'The Campacce' vacation houses a few kilometres south of Florence are in the open countryside the Chianti area, yet positioned to easily reach the city.
The Campacce is a recently restored farmhouse complex of immense beauty, situated in the centre of a commercial farm that produces excellent wines, oil and honey.
The apartments which sleep 2-6 surround a real terra cotta paved Italian piazza. In a space that was once used as stables, a large space has been created where cooking and painting courses, cultural events and tastings will take place.
The complex has parking, laundry facilities, a ping pong table and a place to eat in the open air.
This is a perfect place to visit Tuscany and have a quit evening around the pool or in the garden, with silence, fresh air and good wines
Our family stayed in this agriturismo in the Tuscan countryside for 7 nights in June. We flew over to meet my college-aged son, who was studying in Italy. The other children included a teen and another college student. The villa was perfectly suited to our needs and met all of our expectations. The setting was beautiful and the apartments lovely and private. Carla, our hostess, was helpful in answering any questions we had and in suggesting things for us to see. We used the villa as a base for exploring the area as well as spending some days just enjoying the scenery and the pool. Carla and her husband cooked us wonderful meals on the nights when we were "home." We enjoyed meeting the other guests and sharing our adventures with them. It is better to have a car if possible.
Carla and Sandro were wonderfully warm hosts who were excellent at recommending places to go and things to see. The accommodations were great and the countryside beautiful. There are a number of small towns within a short drive for restaurants and grocery shopping (The Coop in Pontesieve was close, helpful and well stocked). The location is convenient for getting into Florence or Sienna by train (about 30 minutes to each) as well as to visit many historic places by car. The weather in May was beautiful and we spent many an hour just lingering in the courtyard taking in the magnificent scenery as well as walking around the countryside. We had both a wine and olive oil tasting and both were superb, although if you're really interested in these it sounds like going in the fall is the better time. The church at the top of the hill is very picturesque both to be viewed from Le Campacce as well as a destination for walks. We visited the walled city of San Gimignano which was definitely worth the trip, had a phenomenal meal of wild boar at the pizza place in Donnini as well as a couple of really good meals at Francesco's. We felt as if we got a much better sense of the Italian people by being out in the country than being in a city.
Hello Beautiful perfectly describes the Campacce. My family (a group of 7 adults) just returned from our wonderful trip to Italy which included 4 nights at the Campacce. When we first drove up to the entrance of the villa we stopped and got out of the car so we could take in the breathtaking views. Carla and Sandro were the perfect host: warm, welcoming and ready to help whenever needed. We had dinner the night we arrived and again the night before our departure - I would highly recommend taking advantage of the opportunity to have a meal prepared by Carla and Sandro. The food was delicious and the vino kept coming! The location was perfect and allowed members of our group to explore the surrounding area either by car or train. The train station in S.Ellero was very easy to get to and great for traveling into Florence. The aparment was clean and well furnished and the bathrooms were nice and large. If you are visiting Tuscany then La Campacce is the place to stay - I would definately return, stay longer, eat more and drink vino with Carla and Sandro! I can't wait to try the olive oil I bought and brought home with me. Ciao!
