We are a family of five who loves to be on the water, travel and explore new places. We have stayed in many VRBO places over the years and learned what we liked - and didn't - from rentals by other owners. We strive to make our house a home for others too, because we enjoy it so much ourselves!
Diana Heyd purchased this house in 2010
Our whole family has loved traveling to Northern Michigan for over a decade. We so loved it that we decided to buy a home away from home to enjoy and share. We love Traverse City that has so much to do, year round, including the National Cherry Festival and Traverse City Film Festival. In the wider area, our favorite place to visit is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to climb the Dunes, but also enjoy being close to the Lake Michigan towns of Leland, Charlevoix, Petoskey etc. We never run out of things to do while we are there, and cannot wait to return whenever we leave.
Upon deciding to head Up North, we looked for years for the perfect property. When we drove down the secluded lane to this house and saw the peaceful lake views and home that felt just right - we knew! We love the lake and its friendly vibe, with a nice mix of year round and visiting residents. This is not a partying kind of lake, but one perfect for families who love all sorts of water and winter sports. The best feature of the home is the view of the lake! It is so peaceful, the stress just slips away as soon as we get there. The front of the house is lined with windows, so this view - including gorgeous summer sunsets and stars - can be seen inside and out. We just love this spot and hope you will too.
My family and I enjoyed a great week at the Hideaway House on Spider Lake. Our group consisted of four sets of adults and 5 grandkids, ages 1-4. We found the house to be very clean and accurately depicted by the pictures. The highlights were the lake front and nice sandy beach right out the front door. The "L" shaped dock made a nice swimming area for the little ones and the water was clear and warm. The large area of windows facing the lake made it easy to watch the action and was very pleasant when having dinner or morning coffee. The area of the lake was nice and quiet and visited by a family of loons almost daily. We caught lots of fish with many "first fish caught" pictures being taken. Even caught some decent size bass and pike right off the dock in the mornings or evenings. We made use of the kayaks a few times but were mostly happy to just relax and watch the water and enjoy some family time. The house had plenty of bathrooms and the bedrooms were decent sized. Only issue was that it was hot for part of the week and the house doesn’t have AC. Most of the bedrooms had ceiling fans but luckily we had brought some bigger room fans and they worked nicely. The house had lots of windows so when a breeze did blow, it was very pleasant. The large main floor kitchen/dining room/ living room was a perfect gathering place for lunches, dinners and hanging out. A nice surprise was all the toys available for the kids. Plenty to do for everyone. We really enjoyed the fire pit area and had a fire every night. Even visited by a bald eagle one evening. Great sunsets every night. Overall, one of the best houses we've rented. Short drive to Traverse City (10 minutes) but the lake was so pleasant we only went into town once. If you're looking for relaxation, nice beach and great sunsets and comfortable house, this house would fit the bill nicely.
We had a wonderful time during our stay at the Hideaway. The house is right on Spider Lake and beautiful. The house is fully stocked with everything you would need for your stay. My family of 7 had plenty of room to spread out when needed. We took the included kayaks out almost everyday and also rented a pontoon boat and water trampoline that we were able to dock right at the house for the week.
The owner was extremely easy to work with and very friendly. The process from start to finish went very smoothly.
The Traverse City area is beautiful with many options of things to do. We spent most of our time on the lake, but also went to the nearby wineries and restaurants. And took in a day trip to Glen Arbor and the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
In the end, it was a wonderful trip and we will definitely return to the Hideaway again.
The home was perfect for our family vacation. My husband and I along with our 4 daughters with 3 spouses enjoyed a wonderful week at the Spider Lake home. The dock was great for the boat we brought. The patio was great with the grill and patio table and chairs. The beds were all very comfortable but the hide-a-bed was a little thin. The open concept kitchen and dining area was awesome for our large group of nine. The view out the bay window toward the lake was great. The only downside was the area between the house and water was on an incline and was somewhat limited. Parking was great for our three vehicles. The fishing was great early in the a.m. and late in the evening. The house was within one hour of many great attractions.
We had a great time and your house was amazing as always. We all think this is the best place on the lake because we love the layout of the house, modern kitchen and furnishings, and the view. The included kayaks are a real plus, and we rented a boat so the kids could tube and ski. We will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful time this weekend. The house was in excellent condition, the kitchen had everything we needed and the location was exactly what we needed. The owners are very nice and helpful.
We enjoyed being in this spacious home on the tranquil lake. The house allows for multiple family dwelling by the various settings of the rooms. Our grandchildren enjoyed the playroom with the toys and the tv was situated in there as well. The kayaks were fun and the house is very well equipped. The dining/living room was great for all our meals and just a gathering place with those wonderful windows to view the lake, sunsets and peaceful scenery. We could travel to the store, Traverse City and golf courses without being in our car a long time. Just a fun week!
