Overview

About the property

Heated Private Pool! Close-in Kailua-Kona! Sunsets! Designer Decorated! WiFi!

This luxury home has direct ocean views from the living room, the dining room, the kitchen and the master bedroom! You can hear the surf from your bed at night!

This is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath private luxury home with a panoramic (sunset) view of the Ocean. This is not an 'ohana' (or in-law suite) associated with another house as some of them are. This is a separate house on it's own separate lot. This house has a private solar-heated pool…a hot tub with an ocean view…a printer, WiFi, and is a 5 minute drive to the main shopping and restaurant district in town and also to the closest beaches. The house has an extensive video collection of 'favorite' DVD movies (including children's movies), and has some toys, a high chair and Graco Pac n Play for children. It has most appliances you could want. The back of this house overlooks the ocean and is very private. The front overlooks the mountains.

We call this house the 'Crystal House' because of the crystals found in the foyer and scattered around the yard.

The house is in Kailua-Kona about 2 miles south of the main part of town with many restaurants and shops. Kailua-Kona is the main tourist spot on The Big Island. It is on the sunny side of the island (as opposed to Hilo which is on the rainy side). It is 80-85 degrees and sunny almost every day of the year in Kona. Kailua-Kona is on the coastline of the island. The Big Island is a magical place to visit. It's easier to understand this magic once you come, since a lot of this has to do with the 'feeling' many people get while on the island.

Dream Location

  • 5 of 5

I'm a tough critic, but I'm happy to say that this home lives up to its billing. Though the pictures accurately describe what you will find when you get here, they can't begin to describe the beauty and fragrance of the flowers, the pleasant sound of the exotic birds and wind chimes, or the touch of balmy breezes as you relax by the pool. My family of five enjoyed the help and hospitality of our host, the convenient location, the space, the peace, and the privacy. We would definitely stay here again!

The house was a perfect fit. Beautiful, spacious. Close to everything. Truly enjoyed it

  • 5 of 5

We got there a little early and it had just been finished cleaned. So we're able to get in and unpack and relax a bit. The house was everything the advertised. Would highly recommend it to all. Thanks.

Beautiful home in Kona close to great activities and beaches

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Crystal House with great views of the ocean, hot tub and pool. The house is in a great spot in Kona where you are close to many activities. Laurie provided a helpful packet of info which helped us plan ahead for swimming with the dolphins and going to a luau. Make sure to look up Roberta Goodman for swimming with wild dolphins. She was amazing and held my son's (6 years old) hand and led him through pods of dolphins for an unforgettable experience. We also enjoyed the luau at Royal Kona resort, which is close to the house. They did a wonderful job with presenting the music, culture and food while watching the sun set behind them.

Great central Kona location and comfortable home!

  • 5 of 5

The Crystal House is perfectly set up for a home away from home in Kona. The outdoor living space extends the overall square footage of this house and provides a beautiful and secluded retreat. We loved the set up of the house and the view. The wonderful information that you receive before your stay is incredible and very helpful for getting acquainted to the area and the top things to do across the entire island. Thanks Laurie for all your efforts toward making your guests comfortable.

Amazing Hawaiian Home

  • 5 of 5

This is the most beautiful home I have ever rented. I have been renting houses from VRBO for over 15 years and this one was the best one. It is beautiful from the minute you pull in the driveway. It is well furnished and has the most gorgeous ocean view. The sun sets right in front of the solar heated pool. It is so nice to come home from a day of sightseeing to a relaxing swim in the pool. I also enjoyed the hot tub each evening. That was a real plus. The beds were very comfortable. There wasn't anything that we needed , it was all there in the house. We hated leaving at the end of 2 weeks. It was a perfect vacation house for the 5 of us. Thank you Laurie for sharing your lovely home with us. Mahalo.

Great house, great view

  • 4 of 5

Our experience at the Crystal House was about as good as it can get. From the moment we made our reservation Laurie (the owner) communicated with us via email providing information on the house, as well as information on sightseeing, shopping and other activities.

The house is located in a quiet neighborhood and has a spectacular view of the ocean including some white water/beach views. The pool is solar heated and was very comfortable and well maintained.

Our group of two couples spent most of our time at the house sitting at the spacious table on the covered patio just outside the kitchen, or floating in the pool. Only one couple enjoyed sitting in the sun, which was fortuitous, since there are only two chaise lounges by the pool (that's as close to a negative comment that we could make) . We also ate meals outside on those occasions we didn't go out to eat.

