views of the lake were wonderful to wake up to. The owners were nice to do business with and we would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a vacation.
We really enjoyed out stay. The cabin was lovely! Very clean and maintained. Owners promptly answered any questions we had before our arrival. We were close to the Dunes and quaint little towns. We would definitely stay here again . Would have given 5 stars except there was no air conditioning but we were lucky and had perfect weather. We had a fantastic stay....
