Another sunny day in paradise? Sit on your balcony and enjoy the view of the garden down below.
Raining? Embrace it-listen to it patter on the roof and skylights of your vaulted ceilings.
Enjoy the radiant warmth of your heated floors- or your gas fireplace.
We know what we would like to find when we travel. Need an extra cookie sheet or serving dish? Did you forget something? Or did we? We're downstairs- just ask.
We provide extra quality linens and stock our dispensers with quality toiletries.
For entertainment- a 42' flat screen TV with a PVR, digital channels and a quality sound system, a clock radio with an ipad docking station. And of course, a stocked bookcase and quality Canadian Magazines.
For work- a notebook desk with ample outlets, usb charging ports, wireless internet access, phone service with free North American calling (international calling by arrangement)- and those little things you need- scotch tape, staples, etc.
Our home was completely rebuilt with the finest mechanical systems, a Heat Recovery Ventilation System (which constantly brings fresh air indoors), and never out hot water.
How about a full size washer and drier- and even a shoe drier and lock box for your valuables?
We have tried to provide every comfort to make your stay with us enjoyable.
We think you will really like Strathcozy!
We love our country, province and city- and love to welcome visitors.
We travel a lot ourselves, and we know what it's like to be impressed or disappointed with accommodations. We have created a welcoming, comfortable, clean place where visitors will feel at home.
We are the type of travelers who want to be surrounded by locals and to get the feel of the place we are visiting and what it might be like to live there.
We don't want to jump off a tour bus, have our picture taken beside a Totem pole, then get on the bus to the next photo op.
We want to understand the Totem Pole- who carved it, and where are they? What does it mean? How did it end up in Stanley Park?
If you are our kind of traveler, Strathcozy is you kind of place.
One thing we really hate about travel- places that raise their rates during busy times. What's that about? We will never do that.
We are two straight-friendly gay men who have lived together in Vancouver for 40 years.
Nous parlons francais.
Und wir sprechen ein bischen Deutsch.
Hablamos tambien espagnol un poco.
Richard Dennis purchased this apartment in 1988
We purchased our home in this neighborhood because of its close proximity to downtown. We are both cyclists- our primary mode of transportation in the city.
We are a 40-minute walk or 10-minute cycle ride to Granville and Georgia Streets- the center of downtown Vancouver.
Our neighbours are really nice people. Most are socially and environmentally conscious, and share our city's ambition to be the world's greenest city.
Strathcona has been designated a Heritage area by the City of Vancouver. Older buildings are protected and new development must conform to guidelines that maintain its late-Victorian character and charm. A highly desirable neighbourhood in a highly desirable city.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has rated Vancouver as the third most livable city in the world, and its spectacular natural setting makes it one of the world's most beautiful cities.
It is also a tolerant, diverse city. It is impossible to be a resident of our city and not have an acquaintance or friend who is from a cultural background that is completely different than yours. The multiculturalism here is amazing. There are people from everywhere in the world- it would be hard to find a culture, ethnicity or religion that isn't represented here, and everyone gets along
The suite we are offering is truly beautiful. High ceilings, lots of light and quality finishes lend an atmosphere of coziness and warmth.
Our strict non smoking, no candles, no incense and no pets policy together with our ventilation system, hardwood and tile floors (only the stairs are carpeted) all add up to fresh, clean air. No need for chemicals to mask odors. Ideal for those prone to allergies.
We had a great stay!! Hosts were amazing!! They were super friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable about the area. The place is stocked with EVERYTHING you could possibly want or need. This was our 1st time to Vancouver... we loved it! Hope to go back and this is definitely where we plan to stay!!
Strathcozy is centrally located, convenient to downtown and not far from our favorite eating and shopping street -- Commercial St. -- and the apartment is equipped and stocked better than any mainstream hotel. On top of that, they are they are terrific hosts: thoughtful, available but never intrusive.
