About John Stewart
After spending many vacations in Belize we decided to purchase a home. Belize is a magical country. With only 300,000 people, it is remote and unspoiled. The beauty of the country can not be described. You have to visit to appreciate all it has to offer.
John Stewart purchased this Villa in 2013
Why John Stewart chose Hopkins
It is private and secure, yet close to shopping, restaurants and attractions. We are the only house occupied in the 24/7 secure gated community. You have complete privacy on your own Caribbean beach.
What makes this Villa unique
We think the Jabiru Nest is the best place to stay in all of Belize.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Property was just as advertised. Hopkins is a great place to spend some time. The house was secure. Missed the dog though
Amazing place. Amazing Hosts!
What a special part of the world. We had a great time exploring the country. The hosts were very helpful in planing our adventures and giving us great advise on how to enjoy the country. Belize is not for everyone, but for us it was perfect. It was an amazing adventure! The dirt roads did not faze us one bit. The driving directions were perfect. The internet was slow just like we were told in advance and we hardly used it. We were too busy enjoying the outdoors. The house was clean and comfortable. We'll be back to stay in this beautiful home again soon.
Very accomodating and stress reliever
Our two family’s of four enjoyed our stay in Hopkins. The backyard pier and ocean front view was fantastic and we even caught fish in the evening. John was very accomodating to our needs for places of interest, massage, and local chef. We really enjoyed splinters (dog)evening visits and the kids loved him. The only thing we would recommend is more cooking pots and pans with a better equipped kitchen to cook evening meals.
Thank you for your kind review. We had a great time hosting you. We're glad we got to see you every day of your visit. We had no idea you needed more pots for your clan. Next time just ask and we'll be glad to accommodate you.
We booked this house for a family vacation. The house and property were beautiful and worked well for our group of nine. The pier is amazing to watch the ocean and stars. The town of Hopkins was enchanting, we had some great meals and fun listening to music in town. John made sure we had great directions from Belize City as it is a 2.5 hour drive at least. Make sure to bring all items you will require, including paper products and basics like laundry detergent.
Nice house, remote location
This house and it's view was lovely, but it was a full 3 hour drive from Belize City. The back yard and ocean view are just as pictured and are beautiful and tranquil. We rented cars and bought groceries on our way out of the San Pedro Airport, which was a good plan, since groceries were expensive in town. Hopkins is a quiet little town, but had several nice restaurants. We went on a Cave Tour at Ian Anderson's Cave Branch, which was wonderful- highly recommended! (but 1.5 hour drive from the house) We played in the ocean, which was shallow enough for my young children (ages 2 and 4) to wade. Just be sure to bring your water shoes as the sand is rocky and the ocean full of sea grass. Just be aware that there was only hand and dish soap and toilet paper provided by the owners. There was no paper towels or laundry detergent (though there was a washer/dyer), no coffee/sugar. You would need to buy all these things prior. We spent only 3 days here before moving to a house in Ambergris Caye. I'm sure we could have done snorkeling tours from Hopkins, but it would have been lots of traveling. In all, I really liked this house- it was just too far from our arrival in Belize City and other activities. This would be a house better suited for people who want a calm, relaxed vacation in a quiet Belizian town, and who enjoy driving through beautiful country.
Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed our villa on your very first visit to Belize ever. Just a couple of points of clarification that were not quite accurate. I understand someone else in your party booked your reservation and did not pass along all the details to you that were discussed prior to arrival.
1. Hopkins is the closest resort village on the mainland to Belize City. It is a stunning 3 hour drive through the Mayan mountains and rain forest. That is disclosed prior to all our guests arrival and easy to see on any road map of Belize.
2. We have two large grocery stores in the village open 7 am to 9 pm every day. They have the same prices and sometimes even less expensive then Belize City stores. They have everything you would ever need.
3. A starter kit of basic paper goods is provided to you including paper towels. They were next to the refrigerator on a dispenser. That is discoled in our vrbo property description.
4. We do not provide laundry detergent as past guests stated they are allergic to certain brands. All of this is disclosed in the property description. We were quite surprised that 3 hours after arriving from the USA you needed laundry detergent.
5. Coffee and sugar was provided. It was stored in your refrigerator to keep it fresh.
6. Our villa is 1/2 mile from the marina where all the guides do snorkel tours. It is a 20 minute boat ride from the marina to the reef to snorkel. You can't get any closer to the reef to snorkel on the mainland than Hopkins.
Thank you for staying at our villa. I know being in a rural setting was a big challenge. compared to your normal city life. You did very well adapting after learning we are a simple small village with no Walmart's, or Starbucks. Hopefully you'll be better prepared for Belize life should you decide to come to Belize again. All the best.
Thank you for a great time!
We came late at night due to our plane being delayed. John stayed up to make sure he greeted us when we arrived. The villa is huge! It was very clean and easy to find everything. Hopkins is a small fishing village. This house is about 2 miles out of town on the Caribbean Sea. It is close to all the shops and restaurants, but allowed us the privacy we were looking for. Johns wife and little dog Splinter made us feel right at home. Hope to see you next year!
