Mystic House Rental Photos and Description

Great downtown location is perfect for fine dining, sightseeing & entertaining.

Our home is located in the heart of Historic Mystic between the Mystic Museum of Art and Captain Daniel Packer Inn and is within easy walking distance to all Downtown Mystic restaurants, shops and attractions.

Our historic 2-bedroom home offers both late 19th century charm and 21st century convenience. It is fully furnished and decorated with an eclectic collection of Americana, period pieces, folk art, curiosities and other items of local interest. The doors are a bit crooked, the floors slant and the glass in most of the windows is wavy. But you will also find an electronic entry system, High-speed internet access, Wi-Fi, HDTV and state-of the art heating and A/C.

On the main floor you will enjoy a fully appointed galley kitchen equipped with a range/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and microwave oven. You will also find a coffee maker, toaster, pots, pans, dishes and cooking/eating utensils. There is generous seating in both the dining and living room areas together with remotely controlled lighting and ceiling fans.

Bedrooms and bathroom are located on the second floor where you will also find a cozy reading nook with its own great view of the Mystic River. Both bedrooms have queen size beds, a comfortable sitting area, dresser drawers with full size mirrors and plenty of closet space. Additional sleeping accommodation can also be found in the living room on a queen size sofa bed. The bathroom includes a full-size tub/shower combination and custom vanity/sink. Bedding, linens and bath towels are provided for the number of guests listed in your reservation.

There is a highchair in the kitchen, a Pack and Play crib in the rear bedroom, a crate of juvenile toys in the reading nook and plenty of books, books and more books.

The elevated front veranda offers an awesome view of the Mystic River and is a great place for people watching. There is a large rear deck with table, chairs and gas grill right at the foot of historic St. Jago Ledge if you prefer a more intimate setting.

We provide on-site parking for two vehicles or a vehicle with a modest boat trailer. There is a public boat launch less than a minute’s walk from the front door and transient dockage at Downtown Mystic Marina directly across the street .

Mystic is a unique New England village straddling the Mystic River. The portion of the village on the right (west) bank was originally known as Mystic River and is part of the town of Groton CT. The left bank was originally known as Mystic Bridge and is a part of the town of Stonington CT. Downtown Mystic River is comprised of Water Street, West Main Street, Pearl Street and Gravel Street. East Main Street, Holmes Street and Cottrell Street make up the Mystic Bridge side of the village. Walking is the best way to get around downtown and all of downtown is within easy walking distance from our home. In season, day and dinner cruises aboard the Argia sailing ship along the river and around Fishers Island Sound are sure to make your Mystic visit a most memorable experience.

Whether you prefer walking, biking, water taxi or shuttle, you are only minutes away from restaurants, shopping, multi-denominational houses of worship, Mystic Seaport Museum and Mystic Aquarium.

It is a short drive to the historic fishing village of Stonington Borough home to Capt. Palmer discoverer of Antarctica, Fort Griswold Revolutionary War battle site on the Groton Bank, Fort Trumbull that fell to an assault instigated by Benedict Arnold, Submarine Museum home of the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear powered submarine and first submarine to navigate beneath the North Pole, Bluff Point State Park, Haley Farm State park, Barn Island Wildlife Preserve, Watch Hill RI and some of the best ocean beaches on the Atlantic coast. And yes, it is but a short drive to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos.

Our property is a short 5-minute drive from I-95 Exit 89. The route through downtown from Exit 90 will take a bit longer but is probably worth the extra time for a first time visitors eager to take a driving tour through our little village.

T.F. Green International (Providence/Warwick RI) is about a 45-minute drive;

Bradley International Airport (Hartford/Springfield) is approximately a 1hr 20m drive;

Logan International (Boston) is only a 2hr drive.

If you're coming by train to New London you’ll have a 15-minute drive;

By train to Westerly RI it’s about a 25-minute drive;

If you take the train to Mystic Depot you'll have a 10-minute walk from the depot to the property but it will undoubtedly take a bit longer as you take in the sites of this historic village.

Excellent residence to stay in!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Mystic was made stress free because 26 Water St. was so comfortable. The beds were cozy, the water pressure and hot water were plentiful, the heating system was wonderful, it was totally clean and there was wifi. When we needed some extra blankets (because we prefer not to sleep with heaters on) the owners were there right away to supply them for us. Everything we needed was in the unit and it was in the heart of town. 5 stars!

Great location in Mystic

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this duplex for a short weekend trip to the Mystic area. The home is very old and has a lot of character. Bedrooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The house was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay - plenty of towels and linens and the kitchen was well stocked. The best part about this home is it's location in the heart of Mystic. Restaurants and shops are just a few steps away from the front door.

Wonderful stay in Mystic!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Mystic for 4 days and this lovely historic home was everything we expected and hoped for. A charming, comfortable, clean and well-equipped home in a very convenient location. The bedrooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, the bathroom is updated and the A/C units are very efficient. The home is located in the heart of Mystic, so expect a little noise, especially on weekends. Everything is as described in the listing and Michael and his son were very accommodating and helpful.

We visited Mystic Seaport and enjoyed it very much. Chester and Essex are beautiful quaint little towns a short drive away and Gillette Castle is interesting as well. Restaurants we visited and liked: Rise (they opened recently, still a little unorganized, but good food), Sift Bakery and Kitchen Little on Mason Island for breakfast, the Tree House at Oyster Club, Ford's Lobster in Noank (great lobster rolls and much more) and Water Street Cafe in Stonington for dinner.

If you want to experience this beautiful town in a warm and welcoming historic home, I highly recommend Michael's property.

Incredilble spot!

  • 5 of 5

Two couples, two rooms, one bathroom! It all worked. The house was fantastic! Complimented it's origination of the 1800s Extremely clean and also was a fabulous location. We enjoyed not driving and walking our night time exertions. Home away and the owners made the rental process effortless.

Lovely Old Home with Charm

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful antique home! So much charm of yesteryear with the slanted wide pine floors and narrow staircase. Old New England charm decor all around. Yet the kitchen has a disposal and dishwasher and the bathroom has been updated. Home was spotless inside and had a plethora of wonderful books! Even for the kids as well as a few toys. Lovely back deck with grill to cook on. Property overlooks the bay from the front. Things were quiet at night. Aquarium and shops etc all a few minutes away by car. We went to Misquamiget Beach which was about a half hour drive. Owner was very nice and easy to get in touch with. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our two week stay here. Great location! We rarely used the car when sightseeing in Mystic. Lots of great restaurants and pubs close to the house!

The house has everything you need to stay in and cook including a barbecue on the back porch. Bathroom was modern and updated and the AC worked great!

The only negatives were no laundry room so we had to go to Groton twice to get that done, and not enough towels for our long two week stay.

The house is old and sagging throughout, so if you are looking for a high end or ultra modern home, this won't be for you. Lots of historic charm and a cute little reading nook.
