About Lisa Carroll

We live in London, but come over to Barbados and Mango house for a couple of months each year.

Lisa Carroll purchased this villa in 2010

Why Lisa Carroll chose Holetown

We always loved the look and location of this house on many of our previous trips. Then on one trip it was for sale and it was the right time for us to be able to buy it. We love Mango house it's our home away from home

What makes this villa unique

There is a huge mango tree in the garden with delicious mangoes when in season. the monkeys visit for breakfast and feast ont he mangoes. It is close to the beach and facilities of holetown, but still has that residential feel about it.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just got home from two weeks at Mango House, and wish we were still there! The house was very clean and tidy, very well equipped, and the photos shown on the ad are exactly what is there. Georgiana (the housekeeper) was very friendly. Our favorite part was sitting in the outdoor seating area; we sat out there reading for the majority of our time there, which was exactly what we needed to relax. We enjoyed seeing the monkeys (although not so much the mess they made throwing mangoes into the yard - ha, ha!) and the flowers in the yard were beautiful. It was close enough to walk to the grocery store and the little chattel shops and restaurants, and the beach is just across the street. We were glad of the laundry facilities, as we tend to pack light. We would definitely recommend Mango House, and I'm sure we'll back back there again.

Owner's Response: We are disappointed to have our first negative review in almost 10 years letting properties in Barbados. We have three working TVs in the house which show the national TV channel 8 and we have a huge selection of DVDs for guests to watch when they are not enjoying the sunshine and the beach across the road. We have a laundry at the side of the house with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Our friendly housekeeper Georgie manages all the laundry in the house for our guests. Recently the machine wasn't working but we quickly organised the outsourcing of the laundry to a local company, so the bed sheets and towels remained fresh and clean as always. We have air-con and ceiling fans in both bedrooms for the more humid nights when it is difficult to sleep. The main sitting room is well ventilated with louvre windows which allows the Easterly breeze to sweep through the house. It isn't necessary for air-con in this room as nobody wants all the doors and windows shutting out the beautiful sunshine. We don't have WIFI, nor do we advertise this. We have been in discussion with the local provider for the past year trying to install it. We are hoping to solve this in October when we stay in Mango house as we would like to be on-line at home as well. We are lucky to have a cricket team (equivalent to a county team) who plays fortnightly on the pitch behind our house. There is something special about watching cricket being played in the Caribbean and the odd ball coming over doesn't bother too many people. This applies for the friendly local football squad as well.

A lovely house in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Mango House is perfectly situated within walking distance of Holetown centre and the beautiful beaches of the West Coast.

The house is well equipped and very comfortable with a beautiful garden.

The aircon in the bedrooms was very effective and the beds were great.

Lisa, the owner, provided us with a comprehensive information pack on local restaurants, attractions, things to do etc of which we took full advantage.

Georgiana, our friendly housekeeper, looked after us well and kept the house spick and span during our stay.

We were a party of four (Mum, Dad and two teenage boys) and I'd recommend the house to families and couples alike.

Our fortnight in paradise was truly amazing and we felt at home very quickly. A monkey (we named him Phil) came to see us every other day and he even brought his lady friend (Phyllis) to say hello.

In summary....a lovely house, lovely garden, great location!

Mango House has what you need for a great holiday

  • 5 of 5

Mango House is as described regarding location and facilities. There were 4 adults in our party and the 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms were ideal for our needs which made our stay comfortable. The kitchenette was ideal for breakfast and lunch, we ate out on evenings, however it has full cooking facilities to prepare dinner. My favourite part of the house is the terrace where you can sit watch the monkeys passing through and having a mango, humming birds or just to enjoy the garden whilst having a pre-dinner drink.

Georgie, the housekeeper, and Harry, the gardener and taxi driver, made sure the property was maintained, clean and did the laundry. Importantly they are very helpful, polite, interesting and good company.

Lisa and Steve, the owners, met all our needs and customer service is good. They provided a written guide to the island (based on their experiences from transport to restaurants etc.) which is very helpful and we certainly followed up some of their recommendations; food from the chuck wagon round the corner was great.

The location was excellent for us, easy access to the local beach(es), transport, restaurants with varying price ranges, and shops in Holetown. Trents Recreation Ground at the bottom of the garden is handy and we went to see 2 T20 cricket matches.

Yes I would recommend to a friend or relative and indeed hope to return in the future. We had a fantastic holiday.

Owner's Response: We have a great team of staff with Georgie and Harry and aim for Mango House to be a home away from home with a tropical twist. It's lovely sitting in the garden listening to the cricket matches and only a stroll around the corner if you want to watch the game.

mango house

  • 5 of 5

our stay at mango house was relaxing and the house was fully equipped for a self catering holiday and was very clean and kept clean by the wonderful housekeeper who was really friendly.

Thank you Georgie. We had visits from monkeys mongoose and various birds all very entertaining. Did a bit of sunbathing on the sun loungers in the garden then cooled off in the outside shower. The garden was lovely and private. Harry collected us from the airport was also very friendly and punctual both picking us up at the airport and taking us back for our return flight .

hopefully one day we will be back again

Fantastic home in the best location.

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from an amazing stay at this beautiful house and could not have been happier.

The location (a 2 minute walk to the beach, 5 minutes to supermarket and within spitting distance of countless bars, restaurants and (most importantly) Rum Shacks!!) is perfect. Just on the northern side of the Holetown shopping district it's got everything nearby but is "local" enough to feel like you're seeing a bit of the real Barbados as opposed to the experience the sanitised/soulless resorts offer.

The house itself is perfect for a family. I stayed with my wife, daughter and mother-in-law (thus my familiarity with the local Rum Shacks) and it suited us to a tee. Small but serviceable kitchen with a full sized oven, fridge etc, beautiful outdoor dining area and resident monkey in the Mango tree to entertain my little 2 year old. The appearance of the occasional Mongoose added the perfect amount of rodent without having to put up with rats, which was nice;-)

My only complaint with the wildlife was a hummingbird crapped on my floral shirt after mistaking it for a Hibiscus bush. Still it was a Hummingbird so not a large pile by any means.

With plenty of room in the backyard for BBQs (and a BBQ onsite) we really felt like we had a home which you just can't get staying in a resort. I'd have no worries recommending Mango House to anyone looking for a great base to explore the island or just a relaxing place to put your feet up and sip rum for a week or two. Or both.....

A beautiful home in paradise

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent stay and everything was perfect. Lisa makes the booking process very easy and pain free. Information before and during our stay was excellent and accurate both about the property itself and also the surrounding area and facilities. The house was very spacious with a lovely outdoor covered area and garden. Facilities were excellent at the property and made self catering very easy. The housekeeper kept the property spotless and was very helpful with local information. The surrounding area included a well stocked supermarket, designer outlet, numerous restaurantes ranging from beach shack to fine dining. I struggle to think of anything that could be improved. Look forward to returning soon.

The villa is a 5 minute walk North of Holetown, which has a shopping centre with supermarket and duty free shopping. The Limegrove shopping complex is literally around the corner. Limegrove houses many designer shops, restaurants and the cinema. There are many local restaurants and bars within walking distance. Most of the restaurants and bars are situated on 1st and 2nd Street which is only a five minute walk from the house.

It is not necessary to have a car. There is an excellent bus service that runs along the main road and a bus stop just around the corner. The West Coast beaches, which are only a short walk from the villa are ideal for swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing.