From the time that we arrived to the moment that we left, our hosts showed that they had thought of everything. The apartment is decorated with an eye to making great use of its space. All appliances and kitchen are new and well maintained. Also, the owners had supplied the kitchen with some packaged snacks and beverages for our use. Whenever we had a problem--be it having trouble starting the clothes dryer or making the tv work, our hosts were right there with help. If we had a question about where the local grocery was or the nearest bus stop, they either had detailed, prepared printed instructions or they gave clear directions. When we mentioned that we would need a taxi to get to the cruise port, our host immediately pulled out a small notepad and wrote down the phone number for the cab, recommending that on Sunday we call a bit in advance to make sure that the cab would be here on time. The rental had numerous brochures and guidebooks for sites to see and a well stocked library for quiet time
While the rental is a bit of a walk from downtown, Chinatown, and Gas Town, the walks were pleasant and the neighborhood was a pleasant place from which to begin our adventures.
My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Strathcozy last week. The apartment is immaculate with wonderful warm, yet functional touches. Our hosts put much care and attention into the apartment and making sure guest are comfortable. The place delightfully rounded out our Vancouver adventure! Thank you again, Frank and Richard, for your hospitality.
My husband, teen-aged, daughter and I stayed a week in this vacation rental that had the feel of home; the living room is comfortable with a large screen TV, cable and Netflix, and a sofa bed; the kitchen is fully equipped with everything one would need to cook full meals (which we did); the bathroom is spacious, with good water pressure and body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were thoughtfully provided as well as hotel quality towels; the bedroom is spacious, sunny and a bedside fan is provided for added comfort. There are books for reading and browsing, and maps, bus schedules, and points of interest for the explorers. Laundry was not an issue since there are full-sized machines for one’s use, as well as the detergent and softener (for a minimal fee). The Wi-Fi speed was great, there’s a safety box to store one’s valuables, and the closet is quite spacious. Overall, it exceeded my expectations.
The area could not be better – stores, cafes, parks, and the downtown area are within walking distance so we did not have to use our car to get anywhere. For Californians that is a treat!!
We truly enjoyed our week’s stay in Strathcozy. I agree with the other reviewers that Richard and Frank thought of everything, and I think it’s because they offer a place in which they themselves would feel at home, too. The neighborhood is fabulous. You’ll enjoy strolling around picking up some of its history by the various markers dotting homes, buildings and sidewalks. And finally, you will not come across better hosts than Richard and Frank. Their friendliness, advice, tips, and suggestions on getting around the city were invaluable. Book Strathcozy for your stay in Vancouver, you won’t regret it.
My husband and I stayed at Strathcozy for four nights while we attended various events in and around Vancouver. The suite is a lofty, light-filled, and airy space. We appreciated the eclectic decor, well-stocked kitchen, and keyless entry. Our hosts were friendly, hospitable, and even accommodated my elderly parents on our final night's stay. I hope Richard and Frank will have us back for another visit.
We are located in Vancouver's oldest neighbourhood, 6 blocks east of Chinatown and the exquisite Dr Sun Yat-sen classical Chinese garden. On your way to Chinatown you will pass the Strathcona Community Center. If you're up early enough you can witness the Chinese people doing Tai Chi in McLean Park, and pass by a small but really beautiful Buddhist Temple. When you reach Chinatown you are half way downtown. Gastown is just north of Chinatown.
One block to the east is the Ray-Cam Community Center, seven blocks east is the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center, and Commercial Drive.
We are next door to the Roman Catholic Sacred Spirit Center, Sacred Heart Parish and Kateri Center.
At the other end of our block is the Ukrainian Cultural Centre and around the corner is the Russian Hall and a small Russian Orthodox church.
We are a 20-minute walk to Science World, Pacific Central bus and train station (VIA rail and Amtrak), and the Main St or Stadium Skytrain stations. For further transit info go to Translink.ca- use E Pender @ Campbell Ave as a departure point for trip planning. We are a block away from Hastings Street (Hwy 7a) which is a major transportation artery. The transit service from here is great.
The following car share programs operate in our neighbourhood: Car2Go and MODO.
We are 4 short blocks north of the Adanac bike route- leading downtown to the west or towards Commercial Drive to the East. Vancouver is scheduled to have a community bike share program in place by the summer of 2013.
If your visit to Vancouver is to work or relax, you just might want to stay in Strathcona. Walk over to Union Market, a corner store unlike any other. They bake their own bread, and the tables outside are a great place to watch the cyclists whiz by.
