Location: Inside the gated community of Rio Surf and Sand on Beach Drive, Aptos, Santa Cruz County, CA.
Accommodations: House, 3 levels, 1 bedroom (queen bed) and bathroom on ground floor with separate entrance, 1 bedroom (queen bed) and half bath on first floor, 3 bedrooms on upper level (one king in master with full bath & Jacuzzi one double and twin trundle beds) with another full bathroom. Two living room areas.
Nestled in the small gated community of Rio Surf & Sand lies our rustic beach house, across the street from the sand and waves of our private beach adjoining Rio Del Mar Beach. The upper two levels have windows that view the water and beach. Each level has two small decks that offer a private place to enjoy the tranquility and sounds of the beach. However, the views of the beach and Monterey Bay from the glass walled upper level living room are especially beautiful! But best of all is the large roof top deck that offers unparalleled views from Santa Cruz to Monterey and Moss Landing. It's the perfect place to sunbathe, visit with your family after a swim in the ocean and enjoy a beautiful sunset with a glass of wine.
After taking walks along the miles of sandy beaches, collecting sea shells and watching the dolphins swim by at various times of the day, you can always check out the concrete ship and Museum by Seacliff Beach. Conveniently located in Aptos, our home is near shopping, golfing, restaurants, cinema, and other activities. There's kayaking and wildlife viewing at Elkhorn Slough; hiking and mountain biking at Nisene Marks State Park; boating, wind-surfing and dinner & cocktail cruises on the Chardonnay at Santa Cruz Harbor. Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is a short drive.

Great views from both 2nd and 3rd floors and also decks. Top deck had amazing views. Kitchen and bathrooms were clean and adequate. House did need up-keeping. Cobwebs throughout, ants on 2nd floor by windows. Master bedroom had broken louvers so there was no way to close off bedroom from living room. Bedroom louvers that separated bedroom from living room actually fell out on us (whole thing). Screen door in master bedroom was bent and fell out. Shutters on window in master bedroom missing slats. closet door missing slats. No screen door in 2nd bedroom on third floor (broken and set out side). Burnt out light bulbs in two bedrooms. .
We stayed here after the house we actually had rented and paid through Bailey Properties was taken back by the owner at the last minute. When the rental office gave me the address for this house as a "replacement property" I was very apprehensive. I looked up this address and and saw the other review. I questioned the rental office about the poor review and Bailey properties said that they have had many happy people rent this house, but every once in a while they get someone unhappy who actually writes a review. Bailey Property Management also said the beach access was across the stree. BOTH OF STATEMENTS WERE UNTRUE.
This place is in dire need of updating and deep deep cleaning. I don't have the time to write the paragraphs I should, but please understand that this house was gross on so many levels. Dust, dirt, grime, broken screens, broken fans, holes in closet doors, broken bathroom tile, broken patio furniture, cigarette butts on the balconies, and much more. I was in tears as I had other families joining me for this long weekend. Everything else in area was sold out or we would have moved to another house.
There is also no beach access across the street. In our case we had planned on this due to the misinformation of Bailey management. There are stretches of truth, and then there are outright lies. In this case we were outright lied to. I had questioned Bailey because I did not see beach access across the street on Google maps. I was assured by Isabella in the office repeatedly that the access was right across the street. It was not. To access the beach you either have to walk 20 houses down the street and across a vacant lot or 10 houses the other direction and through the gate. If it was all grownups that would have been okay, but the reason I was paying close to $xxx a night was for beach access across the street for kids and gear.
Please learn from my weekend and do not rent this house or use Bailey Management. Both are bad bets.
After driving 3 1/2 hours to this rental (with a baby) we were tired and soooo excited to see the place. When we walked in, we were speechless. We have rented many homes over the past 15 years and this place was disgusting. Dirt, dust, food splatters, etc. We walked right out and back to the rental office. We had to fight for our money back and it took some time before they refunded us. DO NOT RENT THIS PLACE!!!!!
