What makes this estate unique

I bought a campfire girls camp in 1995 that was 60 acres on two lakes. I kept the best 20 acres and the best 400 feet of water frontage and built a large log home for my 5 daughters and large extended family in 2000. Now that my daughters are grown and spread out I decided to share some of the beauty of this wonderful place. I recently purchased the 110 acres adjacent to my property that has over 1000 feet of additional lake frontage.

Wonderful Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this "cabin" for 3 nights with a large group and had a wonderful time. The rental is in wonderful condition - clean, neat, well-appointed and tastefully decorated. From reading the reviews I knew it would be spacious and that proved to be true. Our group had a great time relaxing in the living room with the fireplace going and sledding down the hill in the backyard (perfect for little kids).

Our family enjoyed every aspect of our vacation, the home was beautiful, very clean and we found everything we needed. Our family remarked how relaxing and peaceful it was and we had ample room for everyone. We will be going back next year. Dave was wonderful to work with.

Roomy but website was deceiving

  • 3 of 5

The setting for this home is picturesque and fairly private, although we went at Thanksgiving when the lake was pretty deserted. It is quite a ways from a main highway for those coming from out of state. It is a large area that was great for our gathering, although upon entry it was worn and not as clean as we hoped. We were a little angry upon our arrival to note that the 14th bedroom had now become an office, as we had a large party and had spent quite some time making sure everyone had a comfortable and private place to stay. Our first evening together was spent trying to shift people without upsetting anyone, knowing we were all paying the same for less than equal facilities. We had couples bunking with children and children in the living areas sleeping which was not the original plan. That really put a damper on our stay. Also note the bunk beds are not comfortable for adults.

The kitchen was great for making meals with that large a bunch and note when renting the cleaning fee clause. We were under the impression that if we left the place in good shape, stripped the beds and brought everything down to the laundry room, we would get our whole deposit back. Evidently, unless you clean the whole house and wait for 13 bedrooms full of sheets and towels to wash and to put away, remaking the bed - cleaning the showers and bathrooms - vacuuming and mopping - all before checkout time of 11 am-you will be charged a cleaning fee that will come out of your deposit. That explains why the place was not as clean as we felt it should be. We assumed that the cleaning was part of our rental fee - like a hotel or resort.

The living room was perfect for visiting and it was nice that the pool table was downstairs. The website also said there were gaming systems and games but none to be found. It appears the website needs some updating. We enjoyed our visit but these are things you should be aware of before renting and signing the contract.

Owner's Response: Although I respect every quest's right to their opinion, it is disappointing that this quest obviously got her websites and facts confused. 1. My home is advertised as 10 bedrooms, not 14 as the quest claims. The office was never a bedroom, but is in addition to the 10 advertised bedrooms. The website accurately contains the type of beds in each bedroom and states there are two bedrooms with bunk beds. Why this quest would have thought there are 14 bedrooms for her group of 24 is unknown. 2. Being from MN this quest should be aware that Wisconsin lakes at Thanksgiving would be frozen or near freezing , and there would be no boats or canoes on it. Why she would comment that the lake was deserted is unknown. 3. The location of my lake home is clearly set forth on the website, as is a potential quest's ability to look on any mapping website to see where it is located before booking it. Although my home's privacy is one of its many assets, it is located only a short distance from Wisconsin's main east-west highway. Why this quest would complain about the home's location when she can look it up before booking is unknown. 4. The comment on my home being worn and dirty is as inaccurate as this quest's other comments. I personally check- in all quests, and about 90% comment to me that the home does not look worn in any way and is nicer in person than the pictures depict. I use professional cleaners and always check their work. The home is always clean and ready for quests. 5. The cleaning fee is not only stated on the website as $17.50 per hour and averages $175, but it is also clearly stated in the contract that every quest signs. Why this quest "assumes" there is no cleaning fee is most disturbing, since I also clearly stated it to her in my emails when she inquired before signing the rental contract. I should note that her cleaning fee came to $170, or about the average stated on the site and on the contract. 6. There is a whole cabinet of games. This quest never telephoned or emailed me from the cabin asking its location if her group could not find it. What is perplexing is that this guest left me a note that they had a wonderful time and wished to come back in the summer when the lake was not frozen. Apparently when she received her security deposit back that had the $170 cleaning fee deducted per the contract, she decided to write an inaccurate review. I take great pride in my lake home and the fact that most quests desire to return.

Absolutely fabulous place for a large family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My parents, siblings, their children, great grandchildren and other relatives either stayed here or visited for an afternoon during our week-long vacation stay. The house is huge, beautiful, and comfortable. It provides everything a group would want or need for a large family vacation. The lake is small and shallow, but we had lots of fun swimming (especially the little ones because it was shallow, warm and sandy) and fishing. The owner, Dave, was very accommodating and helpful. I would HIGHLY recommend this rental to any family. I only wish we could make it a yearly event!!

Beautiful and cozy

  • 5 of 5

Our family has stayed here for a winter weekend 2 years in a row now and have loved it more every time. The home is huge and allows us an opportunity for all to be together and yet has a very warm and cozy feel. It is very well kept and is stocked with everything you could need. The owner is very accommodating and available if needed. Many wonderful and warm memories were created here. Thanks Dave!
