Newly remodeled 1br/1ba with exotic hardwood floors, porcelain countertops, nickel appliances and hot tub overlooking the lake. Great screen porch for afternoon leisure. This villa is attached to VRBO# 353073 giving room for an additional 4 guests.'Rosella' is a cottage built on the shores of the beautiful and private Mountain Island Lake. Much of this lake is parklands, wildlife, sanctuaries and properties restricted from development. This home was built in 1952 and has provided decades of lakefront fun and fishing. Years ago the house was divided into two separate apartments. In 2011 we converted the upstairs into a vacation rental. In March 2013 we completely updated the decor. We provide high speed wireless internet, flat screen TV's, but you can get most of that at a Holiday Inn. The unique experience you get with a stay here is that little step back in time. It starts when you pull in to the skinny gravel drive and end up at a plain but well kept mid-century home. There are paneled walls unit a/c and no dishwasher. No subdivision, no pool, no tennis courts. There are only two neighbors. There is a 2 bedroom unit above that is also available for rent. Unless you plan on renting both units you should be planning a quiet stay. Prior guests that have most enjoyed Rosella spend much of their time on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Rosella was built right on the lake's shoreline. You are so close to the boats going by you can see right inside them. At night when they cruise by you could truly join in their conversation. The place is very popular and in our few short years leasing it we have had hundreds of guests. In that time we have learned that Rosella is not for everyone. We have done our best to accurately describe the "experience". If that slow paced step back in time is not what you are looking for you may not enjoy Rosella, if on the other hand, you would like to relive the way things used to be or experience it for the first time we don't think you will be disappointed. We look forward to your arrival. In 2014, we just purchased a new Harris Floteboat that will be docked at the home and available for rent. Rental fee is $150/day and includes gas and insurance. This rate is approximately 1/2 the going rate in the area. Boat rental is scheduled separately from the vacation rental. It is strongly advised that you reserve it prior to your arrival.
Bob and Kim
We are Bob and Kim and we are lake enthusiast. We own homes on several of the lakes in the area. We presently live on a lake close by and we love this place so much we spend many weekends here.
Bob Rudolph purchased this villa in 1990
Rosella provides a fairly unique experience for it's guests. Located in the city of Charlotte
there is not another lake front rental that is closer to downtown (typically 15 minutes)
The fact that there is another unit attached is a different twist and we are strict in our vetting of potential guests because of it.The result is that we have never had a compliant
about the behavior of an adjoining guest. In fact we have had guests that have met and
planed their next stay to coincide with their new found friends.
Many of our guests come to experience the National White water Center. If you come, we strongly suggest you visit there. It's a man made river rapids that you can kayak
or do a guided raft run. This is the only man made Olympic qualifying rapids in the country. There is vertical rock climbing, zip linning and a lot more outdoor adventures.
If you don't feel quite that adventurous there is a riverside restaurant where you can get a great meal and a glass of wine that you can sip while you watch crazy
people careen down a wall of water and rocks. There are also summer concerts and island sunset parties. It costs just $5 to park and nothing to visit the center.
You can drive from Rosella, park your car, and walk to the rivers edge in less than 10 minutes.
Rosella truly sits on historic ground. The old Rozzelle plantation house was just 200 feet away, later named Laura's Rozzelle House. The old home was used as a pre-civil war ferry docking point and a boarding house and then restaurant until the 1980s. The property this house sits on has been used for rest and hospitality for about 170 years and if open your self to the experience you can feel it. Try not to think of Rosella as a commodity, leave your preconceptions of what it should be behind and open yourself to
feel the foot prints left by literally thousands of travelers that preceded you. If you can
do that we think you too will understand why we think Rosella is so special.
Staying here makes you feel like you're a million miles away but, in reality, you're right down the road from anything you may need. The view is outstanding, the accommodations warm and comfortable.
Communication with the owner was very prompt.
We will absolutely stay here again!
The view is amazing! We had some issues with the property while we were there. However, Bob was great at responding and trying to take care of the situation. One thing to note...the lake is very pretty and peaceful during the week. However, due to the dams, there is quite a strong current. This would not be a good lake for children to swim in off the dock. As adults, we even had to hold onto the dock to keep from floating away. Overall, a relaxing place with a pretty view.
We had a wonderful stay at Rosella! Place was just great! Mr Rudolph really thought of the small details to creat a great experience and let you feel at home. We loved the place and definitely returning again soon. Our only complaint was that we had to leave:) Thank you so much for the great stay!
Bob really goes out of his way to make sure you have a great vacation, by matching your personality and vacation style to those of the others guests renting the duplex. He wants everyone to have a 5-star stay, and he'll suggest rescheduling if it's not a good fit. I was very impressed.
This place is lovely and has just about everything you could ask for. We've stayed here twice and had a great experience both times. The views are spectacular. Close to stores and minutes from downtown Charlotte.
This location is very convenient to downtown, National Whitewater Center, Paramount Carowinds and the Charlotte Motor Speedway. All are within 15 min. A unique feature to this property is that we have a boat rental company that provides your choice of either a pontoon boat or ski boat right from the dock in front of the house. Prices range from $35-$50 per day. Please inquire for additional details.
Please note We are struggling to continue to offer
the boats. We have had guests that over estimated
their nautical expertise and have had numerous accidents and mechanical break downs due to inexperience. We will have to have a large deposit
to secure a boat and please be honest about your
experience level. I am more than glad to take you
out and show you the ropes. Boats will be available
as it is mechanically possible.
