Overview

Montezuma House Rental Photos and Description

Two-story Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths. Sleeps 6

Casa Solipaz, the premier property in the gated community of Armonia Eco-Village, offers constant breezes, mesmerizing ocean and mountain views, and a cooling, salt water infinity pool.

Situated at the highest point of this 25-acre, lush community, the home offers numerous fans as well as energy-efficient air-conditioning in each room.

Wake up to stunning ocean views from any of the three bedrooms.

The large upstairs master bedroom features a shower that looks out onto the sea. Practice yoga on the spacious, private patio located just outside the bedroom’s large sliding glass doors. Or just relax into the cushions of our outdoor furniture.

The downstairs en suite bedrooms have charms of their own. The poolside bedroom offers its own patio, perfect for reading or just soaking in the view while sitting in comfy, teak Adirondack chairs. The second downstairs bedroom has an “outdoor” shower with eye-level screened windows on three sides and stained-glass window insets throughout (no worries - only the monkeys and parrots can see in!).

The kitchen highlights include island cabinets made from guanacaste, the national tree of Costa Rica. The tree had fallen naturally in the jungle; a permit was required to remove it and use the wood. The doors throughout the home are constructed from farmed laurel, continuing the home’s Eco-friendly theme. The entire house and pool are solar-powered in keeping with Costa Rica’s national goal of carbon neutrality.

The fully functional kitchen offers a wide variety of cooking utensils, pots, pans, fridge, blender, coffee maker, teapot, griddle, toaster, dishwasher and microwave oven. Cook inside or make a pizza in our wood-fired pizza oven located on the patio in the back of the house (complete instructions from an experienced local pizza maker included!).

The rancho, located down the hill in front of the house, has a mini-fridge for storing cool drinks and is another great spot to hang out or sunbathe on the home’s many chaise lounges.

Bio-diverse gardens enhance the front of the house, filled with a variety of floral and palm species. At night, the gardens are illuminated by energy-efficient lighting which casts warm shadows over the landscape.

Bring your binoculars with you if you decide to hike down the trails behind the house to the river that runs through Armonia Eco-Village.

Iguanas, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, armadillos, pizotes, sloths, deer, foxes, puma, and a huge variety of birds - including toucan, parrots, hummingbirds, motmots, tanagers, and pelicans - live in the community and regularly visit our property.

A wonderful groundskeeper, and Gini, our terrific property manager who speaks english, french and spanish, will ensure that your stay here is memorable. She can help you arrange various excursions, including surfing, fishing, boating, kayaking, snorkeling, cycling, horseback riding, birdwatching, hiking, zip-lining and golfing.

Also ask about the many fine restaurants in the area. La Playa de los Artistas is our personal favorite; sitting right on the beach, you might be lucky enough to see dolphins dancing as you enjoy world-class cuisine.

About Kathy Swanwick

We first visited Costa Rica in 2008 and were immediately enchanted by the lovely people, slower lifestyle, incredible climate and wonderful food.

From the start, we felt comfortable here. So after a few more visits, we decided to look for a piece of land on which to build Casa Solipaz (House of Sun and Peace).

Standing atop our hill in Armonia Eco-Village, we were awed by the incredible ocean and jungle views as well as the constant, cooling breezes.

We were also impressed with Armonia's focus on protecting the environment; the small community has been carefully constructed with the least possible intrusion on the jungle and its many denizens.

We knew this would be the site of our second home, one we would like to share with others when we cannot be in residence.

Please enjoy the home's tranquility, as well as the area's many fun, exciting attractions!

Why Kathy Swanwick chose Puntarenas

Casa Solipaz, with its calming, panoramic ocean and jungle views, simply emanates peace. Gentle breezes, a refreshing horizon pool and the sounds of howler monkeys calling in nearby trees await your arrival!

The brand new luxury home's ample outdoor seating areas assure relaxing days. Indoors, enjoy a home-cooked meal in the dining area, sit on the comfortable couch and watch a bit of TV on the 42-inch screen, or use the WiFi to catch up on your e-mail.

Hang around the house and property or head out to the hip beach town of Montezuma, just five minutes away by car. You'll find great restaurants and outdoor activities such as zip-lining, waterfall climbs and boating trips.

What makes this house unique

Casa Solipaz was designed with the environment and the mesmerizing ocean view in mind. The house and pool are powered by the sun, and we have many eco-friendly fans. There are also energy-efficient air-conditioners in each room - but you will probably not need them on most days. Open doors and the sea breeze will provide Nature's own air-conditioning!

The secluded area ensures quiet and privacy.

Please use the outdoor pizza oven; precise instructions are included.

Amazing house with a gorgeous view!

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this house. The pool was great and the view from the patio was incredible. The only reason we're not giving 5 stars was because the AC went out in one of the rooms on the 2nd day of our 4 night stay. The electricians didn't come until the morning we were leaving. One of the couples put their mattress in the living room for 3 nights. Otherwise, we loved it!

Owner's Response: Hi, Alana, Many thanks for your review! I am so sorry that the a/c in one room went out during your stay and that it took two days for the electrician to arrive. There are only a couple of good electricians in the area and it can sometimes be difficult to get one to arrive in a timely manner when you need them. But I am happy that, overall, you enjoyed your stay at Casa Solipaz and we hope to have you as our guests again one day. Thanks again, Kathy Many thanks, Kathy

Simply great!

