We built our dream vacation home to share with family and friends in 2001. As South Dakota natives, we have roots in the Black Hills (Sturgis and Rapid City), but live in eastern SD, near Mitchell. Our family (children & grandchildren) have created many memories in this cabin...and we hope you'll create your own family treasures. May your time here strengthen the bonds of friend and family, and bless you with rest and relaxation.

We love the Black Hills...as an active outdoor family, the decision to have a home on Terry Peak was an easy one. We do it all: including skiing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, sledding, fishing, golfing...the list is pretty long, actually. For all these reasons and more, we love our cabin in the Hills.
This cabin is set apart because of its unique floor plan. We saw a lot of cabins before we decided on this special property. With 3 bedrooms on separate floors (and each with its own full bathroom) we can give our guests and family the private space (and quiet) that they deserve when vacationing. We also have a private lot, with no neighbors on 3 sides. Love that!
“Our host provided an abundance of information regarding our place of stay in a pre-arrival packet which ensured a smooth stay throughout. They were responsive with any issues that came up and the location was perfect, close to both Terry Leak and Lead. ”
We went with another family for a long weekend. The cabin was perfect for our two families and kids. Bedrooms on three floors so we could split the kids up and still enjoy time together after they went to bed. Well stocked kitchen for cooking and the grocery store in Lead made it easy to enjoy our stay on the mountain. Great hot tub! There's a great little hiking trail just to the right of the cabin that leads down into the canyon. You can go quite a ways and really enjoy the woods. We also hiked on Iron creek trail which is just 15-20 minutes from the cabin. Deadwood is really close too, for other entertainment! It was really a lovely cabin and owners were really easy to work with for check-in and questions! Highly recommend. We'll be back!
The cabin was perfect. Only a few minutes to Terry Peak, WiFi, large kitchen table, plenty of room, hot tub, fireplace and very clean.
Owners were excellent to work with and responded promptly to communication. One of the highlights was coffee on the deck while watching wildlife and morning sunrises. There were many hiking trails nearby as well as a ski area within walking distance. The house was spacious with room for everybody in our group. Thanks for a lovely weekend getaway.
We stayed 5 nights, very quiet location, nice home, and cozy. Pictures represent the home, 3 floors, clean and lots of room for large families. We unloaded our ATV's and rode the local trails from the cabin. Location to Grocery Store and shopping within 5 to 10 minutes drive time. Local National Parks, 45 to 60 minutes. Owners respond quickly to all your questions or concerns.
Thank-you for a wonderful stay at "Dutch Treat Cabin"
Really enjoyed our six night stay. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The hot tub was in great shape and we got to watch two deer bed down for the night in the trees below the cabin. Highly recommend this property and the owners.
We enjoyed our week in the Dutch Treat cabin at the end of April. We chose it based on the fact that there were three distinct and independent living areas. We were a family group of Mom/Dad; daughter and son-in-law #1; and daughter, son-in-law #2 and 17 month old grandson. Each area had a bedroom (2 on upper level) and a complete bathroom. That was key to our choice and worked out very well for us. We heard almost nothing between the lower level and the main floor. The upper level opened on to the main floor so didn't provide as much separation but that was okay for the adult couples.
The cabin was tastefully decorated, clean, and well-appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed. We especially appreciated the extra shelves in the bathrooms so we had someplace to put our things. We appreciated a good supply of tissues around the house. The two gas fireplaces kept us cozy and warm. The foosball table was a bonus and there even were some toys for our baby to use. (There is a hot tub on the deck, too, but we didn't use it so can't comment.)
The cabin is located on a gravel road off the Terry Peak Ski Area above Lead, SD. The setting is absolutely gorgeous: built into a hill covered with pine and aspen trees. The ad was clear that 4-wheel drive would be necessary for winter. We just didn't know that winter would appear the last week of April! That made access in the fog over the curvy roads a little more challenging with our two cars. The access road did get cleared so we were not completely housebound. We just made it a point to be back before dark.
The owners were very easy to deal with. They answered all our questions promptly and even reimbursed us for the shovel we bought after theirs broke! I did recommend that they consider adding room darkening curtains in the bedrooms. Other than that, we were very happy with our vacation. We definitely would recommend it.
Staying in the Northern Black Hills offers a wide variety of choices for your vacation. The area boasts fabulous winter sports venues; skiing, snowmobiling, tubing. Hiking, fishing, golfing, sight seeing are just a few of summers treats. Black Hills Trail systems for power vehicles or bicycling the Michelson Trail are less than 5 miles from the front door. Relive the mining era, the days of the gunslingers, and old west cowboys and saloon girls in historic Deadwood and Lead (less than 10 miles). Gaming, fine dining and entertainment abound. Sturgis is a short 20 miles down the canyon, home of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Expand your drive to the southern Hills and see our famous Faces, Mt Rushmore; an easy scenic drive (40 miles). Find Custer State park which features Buffalo, Deer, Elk, Mountain Goats, and Donkeys. A week isn't time enough to explore this beautiful play ground.
