About Kevin Vaughn

I am a Chattanooga native and a degreed Interior Designer, having studied at the University of Tennessee of Chattanooga. I work with clients all over the southeast and east coast, and divide my time between Chattanooga and Nashville. I am proud to open up my home for visitors who wish to experience the scenic city, it's amazing attractions, culture, and rich history...while enjoying all the comforts of home during their visit.

Kevin Vaughn purchased this house in 2000

Why Kevin Vaughn chose Chattanooga

Being a Chattanooga native, I have always been infatuated with the historic Missionary Ridge area. I was drawn to this home and fell in love with it from the moment I walked thru the door for the first time. The home has hosted many lavish parties and seen it's fair share of house guests whom always comment on it's quaint charm and amazing views...especially the night time view and holiday firework displays.

What makes this house unique

Aside from the view, I was drawn to the character of the woodwork, heart pine mantel, blown glass windows, crystal door knobs, and hardwood floors that had served occupants for many years, and had remained intact...even the hitching pin at the street still remains embedded in the rumble stone wall. The home has been lovingly and thoughtfully restored over the past 10 years, and updated to include many modern amenities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A beautiful home. Several ideas I want to use in my own home. So much more I admired.

Awesome stay!

  • 5 of 5

Some girls from my rowing team stayed here during the Head of the Hooch. It was PERFECT! We had the best time, the accommodations were fantastic. We would definitely stay here again. The driveway was intense, but we were warned--and we really appreciated the warning. The steps were no problem.

This house is beautiful!

  • 4 of 5

Both the inside and the outside or the house is beautiful. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed and the house was large enough to accommodate our 15 person get together. Unfortunately we really could not use the outdoor space because the highway noise is so overwhelming.

The only problem we had was the driveway. You cannot drive up it! There is parking below and steps that are convenient.

Ironman trip

  • 5 of 5

The house just as it was described to be. We were in town for the Ironman event. It was close to our venue which was Ross Landing. The directions for before, during, and after were excellent. We virtually had no problems except the very steep driveway, but we were warned about that! It was clean, organized, wonderful views of downtown. I couldn't have asked for a better VRBO. Thanks Kevin.

Nicely remodeled cottage with old charm

  • 3 of 5

Overall my family liked the cottage. It was nice and clean, and we were able to stretch out with our 4 kids when we had some downtime. We were close to all the sites. We went to all the attractions nearby on Lookout Mountain, and also drove to the Lost Sea. Something my teenage daughter really wanted to do. Overall we had a nice vacation, as nice as can be traveling with 4 kids ages ranging from 16 to 2. Here are a couple things we did not like. First when I walked into the house it had a smell none of my family liked. Something similar to a cheap perfume. I kept looking for the source, but never did find it. I prefer a clean, fresh scent in a house. But the thing which most concerned us was the overall location. Every night we heard loud gun shot like noises. Were they gunshots??? We don't know. But then followed by sirens, a lot of sirens. This made a family from Northern MI, out in the country, very nervous. The house is equipped with an alarm system, and you bet we set it every night! When we first arrived we needed to make a quick stop to a grocery store. We pulled into the closest one, and also felt just slightly uneasy. It was getting dark when we left, and we were happy to leave. I will be honest and say, I would not rent this property again due to location. Another problem I had was no friendly communication with the owner. Sure I got the necessary emails, with instructions on how to enter the house and leave the house. But nothing personal at all. I found this a little disconcerting. Overall we had a great stay in Chattanooga. The sights were beautiful and we made some great memories!! If you decide to stay here, you must eat at Sugar's BBQ, right down the road. If you love BBQ that is. It's ribs and brisket are amazing!!!

Owner's Response: This is considered an "in-town" property situated on one of Chattanooga's most historically significant civil war sites. However one can expect in-town noises being within 2 miles of the regions 3 major medical centers and 24-hour emergency rooms. There was a 5 day baseball tournament downtown during this stay which had a firework display at the stadium downtown every evening around 9pm.

A week long spring break vacation and the house met all our needs. The location near all major attractions is a great plus. We loved our stay.

There is someplace like home

  • 5 of 5

The saying is, "There's no place like home." Well there is, and this lovely home is it. It was even better than the photos of it as they could not convey the warmth and charm of the property. Starting with having coffee overlooking the peaceful garden, listening to the early morning birds and splashing fountain to sitting on the front porch watching the sun go down over the mountains, this was perfect. From our first contact to our last, the owner was like an old friend. The house was spotless, but even better, it was totally inviting. The kitchen was well supplied and the beds were every version of comfortable. It was close enough to downtown that we were there in less than 10 minutes yet far enough away to let us end our days feeling like we were in the country. We took full advantage of the walkability of Chattanooga's downtown - the arts district, the pedestrian bridge over the Tennessee River, the historic Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Sugar's bar-b-que and the art museum. The Incline Railroad was not to be missed and the National Park at the top of Lookout Mountain as well as the neighborhood were delightful to explore. The real surprise of the trip was Rock City and worth every penny of the entrance fee (except for having to walk through the kitchy gift store as part of the path). My friends and I would recommend this home to anyone - and already have. Kevin is a wonderful host.
