We are thrilled you are coming to Los Barriles, Baja Calfornia Sur (BCS) Mexico where there are no bad days! (No Maly Dias)
We came to Los Barriles on a family vacation in February 2011 on the advice of friends. We rented a beach front home and immediately fell in love with the town. Smack in the middle between Los Cabos/Cabo San Lucas and La Paz and a 4 hour direct flight from our home outside of Vancouver, British Columbia we felt it was the perfect place to start building memories. We love the rustic nature and warm energy that embraces this town.
Tracey & Adam Greenberg purchased this house in 2011
Although the beaches in Los Barriles are gorgeous and relatively quite, we choose not to buy a property on the beach. Our home's name is 'Casa Tranquila' which means Tranquil House. That description says it all for us. The ridge we are on is so quiet, peaceful and serene and the view of the ocean, mountains and arroyo from our large deck is absolutely breathtaking.
The experience at Casa Tranquila is completely private as well and that is something we value.
Another consideration are the windy days that happen frequently during the winter months in the Baja. The beach and the beach front homes are completely exposed to the wind. Our casa's home is situated in such a way, that you can comfortably spend any windy day on the deck without getting wind-blown.
Staying at Casa Tranquila provides you with a peaceful and private vacation experience. If you are looking for an opportunity to truly rejuvenate this vacation, then look no further. On those days you want to spend time on the beach, you are only a 5 min drive away (or 5-10 minute bike ride or 20 minute walk or so, depending on which part of the beach you want to go to.) You can also drive into town in 5 minutes to shop and eat.
Having stayed in rental casas with our young children all over Mexico, we can enthusiastically say that Casa Tranquila in Los Barilles was one of the very nicest. Communication with the owner was delightful from beginning to end, they were so responsive and helpful about every question we had! The casa itself is spacious and well appointed with comfortable beds, and a great separation of space. It is set up on a beautiful hillside with a gorgeous view, we did yoga every morning on the porch overlooking the ocean and those peaceful times have become life-long memories! We would awaken in the mornings to the most precious gentle ringing of bells (not at all annoying - almost angelic!) which were around the necks of herds of goats passing through the arroyo. Needless to say, our kids were delighted to get to see the baby goats every day! Los Barilles the town was a magical place, world famous for kite-surfing, we had fun watching the surfers practice their sport, as we ate shrimp tacos and were welcomed to soak in the hot tub at the local hotel's beachside restaurant. All in all, a most wonderful vacation, staying at a home-away-from-home with every amenity we needed!
Owner accurately described property in listing. I have been coming to los Barriles for 5 years and this is the first time chose to stay in a VRBO rental house. House was very clean and located outside of town in a beautiful area. Great kitchen set up and a nice BBQ for outside cooking. Used the bikes to ride into town, shop which was fun.
Enjoyed waking up every morning to the sound of bells on the local goat herd feeding by the house. A good deal of good hiking in the area too.
Owner and josefina very easy to deal with and very quick to respond to questions. Pleasure to experience this level of customer service
My family spent a week at the Casa this July, and it was a wonderful experience. You get the sense that it's truly a home, not just a house as you walk through the door. The property manager Josefina was very gracious, and gave us a complete run-down of all workings of the home. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks again for a great vacation!!!
We stayed at Casa Tranquilla for a week. It was the most tranquil week ever. Every morning you awake to the most stunning views over Los Barilles and the ocean. The house is well equipped and very comfortable. The air conditioning sure is nice! We tried almost all the local restaurants, and there was almost no negative critique (which is unusual, since we claim to be foodies). The locals are extremely friendly and helpful. There are ample activities for everyone. We went Scuba diving. Next time I would love to try the wind surfing. This place is absolutely the place to go if you want to put your feet up, have tequila, and RELAX. I can recommend this place with absolutely certainly. An added bonus; the owners are extremely nice and accommodating! Tranquil at Tranquilla!
At the end of each day there is something spectacular that takes place outside the casa. It took a while to notice what it was. At first it was the soft sound of a bell. Not the annoying ringing of an alarm or mobile phone, but a subtle "clang, clang" in the valley below. Associated with the bells was the movement of cows. The sound was coming from the bells around their neck. These cows, each day, were on a daily pilgrimage from their places of grazing to their places of rest. Their slow moving across the valley below became an instant reminder to casa inhabitants to slow down, enjoy a time of rest, go with the rhythms of the land.
I cannot recommend the casa enough. I have been to Mexico a few times , always to a resort, but never before have I been able to safely (a key word) explore a local community.
Nestled above a dried river bed and moments away from sandy beeches and amazing local food, Tracey and Adam's casa become my week-long home. I shared the space with two dear friends. The three of us quickly becoming attune to the rhythms of life in Los Barriles (inspired by the calm rhythms of the cow daily journeys).
The casa was spacious, clean, full of everything we needed (ample towels, good beds, great kitchenware). We found it easy to explore the region either on bike or by renting a car. The locals were welcoming, and it was easy to meet others tourists (and locals who have made Los Barriles their home).
If you need to get away and stay in a space of calm (avoiding the cacophony of urban life) this is a great place.
We had a lovely stay at Casa Tranquila. Watching the sunrise over the sea of Cortez from the patio over morning coffee, and the prolific number of varied bird species going to and fro about their business. The Casa is laid out in a lovely way, very spacious, and easily houses two families. The view is outstanding, looking over the arroyo to the little town of Los Barriles, where we dined on fresh seafood, savoury Mexican food, and of course, Tio Pablo's prime rib dinner! Add a few margueritas, and we certainly didn't feel like coming home. Would go again, and would certainly recommend Casa Tranquila to anyone in need of a relaxing beach vacation.
ATV's are a popular mode of transportation around town. You may want to rent one in town to explore the arroyos and countless back-country trails and roads or just to ride up and down the coast along the beach.
The beachfront resort in town, Palmas de Cortez, welcomes visitors to come and enjoy their facilities such as their swim up bar infinity pool and hot tub as long as you are enjoying one of their refreshing margaritas or nacho plates with fresh avocado or other such delectables. They have one of our favourite restaurants in town too which is also open to visitors.
