If you like western decor, the Ponderosa cabin is for you! The cabin has been completely remodeled. It is cozy and comfortable with an open concept and vaulted ceilings.

The great room features a flat screen TV and wood burning stove. It also opens up to the wrap around deck to provide additional living space, dining and a covered hot tub. There is a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and microwave which is open to the dining area.

The master bedroom has a queen size bed, western art, flat screen TV, and connects to the bathroom. For extra sleeping, it has a queen size sleeper sofa with memory foam mattress. Cabin also has a washer and dryer for your convenience.

Relive the days of Bonanza with photos of Ben Cartwright and Little Joe. A display of little cowpoke chaps, saddle and branding irons adorn the walls. Rustle up some grub on the BBQ and dine on the deck while enjoying a peaceful evening sunset or a relaxing soak in the hot tub. Sit back and listen to the quaking of the aspen on a lazy summer afternoon or watch the snow fall on a cool winter morning. Don’t forget your camera. You may be visited by the herd of bighorn sheep, deer, fox, squirrel or the local herd of cattle. On your way up to the cabin be sure and look for the duck and geese on the pond. After sightseeing, hiking and fishing in the area, come back and have a challenging game of horse shoes or try your skills at tether ball.

The owners of The Ponderosa want you to have a memorable stay and have provided many games, DVD’s, books, boom box, children’s books, toys and many recorded DVR movies that you can watch on the flat screen TV. Explore the property and play the hunt for gold game that is enjoyed by all the guests. The Ponderosa is perfect for the family, but yet romantic and peaceful for honeymoons and anniversaries. The cabin is private but convenient to local attractions such as Caves of The Winds, Cliff Dwellers, Cog Railroad, North Pole, Pikes Peak, Fossil beds, Mollie Kathleen Mine, Manitou Lake, 11 Mile Canyon, Lake George. Test your luck at gambling in Cripple Creek, fishing, hiking and great dining in nearby towns. Bring the buckaroos and hitch up your wagons at the Ponderosa for a fun filled vacation in the mountains.

Family escape

  • 5 of 5

This was exactly what we had hoped for! We were looking fo a snowy get away in the mountains with a hot tub to spend some time with family. Everything was wonderfully cared for and the views were amazing.

Far from home..... beautiful

  • 4 of 5

Location was perfect, quiet area. Kids loved the wilderness. The cabin had everything we needed. The only flaws were when it was time to watch movies, the DVD player didn’t work and the beds were slightly uncomfortable, other that that I would recommend this cabin

Nice cabin, but there are room for improvements

  • 3 of 5

We had a great vacation at the cabin near Cripple Creek.

What I liked:

Fully stocked kitchen with spices, condiments, and equipment.

Cable TV.

Wood stove.

Lots of extra blankets and pillows.

What I disliked:

I felt I was lied to (or the management isn't aware about their individual rentals) about the pet policy. I was told dogs were not allowed. But when we walked in there was a huge sign saying if a dog was brought then the deposit needs to be paid. I would understand if I had a large dog, but he's 25 lbs and doesn't shed. I would have happily paid the fee and deposit to have my best friend there.

Secondly, my fiance almost burned himself due to a filthy grill. He said the bottom of the grill was so full of grim & grit that it wouldn't light. However, the propane would still fill up resulting a small explosion. It's a shame because there's 2 full propane tanks and we had burgers, steaks, and brats on the menu.

Third, I believe we were the first to rent the place in a while, because there were dead flies all over (at least 10) and cob webs hanging from the kitchen light fixtures, however, the rest of the house was very clean.

Finally, the beds are very uncomfortable. The bunk beds are super thin and don't offer any support. The master bed is so soft (and I love soft beds) you sink in a foot deep when you sit down.

Ultimately, I believe these can be easily fixed. If so, then I would happily revisit the Ponderosa Cabin. This was one of the best vacations we've had in Colorado and we loved spending time together relaxing in the hot tub under the stars.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your feedback. We agree these things could have been taken care of.. and they have now been fixed. But let me thrown in a few comments, that might shed some light. We just took over the management of this property., The pet policy is indeed no pets, apparently the owner allowed pets previously, and we did not notice the opposing paper work at the cabin. That has been removed. That darn bed.. we originally had complaints about the bed being hard, and pulling you into the middle, we then replaced it, with what now sounds like it is too soft.. We are working on finding that happy medium. Sorry for all of this, we do hope you will come again! Thank you!

Lovely remote and relaxing. Really appreciated home away from home feeling. Thank you so much!

We were able to see all of the activities around the springs and Canyon City areas and with a little planning and expecting of drive time we enjoyed every minute of it! Our kids didn't even mind not being able to use phone service in the cabin it was a little concerning for us because we were worried about needing 911 but there were no problems! It was about a 45-minute drive to Colorado Springs and Canyon City but the nice thing is there's lots of maps and we took lots of different roads through the mountains and got to see a lot of different scenery,

Give it 91/2 out of 10 score

The cabin was awesome seeing the deers every day and the fox too. Taking the byways was super seeing all the small towns with the motorcycle. The view of the cabin was beautiful. We drove over 14 hours to get there we will be back love it. I have one thing to say the sheets didn't fit on bed that was not good. And we really enjoyed the hot tub. Thanks for a beautiful vacation.

Get Away

  • 4 of 5

loved the cabin.

If your looking to get away this is the spot to go to unplug no cell service (sprint don't know about other carriers) no internet and limited TV. The hot tub was perfect size for me and the wife. The road in for motorcycle is a little tricky but nothing I could not handle. The only complaint would be the master bed needs replaced. The cabin dose not have AC, but it did not get to hot in the cabin the two days we where there the high only hit 80 for maybe an hour outside (late Aug.) The cabin is roughly 9500 feet in the mountains and from what I understand (from locals) daily rain is normal in the afternoon for that part of the mountain not a big deal just let it pass and all good.

All in all me and my wife enjoyed the stay and the getaway.

Bikers from Indianapolis

P.S. Would have given 5 stars but the bed is for real a problem hopefully it will get replaced soon.