  • 5 of 5

Our family lodged in four different VRBO homes during our extended visit to Costa Rica and this home was by far the best! This is a beautiful vacation home with modern amenities. The view, pool, house design and accommodations were great. The location offers quick access to points in Montezuma but not part of the busy town. On site Gini is helpful and answered all our questions. Everything went perfect!

Owner's Response: Hi, Kimo, Thanks for the wonderful review! Gini is just the best; she is so sweet and helpful to our guests. Casa Solipaz, as you note, has in a nearly perfect location, close enough to the local fun in Montezuma, yet far away from the crowds. The peace and tranquility, not to mention the ocean view, are tangible and tantalizing. We hope to host you again one day. Many thanks, Kathy

Beautiful property in a unique location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this home. It is a couple of miles north of Montezuma in a secluded development in a jungle. The word development is used loosely here. The house is at the top of a hill overlooking the tops of trees, with the Pacific Ocean in the distance. The view is amazing and there are no houses in sight. You are alone up there! The house is tiered, with the garage at the bottom. You go up one flight of stairs and there is a yoga deck on the next level. After the next set of stairs, you are at the main house, bottom floor. There is a nice pool outside and a lovely patio. The main floor of the home has two nice sized bedrooms, each with a nice bathroom. There is also a half bath, nicely stocked kitchen, and nice living/dining area. Up a flight of inside stairs is the master suite. It is huge with windows everywhere and a nice bathroom. It has its own patio with panoramic views of the trees and ocean. Behind the house on the main floor, there is a brick oven for pizzas (which we didn't use due to time constraints) and the washer and dryer.

As a family of five, we were very comfortable here. There was plenty of room to spread out and relax. The girls enjoyed the pool, as well. During our stay, the oven was found to be broken, but is slated for repair. I can't think of any other issues. Due to its remote location, the manager will meet you the first time to escort you there. Don't think you can find it on your own with GPS coordinates. Not happening!!! The only other word of warning I can think of is that this property is not for the mobility impaired due to number of stairs required. The hike up is worth it when you see your view, though! :)

Owner's Response: Hi, Chip, Thanks for the great review! We're so happy you enjoyed your stay and all that Casa Solipaz has to offer. Yes, we are secluded and it is truly one of the home's charms; the monkeys, pisotes, agouti and so much more wildlife continue to feel comfortable in their space as well. As you point out, we are in the process of repairing or replacing the oven. Too bad you didn't have time for the pizza oven, though - such fun! Hope you come to visit again in the future. Kathy

Beautiful spacious home with a wonderul kitchen.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at Casa Solipaz. Very nice place. We were excited to try the pizza oven outdoors. It is for real! Wood is right there. Make a fire, follow the instructions and use the peel ( big spatula). We made 8 pizzas all delicious. The house is not far from Montezuma Beach. Get your directions and/or wayz map location to be sure you find it easily. Car required. Beautiful view. Crystal clear salt water pool. Very good spot!

Amazing!!!!

  • 4 of 5

We had an amazing stay. The house was everything and then some extra icing on top. It was tucked away on a mountain in jungle like surroundings. The house had all the amenities you could ask for. I cooked breakfast just about every morning in the gourmet kitchen. The kitchen came equipped with all the dinnerware one would need. The pool was great but we spent a lot of time outside of the house jet- skiing, zip-lining, scuba diving (Zuma Tours), ATV riding (Eddie with Sun Trails) and enjoying various restaurants. Nevertheless, we spent a lot of time resting and watching movies on Netflix....RELAXING!!! We needed time away and this was by far the best vacation I've experienced EVER!! Jenny was awesome and we met another young lady on our way out. Both were sweet and gave us the run-down for the house. This was better than any hotel....the only thing missing was a hair dryer. : ) Everything was perfect. We are definitely coming back with the kids next year. Thank you Mrs. Kathy....and company for your assistance. We had the time of our lives.

One reminder: You will need a rental car 4x4 and unfortunately you will need an extra $1000 to $1500 down (held until you bring the truck back) for insurance while you have the rental. Please keep that in mind.

Simply put this place is AWESOME!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have landed in a better location after somewhat of a stressful venture. The owners have constructed a magnificent home with that villa feel that is welcoming and invites one to do nothing but relax! The grounds are well kept and the multiple covered verandas provide shade throughout the day for relaxing, reading and a cocktail or two! The kids had a great time in the pool and were occupied with the wildlife sightings throughout the trip. Montezuma is a charming little town with a variety of beaches and places to explore. My only suggestions to others would be to make sure you rent a car! We were happy we did, the trek up the hill would have been tough for not only the kiddos but the adults as well! We would highly recommend this place to anyone and we will most likely return ourselves next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Steve, We were very happy to have hosted you and are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay! It's the commanding ocean view, I think, that compels us all to sit and relax, as well as the cooling breezes. Thanks for the note on having a car; we also recommend that guests rent a 4x4 as it makes it easier to get up our hill and to explore the general area. Looking forward to hosting you again, Kathy
