About Lisa Carroll

We live in London, but come over to Barbados and Mango house for a couple of months each year.

Lisa Carroll purchased this villa in 2010

Why Lisa Carroll chose Holetown

We always loved the look and location of this house on many of our previous trips. Then on one trip it was for sale and it was the right time for us to be able to buy it. We love Mango house it's our home away from home

What makes this villa unique

There is a huge mango tree in the garden with delicious mangoes when in season. The monkeys visit for breakfast and feast on the mangoes which is great fun to watch. It is close to the beach and facilities of Holetown, but still has that residential quiet feel about it.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just got home from two weeks at Mango House, and wish we were still there! The house was very clean and tidy, very well equipped, and the photos shown on the ad are exactly what is there. Georgiana (the housekeeper) was very friendly. Our favorite part was sitting in the outdoor seating area; we sat out there reading for the majority of our time there, which was exactly what we needed to relax. We enjoyed seeing the monkeys (although not so much the mess they made throwing mangoes into the yard - ha, ha!) and the flowers in the yard were beautiful. It was close enough to walk to the grocery store and the little chattel shops and restaurants, and the beach is just across the street. We were glad of the laundry facilities, as we tend to pack light. We would definitely recommend Mango House, and I'm sure we'll back back there again.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a wonderful 15 days at Mango House. The house had EVERYTHING we needed. It was spotless when we arrived and was exactly as presented on Home Away. The outside patio was our favorite place to sit and relax after a day at the beach or first thing in the morning before heading out for the day. So cool to see the monkeys in the yard when they dropped by to say hello. The location of the house was perfect. It was a short walk to get groceries at Massy's, have dinner at one of the many restraraunts close by or spend the day at the beach. When we wanted to head out of Holetown to check out some of the other attractions we were only minutes away from the bus stop. We enjoyed the fish fry at Oistons one Friday night, we visited the Barbados Wildlfe Reserve and loved seeing the monkeys playing in their natural habitat, loved Mullens Beach and Paynes Bay. The pizza at Zaccios was awesome and we had a couple of dinners at Just Grilling who offered great food at a reasonable price. Lisa and Steve were wonderful to work with and even made arrangements for someone to pick us up upon arriving. We look forward to coming back to Barbados someday and will definitely want to stay in this lovely home again.

Mango House is the perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This will be our second stay in Mango House which is located within easy walking distance of the beach and many shops, bars and restaurants. The house was very comfortable with air conditioning in both bedrooms and a spacious inside living area as well as outside terrace where we ate breakfast every morning. It has everything you need for a perfect holiday and has a faster internet connection than we have in the UK. We spent most days on the beach which is literally across the road. The local bus stop is just around the corner which provides a frequent service between Bridgetown, Holetown and Speightstown. The house is fully equipped, even providing beach towels and a cocktail shaker !

We had a wonderful 2 weeks here and will be back again next year.

Fantastic location in the centre & 2 min to beach

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic location, lovely setting in its own grounds, with ample shade for those that want it, and sunshine all day long. Easy access to all the local amenities and 2 minutes to the beach and bars. They arranged a really friendly driver from the airport and back, which took the stress out of everything. Already booking up for next year !

Great first trip to Mango House in Barbados

  • 5 of 5

Mango House was perfect for our trip to Barbados; well equipped, excellent location in Holetown and very secure. We found the house and neighbourhood to be nice and quiet, and really enjoyed the fact that the house is detached with beautiful gardens - which meant it was a great, tranquil base for our first trip to the island of Barbados. The house is equipped with everything we needed for our stay, with good a/c in both bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of ‘living space' including a nice terrace and a super-fast wifi internet connection.

The house-keeper (Georgiana) and the gardener (Harry) certainly do a fine job of keeping the place in tip-top shape, and they were both also very helpful in providing us with useful ‘local knowledge' and any information we needed. Harry also was able to act as a guide and chauffeur for a trip out to see the Flower Forest and Harrison’s Cave (both within an hour’s drive, but not easily accessible by public bus). Harry was also able to collect us from the airport on arrival and also safely return us to the airport for our flight home - which meant stress-free transfers in and out, greatly appreciated as minimal stress has to be one of the main objectives of any trip to Barbados!

Mango House is ideally situated in the quiet and upmarket community of St James; 3 minutes walk to stunning, quiet beaches, and 5 minutes walk from a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops (including a supermarket) in Holetown. This was greatly appreciated as it gave us a good variety of options for eating / drinking / easy little local exploratory trips. The owners, Steve and Lisa, provided some very comprehensive information in advance of our trip and we fully concur with the recommendations they made for activities nearby (eating, drinking, watching cricket, shopping, souvenir buying, etc). We were easily able to venture out of Holetown by public bus (an experience not to be missed) down to Oistins for the famous Fish Fry there on a Friday evening (also, an experience not to be missed).

We could see, by reading reviews of Mango House from other guests both on HomeAway.com and also in the Guest Book in Mango House itself, that many of the guests return year after year - and it quickly became apparent to us why this is the case. We’re already looking forward to our next trip to Barbados and our next stay in Mango House!!

Owner's Response: We are disappointed to have our first negative review in almost 10 years letting properties in Barbados. We have three working TVs in the house which show the national TV channel 8 and we have a huge selection of DVDs for guests to watch when they are not enjoying the sunshine and the beach across the road. We have a laundry at the side of the house with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Our friendly housekeeper Georgie manages all the laundry in the house for our guests. Recently the machine wasn't working but we quickly organised the outsourcing of the laundry to a local company, so the bed sheets and towels remained fresh and clean as always. We have air-con and ceiling fans in both bedrooms for the more humid nights when it is difficult to sleep. The main sitting room is well ventilated with louvre windows which allows the Easterly breeze to sweep through the house. It isn't necessary for air-con in this room as nobody wants all the doors and windows shutting out the beautiful sunshine. (WE NOW HAVE WIFI since October 2016) We don't have WIFI, nor do we advertise this. We have been in discussion with the local provider for the past year trying to install it. We are hoping to solve this in October when we stay in Mango house as we would like to be on-line at home as well. We are lucky to have a cricket team (equivalent to a county team) who plays fortnightly on the pitch behind our house. There is something special about watching cricket being played in the Caribbean and the odd ball coming over doesn't bother too many people. This applies for the friendly local football squad as well.

A lovely house in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Mango House is perfectly situated within walking distance of Holetown centre and the beautiful beaches of the West Coast.

The house is well equipped and very comfortable with a beautiful garden.

The aircon in the bedrooms was very effective and the beds were great.

Lisa, the owner, provided us with a comprehensive information pack on local restaurants, attractions, things to do etc of which we took full advantage.

Georgiana, our friendly housekeeper, looked after us well and kept the house spick and span during our stay.

We were a party of four (Mum, Dad and two teenage boys) and I'd recommend the house to families and couples alike.

Our fortnight in paradise was truly amazing and we felt at home very quickly. A monkey (we named him Phil) came to see us every other day and he even brought his lady friend (Phyllis) to say hello.

In summary....a lovely house, lovely garden, great location!

The villa is a 5 minute walk North of Holetown, which has a shopping centre with supermarket and duty free shopping. The Limegrove shopping complex is literally around the corner. Limegrove houses many designer shops, restaurants, bars and the cinema. There are many local restaurants and bars within walking distance. Most of the restaurants and bars are situated on 1st and 2nd Street which is only a five minute walk from the house.

It is not necessary to have a car. There is an excellent bus service that runs along the main road and a bus stop just around the corner. The West Coast beaches, which are only a short walk from the villa are ideal for swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing.
