About Deani Higashi
Deani and Todd Higashi have been residents of the Wailua Homesteads for nearly 30 years. Both locals of this gorgeous island, they have chosen to raise their five children and two grandchildren nestled amongst the lush greenery of Kauai. Todd, a longtime surfing instructor, spends his days teaching young and old alike to learn to surf the beautiful waters, and Deani works overlooking and maintaining gorgeous properties around the Garden Island. Both love spending time with their beautiful 'ohana!
Deani Higashi purchased this Cottage in 1988
Why Deani Higashi chose Wailua Homesteads
Upon seeing the Wailua Homesteads, Todd and Deani fell instantly in love and knew this was the place to raise their family together. Away from the hustle and bustle of Kapa'a and other nearby towns, this upcountry farmland estate provided a safe, quiet place for their multiple children and grandchildren to play safely and enjoy true island living. The seperate cottage was built in 1990 as a longterm rental on the edge of the property and remodeled just last year, and Deani and Todd decided to turn it into a vacation rental in order to provide more opportunity for others to experience beautiful Kauai!
What makes this Cottage unique

cozy, quiet, and clean
The location was convenient for exploring the island. Owners were accommodating and quickly replaced a misplaced key.
The cottage was charming and had everything we possibly needed for a fabulous Hawaiian vacation!
Deani’s Cottage is the perfect home away from home.
My granddaughter (19) and I had the time of our life in Kauai and staying at this cute little cottage was the icing on the cake. Deani thought of everything one might need in an pristine home. I can’t say enough about this little gem in the hills of Kapaa. We went all over the island to come home to a real Hawaiian residential neighborhood. We were in want of nothing and enjoying the beautiful sunrise over the hills every morning was such a plus. Quiet , romantic, safe. I can not recommend this place enough. Mahalo Deani. Hope to visit again. Lizbeth Farrell Stayed 2 weeks January 2018
Very quiet. Clean. All those smallest things make the difference ( snacks, cold water bottles, coffee filters, detergent for the washing machine etc. )
The dryer machine is a bit tricky but do not despair, it will start at some point ;)
The cottage had everything and more that u would need to vacation in Hawaii.
My only 2 complaints were - no air conditioning. It cools off at night and breezes are usually good but of no fault of the owner, the trade winds did get cut off a few days and the cottage was an oven mid day. My other complaint was that the beautiful wrap around windows in the living room were missing curtains and had only sheers. This created a fish bowl effect. We were up early and the sun went down early. I could not walk out and get my cup of coffee in my night gown. We had to keep the bathroom and bedroom door closed. There was just no avoiding that there was no privacy. There is a 2 story house right in front of u so it was a problem every day. I still gave it 4 stars because I think it is a temporary thing. There are clearly curtains in the pictures and the rods are there. I am thinking they were removed to be cleaned and it only made my trip uncomfortable. Having to get dressed before u shower etc on vacation is a pain. But everything else was perfect. It had everything u could want and need. It was centrally located and the road up was very scenic.
Cute bungalow in a good location!
We loved staying here. It was the perfect spot for our travels to the north end of the island or the far west side and everywhere in between. The house had everything we needed including a washer and dryer and a super comfortable king sized bed. We did some simple meals and snacking here and even cooked dinner one night of our 8 night stay. I would definitely book this again the next time I come to Kauai
The greatest part about staying in the Wailua area is the central location. You can easily travel to the north or south or west side of the island. You may want to consider one of the fabulous Luas or ATV tours or a zip line adventure. If that seems a little too much then take a drive around the island and catch the view of waterfalls.
