Susan and Steve Host are small business owners in Richmond, Texas.
Steve Host purchased this estate in 2002
Susan and Steve both vacationed at Garner State Park growing up, and always dreamed of having their own place. When they saw the property, they fell in love with it. They built all the structures on the property, and cleared the land. They have created a vacation place for their families and hope you enjoy it as much as they do.
Steve and Susan hand picked where to place the cabins for optimal views as well as to take advantage of the breezes that blow through the porches year round. They have taken a great amount of time, energy and care to make the property a wonderful vacation destination for you and your family.
My whole family was just blown away by the property and accommodations. The pictures don't do it justice. We had a family reunion at Garner State Park and it rained on and off for most of the weekend. We hated to leave the property to go to the park and the river. We just wanted to sit on that porch and watch the kids play in the rain. It was hard to leave.
Steve, I've got some great photos if you're interested to add here.
This property is absolutely gorgeous and is set up very well for large groups. Loved the crosses and scriptures thought that was an incredible nice touch. Thanks to the Host family for sharing their little piece of heaven here on earth.
We had the pleasure of staying at the Host Retreat May 15-17, 2015. The property exceeded expectations for everyone! After large amounts of rain the previous week, everything was so green and the creek on the property flowing. The sounds of the water and view of the surrounding hills was comfort for the soul. Our small group enjoyed hiking on the property and playing basketball on the court. The Hosts had everything ready when we arrived, even cake plans and a hand mixer since I had mentioned to them making a cake while there! Thank you Steve and Susan for sharing this wonderful place with us.
Property is amazing! Perfect for larger groups. Even though we were on our motorcycles and got hit by sever thunderstorms, it couldn't have gotten any better. 3 days were definitely not enough. I especially love the crosses and scriptures throughout the property. Praise God for creating all of this beauty and the owners for sharing.
We were actually there 7/13/2013 and, I believe, the first people to rent this property. We had to wait 2 hours to get in and the time was prearranged. Steve was great to talk to, but follow through was not so great. It was the first time for them to rent it so I'll give leeway there. We had a family reunion and 7 kids of various ages. At some point, supposedly one of the grandchildren put the guest book in the freezer so I was told. I paid for it, but the tenor of the conversation led me to believe we are not welcome there anymore. Things happen with kids that we don't always know and I was happy to pay for the book and doubt it was ruined as quickly as they found it. I thought this trivial. The rest was as described and I would stay there again, but got the distinct impression we are not welcome there again. It's too bad because it's a beautiful property and we left it clean. I'll give it 4 stars because the experience was one star less than expected even when I take responsibility for the book. No river access detracts too, but all of the other activities there more than make up for it.
I think we were the first people to ever rent this property. It was very nice. We had a family reunion with lots of kids. We were there 4th of July, 2013 and it was nice, but still had kinks to be worked out. The cabin wasn't open when we got there and we waited almost 2 hours for the property manager to get there. Everything was as described and the property manager was most accommodating. Apparently one of the grandchildren ended up putting the guest book in the freezer and I paid for it, but got the distinct feeling that we were not wanted back and this directly from the owner. All in all, we loved the place and would go back, but I was disappointed in the owner's communication skills when we only tried our best to do all we were asked to do. Things do happen with kids that grandparents don't know. Oh well, it was a great experience. It is not on the river and that is the drawback.
