Sink your toes into the sand or lace up your hiking boots knowing that there's a lovely little cottage waiting for you to come home to!
Deani and Todd Higashi have been residents of the Wailua Homesteads for nearly 30 years. Both locals of this gorgeous island, they have chosen to raise their five children and two grandchildren nestled amongst the lush greenery of Kauai. Todd, a longtime surfing instructor, spends his days teaching young and old alike to learn to surf the beautiful waters, and Deani works overlooking and maintaining gorgeous properties around the Garden Island. Both love spending time with their beautiful 'ohana!
Deani Higashi purchased this cottage in 1988
Upon seeing the Wailua Homesteads, Todd and Deani fell instantly in love and knew this was the place to raise their family together. Away from the hustle and bustle of Kapa'a and other nearby towns, this upcountry farmland estate provided a safe, quiet place for their multiple children and grandchildren to play safely and enjoy true island living. The seperate cottage was built in 1990 as a longterm rental on the edge of the property and remodeled just last year, and Deani and Todd decided to turn it into a vacation rental in order to provide more opportunity for others to experience beautiful Kauai!
Quiet, clean, and off the beaten path, this cottage provides you with ample opportunity to disappear into local culture and get away from tourists! Listen to the lush sounds of local tropical birds and animals -- no traffic here! Enjoy true country living in the lap of luxury. Aloha and Mahalo!
This was great! A true luxury place ... we enjoyed it a lot. Everything (and more) was there what we needed: coffee, cereals, even a bottle of wine. And beach towels etc. Deani was a great host, 150% recommendable! :)
This is the first property I saw available in Kauai and booked it. Very happy we did. We wanted a place to stay in a residential neighborhood. We arrived around midnight and it was pouring down rain. The porch light was on along with inside lights so we found it easily. The fresh baked banana bread was very much appreciated along with bottled water and other drinks. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. We had a huge yard that was equipped with chairs and a barbecue. We were approximately 30 minutes each way from the south and north ends of Kauai. Beautiful waterfalls nearby. We loved being in Kapaa. The locals were very friendly and offered suggestions on the best restaurants in Kappa (JO2 Natural Cuisine, Sam's Ocean View, and The Art Cafe Hemingway) which were all excellent. Yes, we would book this cottage again.
Beautiful little cottage in a quiet little Hawaiian neighborhood. Lovely cut tropical flowers in every room. Cozy and private. Loved the seashell decor. Deani was very helpful with all our questions. Perfect size for two! Great location...not far from beaches, shopping, airport, restaurants...highly recommend the helicopter ride! Amazing!! JJ's Steakhouse at Anchor Cove was our favorite restaurant.
First of all, the photos of this property do not do it justice. You can't get a real sense of how lovely this property is from the photos. The cottage is set off of the road in a quiet residential area that feels private and welcoming. As soon as you open the front door to the cottage, you get a feeling of airy spaciousness and light. Even though it is small, the owners have created a beautiful feeling inside that makes it seem much bigger than it is. Everything in the cottage is decorated in tones of white and pale tan which makes it feel beachy and calm. All of the furnishings and accessories are high end and the cottage is very well stocked - the owners have thought of EVERYTHING! The kitchen is small but so well equipped that cooking is comfortable and easy. The bed is incredibly comfortable and the linens are high quality. Everything is clean and bright and lovely. The owners were wonderful to work with and very responsive to our needs. They made us feel right at home. We did not want to leave!! We will certainly be back.
This home is wonderful and charming. Note that it is small--about the size of a large hotel suite. The kitchen is small but useful; the living area is cozy; the bedroom is small but comfortable, and the bathroom has a standard bath/shower that's functional but not what you would call luxurious. The home is not new, but new paint, nice carpet, well-kept mechanicals, and a general sense of cleanliness give it a feeling of a newer home.
The area is on the rural side of suburban. There are other homes nearby, but many of them are large lots and some have horses, goats, and pigs. There are chickens everywhere, as is typical of Kauai. You will be awakened by roosters crowing, like it or not. We loved it.
We thought it was a perfect getaway for our 25th anniversary. Highly recommended!
My boyfriend and I loved this place. It was well stocked with all the goodies (beach towels, chairs, etc) we would need for a relaxing trip. The cottage is in a quiet but nice neighborhood. We loved it and would come back again
The greatest part about staying in the Wailua area is the central location. You can easily travel to the north or south or west side of the island. You may want to consider one of the fabulous Luas or ATV tours or a zip line adventure. If that seems a little too much then take a drive around the island and catch the view of waterfalls.