All three bedrooms have individual air conditioning units, which was a necessity for some in our party to sleep well. I imagine that in the summer when temperatures are noticeably hotter, that the AC is really needed. The units were just able to get the bedrooms down to a comfortable temperature. The main living area was pretty much always comfortable with the breeze off the ocean and the ceiling fans.

There were adequate pots, pans and dishes for us. Laurie provided two new cutting boards within 24 hours of us emailing her that there weren't any in the house. We found the existing two cutting boards within 20 minutes of the arrival of the new boards, and her gracious remark was 'you can never have too many cutting boards.'

Unlike many rentals which clear out the kitchen between guests, Laurie has smartly left the spices and a couple of refrigerated items (e.g., butter) remain from guest to guest. This helped fantastically in easing the arrival process and we were glad to contribute a few items that we used for the benefit of future guests.

If we return to Kona in the future we would definitely try to stay at the Crystal house again. Thanks Laurie for helping make our Hawaii vacation great.

Getting around the Big Island is very simple since there is (pretty much) one highway going around the whole island. Check out the map of the island included in our photos. It's an excellent idea to get the book 'Hawaii The Big Island Revealed' before your visit.

SIMPLE BIG ISLAND VACATION PLAN OF MUST DO's: (see more details below)

1. Have Breakfast and coffee at Lava Java downtown 75-5799 Alii Drive- 327-2161 You may want to start every morning this way... Our # 1 'MUST DO'.

2. Lunch at The Coffee Shack. The view is 'wow'. (11 miles south on highway 11. (808) 328-9555)

3. Go to Huggo's for a fantastic dinner and view of the ocean followed by Huggo's on the Rocks (next door). downtown Kailua-Kona. . 808 329-1493. Needs reservation for Huggo's. Alii Drive, right of Royal Kona Resort.

4. Have Drinks at The Kona Inn- downtown on the water- Go for the view and the Mai Tai's. 75-5744 Alii Dr, 329-4010

5. Go to Hawi and eat at the Bamboo Restaurant for a very Hawaiian experience. Shop Hawi then go to Polulu Point (see more below).

6. Go Zip-Lining near Hawi!

7. Do the Sea Quest snorkeling and Cave trip boat tour with Captain Liam (2 miles from the house).

8. Drive to Volcano National Park (dont miss the Chain of Craters Road) and have lunch at Cafe Ono.

9. Drive to Hilo and see the Botanical Gardens, see Akaka Falls and eat at the 50's restaurant on the way.

10. Have a Lava Flow and snorkel at Kahalu'u Beach (2 miles away from the house, best snorkeling on island) and/or spend a day at (the more lush beach) Hapuna Beach, perhaps have lunch at the price Hotel next door- (45 minutes north).

11. Stroll through the Kona Outdoor Market open Wednesdays through Sundays. Downtown Kona next to St Michael's Church.

12. Go to a luau the Royal Kona Luau (2 miles from the house).

13. Check out some traditional Hawaiian take-out food to keep at the house. Kailua Pork gotten at the Kava Bar next to Wasabi's downtown and the 'Dynamite Poke' from Da Poke Shack on a mile away. Also Killer Taco's is a legend in Kona for take out tacos and the famous 'Barnyard Burrito'.

14. Consider para-sailing and Jet-skiing in close by downtown Kailua-Kona.

See below for much much more!

BEST BOOK TO GET: 'Hawaii The Big Island Revealed' (the blue book)- hands down.

The house offers a solar heated pool, an outdoor hot tub plus a jacuzzi in the master bath, an extensive video collection, and some toys.

We have boogie boards, surf boards, towels, beach chairs, coolers etc etc. Feel free to use anything.

A fantastic WALKING PATH is just up the street- (the Walua trail is 3 blocks up the hill to the right). This is a historic trail where donkeys used to deliver goods to this town. It is a fairly flat trail (hard to find in a hilly town like Kailua-Kona) and if you look you'll see mile markers, so you will know how long you've walked.

The house is close to one of the best snorkeling beaches on the island (Kahalu'u Beach Park), one of the best surfing spots (Lyman's Beach which you can see from the master bedroom), 'Magic' Sands Beach (the beach is there... then it's 'not' there!) and Keauhou Bay (that offers many water activities- we love Sea Quest fast boat snorkeling and cave tours 329-7238 and dolphin excurions (see below for much more). In downtown Kona / Alii Drive you can sign up for parasailing, kayaking and jet-skiing.

.....Ask Lauri for the complete list of activities and restaurants- also included in our guest book in the house!
