3 bedroom, 1 bath with private beach front. Ocean view, and quiet!
The cottage is on a quiet private spot overlooking Penobscot Bay. Western views of Penobscot Bay for beautiful sunsets over the water. 900 feet of shore frontage, quiet setting with private deck. A lighthouse across the Bay continues to direct some large vessels to Bucksport. In the fog, you may hear the fog horn sound every 7 seconds. The beach is a great spot for walking, collecting beach glass, and driftwood. Our regulars like to build forts on the beach with the many shapes and sizes of driftwood that wash up. There are also a couple of lakes in the area if you would like to visit some fresh water.
We are equal distance to Belfast, Bangor and Ellsworth. Short drive to many coastal Maine towns; 12 min to Blue Hill, 7 min to Castine, 45 min to Acadia National Park, and 60 min to Camden/Rockport.
I do my major grocery shopping in Bucksport, a comfortable 10 mile country drive.
One bedroom on the ground floor has a double bed, One upstairs bedroom has a double bed and the other 2 twins.
Maine has a rich literary history - and if you are bringing your kids, grab a copy of some Robert McCloskey favorites; One Morning In Maine, Burt Dow Deep Water Man, Time of Wonder. We can give you directions to Condon's Garage so you can eat ice cream by the harbor and read these iconic books to your kids. Burt Dow's headstone is only a short drive from there, and the locals regularly adorn it with a painted buoy. We like to think Giggling Gull visits from time to time.

Didn't want to leave!
My husband, two year old daughter and I stayed at this wonderful beach cottage in late July/ early August 2017. It was spectacular. Every morning before venturing out to neighboring attractions, we spent relaxing on the beach-picking up shells, rock hunting and enjoying the lull of the waves. It was such a peaceful way to start the day.
It was easy to find things to do locally-Moose Point and Fort Point State Park were a few minutes drive. Deer Isle is a wonderful scenic island, chock full of artist workshops. You could get lost in the most wonderful way exploring all the little towns around Penobscot-we even stumbled upon acres of a wild blueberry patch we had all to ourselves (and yes, Maine wild blueberries are the best tasting you'll have-we made blueberry muffins in the well stocked kitchen that night!).
If you wanted to venture further, I'd recommend avoiding the hustle and bustle of Acadia and heading straight to Schoodic Point, where you felt like you were on the edge of the Earth sitting on the rock cliffs, facing the endless ocean before you.
Before dark most nights, we made sure to be back at the cottage where we found ourselves once again on the beach, this time enjoying the vast sunset and welcoming the purples of twilight with a fire. The crackle of the flames against the rhythmic lapping of the waves was the perfect soundtrack to the beautiful scenery.
Before long, I was mentally moving in-imagining every one of my mornings on the back deck with a hot tea and taking in the majestic quiet that so speaks to my heart. But alas, it was time to go.
I'm so very thankful for Venessa-it was the first time we were traveling with a spunky toddler and the little touches she provided (a basket of toys, baby gate, pack n' play, etc.) were thoughtful and appreciated. This is truly a magical place that will always live in our memories.
Dear Serina..Thank you for the great revue. It was a pleasure having you and your family in my cottage this past summer. Hope you, your husband and "spunky toddler" have a great year. Venessa
Cozy and peaceful!
I had such a nice month-long stay at Vanessa's cottage! It was very cozy and quiet - just what I wanted. I loved the views of the bay out of the large windows and watching the amazing sunsets and the occasional boat float by. Walking on the beach was also a very picturesque and relaxing activity. My family and friends also had a good time at the cottage during their shorter visits. Vanessa was very welcoming and I enjoyed hearing all the stories she has to tell. And her blueberry muffins are amazing! She was easy to communicate with and was quick to act when there was an issue with the heater. The wood stove was great for keeping us toasty in the interim. The location is great; it was easy to take day trips to Acadia and even the mid-coast region from the cottage. There's also plenty to do in the nearby towns even during the off season. I would love to stay here again when I need a peaceful retreat!
Charming cottage with nice views in a good location.
My wife, daughter and myself enjoyed our stay. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable vacation. The location was private enough yet it was conveniently located close to beautiful local towns/villages, and a relatively short drive to Acadia National Park.
Very special place! Loved the rocky beach, lighthouse across the bay, and the cottage itself was cozy and comfortable! The owner was friendly and helpful. We would stay again and recommend to others!
Thanks, Dawn. Very much enjoyed having you all as guests. Also appreciated the note which you left! Perhaps we will meet again "down the road". Venessa
Home away from Home
Our family of 5 had a great time here in Penobscot Maine. This Beachfront Family Retreat is just what we needed. Evenings out on the deck were great for family game nights and the walks on the beach down below in the morning were rememberable. We are hoping to return in the future.
Thank you very much, Caroline. Venessa
Great place to relax, daydream and enjoy nature!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Penobscot Cottage in Penobscot, Maine. The location was superb, with a beautiful bayside view from the deck, which was facing west giving us a few great sunsets. The deck was a wonderful place to read and relax. It was surrounded by foliage but did not block the bay.
There are three bedrooms, two that have full-size (although seem larger than our full size at home) beds and one with two single beds. The bathroom has a shower but no tub.
There was plenty of room in the main kitchen/living area, with a nice large table. The kitchen and all it’s amenities were well cleaned. There was no need to wash anything prior to use! We used the kitchen for most of our meals. There is a microwave, but we used the electric stove for all our cooking.
There is a TV and DVD player if you are so inclined, but the best entertainment is sitting on the deck and watch clouds, water and the changing light over the bay. Don’t forget to go outside after dark, and recline in one of the long deck chairs and look up at the sky! On a clear night, it’s a stargazer’s paradise. Living in NYC, you never see stars due to all the light pollution, so this was truly a treat!
I had a couple of phone calls/email exchanges with owner and her son (who helps out with bookings), prior to our visit and they were both quick to respond and eager to answer any questions we had. We found them to be gracious and kind in all our communications from the beginning of the process to the end of our stay. We were lucky to be there when her son and his family we're visiting, and they kindly invited us to join their fire and S’mores-making on the beach. That was a definite highlight for us. It felt like visiting with old family friends! I think this is what we are likely to remember the most years from now.
Aside from taking a ride to Acadia and hiking the Long Pond Trail in Southwest Harbor, there are plenty of things to do in closer vicinity. We hiked up Blue Hill Mountain, in nearby Blue Hill and were lucky to be visiting at the time of the Blue Hill County fair! It's always fun to see prize-winning livestock. Blue Hill also has a very nice grocery store called Trade Winds which had a lot of variety for those who are looking for some organic, and local food or have need of gluten free options.
If you are looking for quiet and water, we definitely recommend Penobscot Cottage!
