About the property

Complete Remodel 5 Bedrooms 3 Full Bath 7 Real Beds (sleeps 11)

Come stay at our charming, spacious and fully remodeled home in an adorable neighborhood of Portland. This is a home away from home! Everything is brand new as the house was redone from the studs up. The Metzger/Multnomah Village neighborhood is minutes from downtown Portland, the Portland Zoo, Japanese and Rose Gardens, blocks from Washington Square Mall and the Red Eagle Golf Course, one exit from Lake Oswego and has off street parking. Being only 6 blocks from I-5 makes it extremely convenient for any activity that brings you to Oregon: our world renowned wine country, skiing at Mt. Hood, a day at the coast, an Oregon Duck game in Eugene, cycling or business. This location is our personal favorite and we have owned several homes in the neighborhood because it is convenient to everything, quaint, quiet and well established. The home is walking distance to the bus line, 5 blocks from Metzger Park, 1 mile from the Garden Home Rec Center which has summer camp for kids, classes for all ages, sports activities year round and much more. The Jewish Community center and Multnomah Village are 3.5 miles away. Portland Community College Sylvania campus is 2 miles away. You will have the entire home to live in during your stay. The home is a large 2200 feet with 5 bedrooms (7 beds), 3 full baths on a 1/2 acre with beautiful trees and a lovely sunset deck. There are 5 bedrooms, 2 upstairs and 3 downstairs. The upstairs master has a queen bed with a private bath and large walk in closet. The 2nd upstairs bedroom has 2 twin beds and a full bath off the hall. Downstairs has 1 bedroom with a queen bed, a 2nd room with a full bed, and a 3rd room with bunk beds. There is a spacious full bath downstairs. All 3 baths have shower and tub are stocked with soap, lotion, hair products, hair dryer. All of the linens are new and there are plenty of blankets and pillows and cozy comforters. Upstairs comfortably sleeps 4 and downstairs 6. All rooms have true mattresses; there are no futons or air mattresses. This is a very family friendly home as the downstairs offers a spacious living/ rec room and there's lots of yard to play in and explore. (Please note - - - due to insurance restrictions we absolutely do not allow events! Maximum people day or night is 12. Many people believe that if they rent this great, large home that they can throw an event but we do not allow events and we do live in the neighborhood!) If you choose to cook you have a fully utensiled gourmet kitchen including oil, spices, coffee pot. There's a bread maker if you are so inclined! There is a phenomenal grocery store walking distance 4 blocks away for any food items you might need. There are lots of local pubs and eateries within a mile of the house and a guide to Portland's central restaurants is provided.

Kara and I are avid cyclists and can provide referrals to bike rental shops and great cycling destinations. We are not on site but close by if you need us. We love this house and our city and are excited to share both with you. Kara has decorated the house with treasures for all to enjoy. There are many original pieces of art, vintage touches and charming antiques but no lack of a modern feel!

Come and enjoy!

Note: The main floor can be accessed without stairs. The kitchen, living room, deck, 2 full baths and 2 bedrooms are on the main floor. Three bedrooms and a full bath is downstairs. This is a no pets, no shoes and non smoking home.

About James

I grew up in the area and Kara emigrated from California in the 90s. We live in SW Portland close by and our office is not too far off in Lake Oswego. Kara is a Family Medicine doctor in private practice and I help run her very busy clinic. She has been practicing in the community for over 14 years and I have been a mortgage broker for 18 years. I continue to do mortgages for longtime clients, family and friends. We have 2 teenage boys, cats, chickens and fish. We race bicycles, cross train in any way we can including kayaking, skiing, riking (a combo run/hike sport we created because hiking was just too slow much to the chagrin of our kids!). Kara is a photographer and also paints, makes jewelry and can't wait to get a pottery wheel someday. She supports local artists any way she can and is an avid collector of modern and vintage artwork. I am a woodworker, lather and burgeoning chef. We are avid herb and vegetable gardeners, love food, great wine, music and always look forward to helping guests with restaurant selections. We know the region well and have our favorite excursions and are available for guidance! We have used VRBO extensively for our travels in the US and all over Europe and hope our experiences help make yours a wonderful one! We are excited to share this lovely home with you! James

James purchased this house in 2013

Why James chose Tigard

We are hoping to share our love of the Northwest and make some new friends by opening our Oak Street home. We purchased the home for Kara's mother but cold feet have kept Mom in California for now. We love the house too much to sell! It has recently been remodeled from the studs out and is perfect for a romantic getaway or a family road trip with a big crew. If you have a wedding in the area, this is a great place for multiple generations to stay, feel part of a large family and celebrate together!

What makes this house unique

Easy access to the two main freeways makes this the perfect location for your visit and sight seeing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

James and Kara were the perfect hosts for our short trip to Portland. Their home is beautiful and well equipped, to make any stay an enjoyable one. We were particularly impressed with the extra details they went to, to ensure our children were "at home". The home is so close to everything (shops, parks and all the main points of interest in Portland), yet provides a quiet location. James met us as we arrived and provided us with maps and suggestions and we were so grateful. We will be definitely coming back to stay in Summer!!!!

You can park an RV in the long driveway if necessary. We can help you arrange a visit to a farmers market with a licensed dietician and have a professional chef prepare a meal for your group that evening! Portland is known for bike-friendliness and small batch breweries, why not try both! Local legend Todd Roll will provide bikes and a group leader to ride from pub to pub sampling micro-brews via bike! The names of several licensed massage therapist making house calls are also available.

Beautiful and roomy

  • 5 of 5

A group of 10 friends traveled to Portland for a Prayer Summit and stayed at this lovely location. The house is beautiful, immaculate and is well stocked for a comfortable stay. The house is designed well and is roomy. We were not on top of one another and there is also plenty of room for us to all be together. James is warm and friendly and very available. The beds are comfortable and there are plenty of bathrooms. That was a bonus. We would happily stay here again as it was almost perfect.

Charming, Clean and Easily Accessible

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic experience for my first time to Portland with a party of 11 adults. The description of the house was completely on point along with it being extremely clean and maintained when we arrived including thoroughly instructions on the ins and outs of the house. The owner was so knowledgeable of the city, wine country, casual to fine dining around the city. We ended up having perfect weather, but offered things to do weather permitting. I highly recommend this house for a family or friends get together. Some of our favorite highlights included: Pedal Bike Tours - Ethan was an awesome tour guide. Wine Country access is soooo easy from this location. We thoroughly enjoyed Alexana, Lange, and Argyle. Departure Restaurant at the Nines Hotel and Tastebuds are both a must experience along with Andina. Multnomah Falls is an easy drive and definitely spectacular views and hiking. James has the warmest hospitality and exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to visit again!

Very clean. Lots of amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, etc. Lots of toilet paper. And lots of towels! Good instructions on house usage. Only one complaint, there was no hot water in the sink in the bathroom off the upstairs hall. We let that faucet run far longer than our California drought ravaged souls were comfortable with, and still no hot water. All other sinks were fine and shower was fine.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

We will definitely recommend this house and plan to stay there again.

wedding in Portland

  • 5 of 5

The house was fabulous! it's in perfect condition, tastefully decorated, and clean as an operating room! It was well-stocked with all of the items that we needed - and a store was nearby for anything else. This house was a perfect place for multiple families to rendezvous for an event - the open floor plan lends itself to casual mixing. Next time we'll try out the barbecue :). The location was perfect for us - midway between Portland and our friends further south. With quick access to I5, we didn't have any problem getting out to see the sights in the Portland area. By the way - go see Mt Hood - awesome! If you have a group going to Portland - this is place to be.
