About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

A classic Maine vacation destination! Ernest Thompson stayed on Long Pond while writing his 1979 play "On Golden Pond". Our property has one of the nicest views on the south end of this famous lake, and you can enjoy it all from inside our 12'x24' screen deck. This custom designed cottage offers all the privacy and amenities you are looking for in a vacation rental. Ideal for a couple, couples or small family looking for a relaxing retreat to kayak, fish or boat. We offer a brand new kitchen, bathroom, and three bedrooms with two queen beds and two built in twin beds. Everything is new and high quality, including the linens, dishware and cooking utensils. We also have a washer and dryer, WiFi, swim platform, large floating dock, mooring, and many miles of quiet tranquil roads to walk your pet or jog. Long Pond offers nearly 3,000 acres of beautiful Maine waters with islands, pines, loons and bald eagles. More than enough for a great week of kayaking, boating or whatever your summer interests are. Long Pond is a deep, clear lake and great for swimming. Of all the Beldgrade Lakes, Long Pond is the least developed and most pristine. Drive or go by boat to the town of Belgrade Lakes for dinner or ice cream. A classic summer vacation area, Long Pond and the Belgrade Lakes area are sure to please. Approximately 3 hours from Boston.

Why Scott and Loraine chose Kennebec

This property had the best location we had seen on Long Pond, we couldn't resist the view, clear water and privacy.

What makes this cabin unique

The best thing about this cottage is that you are in 'real' cottage country when you are here. There are no long strips of overdevelopment on your drive to our place, and there no noisy highways, or large resort operations on this lake chain. We are at the end of a beautiful, quiet, country road, with great privacy. Best of all, the heavily forested shoreline of the lake means that when you are on the water, you see trees and loons, not cottages!

Camp Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I recently had the opportunity to spend a week at this awesome camp (aka lakeside cottage) during fall leaf peeping season, and knew immediately that we had discovered camp rental paradise! When we were kids, our family spent many summers at our uncle’s camp in Maine. Over the past few years, we searched for a rental that would offer a similar experience. Unfortunately, we had been disappointed until now! We were happy to find the atmosphere we remembered from our childhood, along with a lot of extra touches that made previous rentals dim in comparison. The cottage itself is very attractive on both the outside and inside. It has been wonderfully renovated and decorated to retain a traditional and cozy Maine camp feel, with added modern touches that we truly appreciated. I easily relied on the excellent internet/Wi-Fi connection when I had to keep up with a few work commitments. Everything was clean and in working order. The beds are comfortable and well-appointed; the bath is modern and roomy; and the kitchen has nice appliances along with all the necessary items for cooking just about anything. Plus there is the cutest laundry shed! The lake itself is clean and beautiful, and just a few easy steps from the roomy screened porch. The locals are friendly as we discovered when we stopped at a roadside stand, and were invited to watch the process of pressing apples for cider. We went back to the barn area for a look, and even took a turn on the vintage apple press. The environment is pristine and the surrounding area is quaint and uncrowded. There is great hiking close by, and we enjoyed visiting nearby restaurants and shops. We are looking forward to returning in the summer season to enjoy the lake even more. The landlords are very pleasant and accommodating, making us feel more like welcomed guests than anonymous renters.

Looney Tunes!

  • 5 of 5

If you can imagine lying awake at night listening to the gentle lapping of waves on the shore and countless loon families calling to each other up and down the entire 7 mile length of this lake then you have an idea what a great time we had here. A true gem!

Bonzos Hollow Gem

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay on Long Pond. It was our first experience at this lake since our previous stays were on Great Pond. We found this lake to be extremely quiet with very little boat traffic. The cottage itself was the perfect size for our family having 3 bedrooms. My son loved the twin beds in the loft and the adjoining area with the queen made our sleeping arrangements ideal. The place was clean, well stocked and well appointed upon our arrival. The owners actually visited us briefly to say hello. Scott was extremely helpful and informative regarding the area, trails, boat trailer storage, etc.

We definitely would recommend this property or any others the Bernard's own knowing they are lovingly renovated, meticulously maintained, clean and well stocked! We look forward to returning next summer.

Vacation of a Lifetime

  • 5 of 5

What an experience! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. My husband and I joined our other family members for a week long retreat, we couldn't have been happier. The cottage has everything you need, and if it doesn't, the cute little Day's Store is a short boat ride or drive away. My husband and I have been all over the world, believe me when I say that we've been to some amazingly relaxing places but this takes the cake. I can't describe the way if feels to sit on the covered patio and drink a cup of coffee or glass of wine and take in the lake view. We loved it so much that we requested a return visit before our plane even left the East coast. Book today, you will not be disappointed! Thank you Scott, see you next year :)

Perfect Lakeside

  • 5 of 5

Do you yearn for a place to call ‘home’ while you experience the relaxation and activities of a serene, lakeside setting? If so, this cottage is the perfect get-away for you and your family’s Maine vacation!

During our recent stay on Long Pond, the Bernard’s cottage welcomed our family with clean, artfully decorated rooms and many amenities to accommodate our every need. In fact, there was evidence in each room, to the care and thought considered in planning for vacationing guests.

Even though we chose an early, pre-summer week in June, we were not lacking in things to do. We fished (in every spare moment), kayaked, hiked and, yes, even swam!

This location has 2 wonderful towns close by that willingly answered our questions and provided supplies. We also explored locations within a 2½ hour drive like Acadia National Park and Booth Bay Harbor.

This was our first time to the Bernard’s cabin, but it is certainly not our last. We are already planning next year’s adventure. Thank you so much Scott and Loraine!

Perfect restful and relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week at this cottage and we couldn't be any happier. The property and location is perfect. Couldn't have asked for a better vacation. The loons, fishing, and Day's Store were the highlights of our trip. Make your selection of a property in the Belgrade Lakes easy and pick this one. Or don't because we want to go back.

We are located halfway between the quaint lake country towns of Belgrade Lakes and Mt. Vernon, Maine. Enjoy a wonderful breakfast or lunch at The Old Post Office Cafe in Mt. Vernon, where you can sit with a view to the lake, or dine at The Village Inn in Belgrade lakes where the food is also excellent. Long Pond is a Kayakers paradise. It is approximately 6 miles from one end to the other with a rugged shoreline, many islands and two rivers to explore. Much of the shoreline is still undeveloped, and wildlife is abundant. Fishing is excellent with salmon, trout and bass making up the bulk of the gamefish. Hiking at nearby Kennebec Highlands is great way to spend a morning or afternooon, with panoramic views of Long Pond and Great Pond. Activities include swimming, kayaking, boating, canoeing, fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and hiking. Our cottage is not part of a resort or 'group' of cottages or camps. Our proximity to the lake is excellent, we are only steps to the water. We are at the end of a long, quiet country road, there is no through traffic.
