About Rafael Martinez
My wife and I love to travel. We know how important it is to stay in a comfortable, beautiful place that invites relaxation and enjoyment. That is why we have selected properties in the best locations in San Juan and prepared them so that you have a wonderful time in Puerto Rico, “La Isla Estrella”.
Rafael Martinez purchased this House in 1982
Why Rafael Martinez chose Old San Juan
This was or house until seven months ago when we decided to rent it to tourists visiting Puerto Rico. It is a premiere historic Spanish colonial home (over 250 years old) in the most prestigious address in Old San Juan, a Unesco World Heritage city. Old San Juan has the air of a European city with majestic Spanish forts, a vibrant cultural life with music on the plazas, jazz piano bars, and venues for flamenco and salsa dancing, Visit the many museums, large art galleries, as well as artists’ cubbyholes. Enjoy gourmet Puerto Rican and world class international dining. There is an opportunity for a wonderful picture everywhere.
What makes this House unique
The house has been fully remodeled and has all the conveniences of modern living while maintaining the air of a Colonial home. It is very close to all major sights, shopping and other venues, yet it is on a quiet street.

Our trip to the old city
My family and I enjoyed very much our stay in this property. We wished we had stayed longer. We sincerely hope to come back soon!
PS We hope the water problem is not serious.
Newly renovated home in Old San Juan, close to all the actions but away from all the noises
Great location, next to the Governor's mansion (free security & quiet part corner of Viejo San Juan). Wonderful to have parking (part of a hotel parking and it's about 1.5 blocks away by foot...drop off with parking attendant & tip him). There's a grocery store 3 blocks away and there's a little grocery cart to bring to the store (makes you feel like you're actually living there for the time you're there). House is newly renovated with all the kitchen supplies you need. It's wonderful to have the basic condiments for the occasional cooking if you decide to do, even making some soup for the kids or breakfast at the home. If you plan on staying for a short time and just explore Old San Juan, no need to rent a car. Again, the location is idea as it is about 1 block away from all the chaos/noise so it's close to the actions but you can retreat to a quiet oasis at night and not be bothered with noises. The 4 bedrooms and 2 baths are small & cozy, and the beds are very comfortable. Obviously, only spent time in bedrooms to sleep as any waking hours are spent in the living room, courtyard, or out and about. The week went by so fast...wish we could spend a month there!
This is a charming home in the heart of Old San Juan-just what you would expect of a colonial Spanish home with delightful interior brick courtyard, great décor and well-appointed kitchen. Clean and comfortable, and just around the corner from the San Juan gate-made for great sunset strolls. If you have a car, this is the place-the free spot in a valet parking lot nearby freed us from parking headaches!
Truly a HomeAway!
Great find, great location and Host!
Lovely home with all the fine details of Home in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms! Parking was a bit tough on our seniors during San Sebastian Festival but overall we had a wonderful vacation and thoroughly enjoyed everything about this home! Ample security in neighborhood as well!
Great place to stay! Loved it!
A clean, welcoming experience in the heart of Old San Juan. 6 of us stayed here and it was very roomy!
A Wonderful Experience!
The house in Old San Juan was charming, comfortable and spotlessly clean. It is located at the quiet, residential end of one of the main commercial streets of the old city. It appears small from the outside, but the living/dining room with very high ceilings feels spacious and airy. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the kitchen is modern. What an excellent updating of a historic house!
The old city has recovered impressively from Hurricane Maria and looks better even than on our last visit in 2016. What a marvelous experience it was to live in a gorgeous historic town for a few days. If you love history and culture, this is the place for you. There are so many small museums in the old city, and it is only a short hop to the two art museums in Santurce.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. At the end of our stay we accidentally left behind some items we needed. An agent of the owner actually drove out to the airport to hand deliver our items to us! This was indicative of the hospitality and kindness that we encountered throughout our stay.
