About the property

4 bedroom, 2 bath with swimming, boating and fishing access right out your door

Have you ever wanted to retire on or have full time access to a beautiful home on the lake? This listing in the Wyboo area of Santee is a beautiful 2000sqft family friendly cottage and just where you would dream your waterfront home to be! Beginning April 2018 this property will move into the LONG TERM LEASE grouping and you will love this spot! Large moss draped oaks meander to the lakefront boat dock and shallow, SANDY bottom swimming area. Our completely furnished non-smoking home offers 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a main family room and smaller men's den and a large rustic table for the whole family to gather around. It's ceiling to floor glassed sun room is perfectly completed with lazy, white lowcountry rocking chairs. You are welcomed with an inviting open floor plan in the main living area, wet bar, lakeside deck, large storage garage for boats and jet skis, small storage barn for chairs, basketball goal and newly renovated dock. A little over an hour from historical Charleston by car, 15 minutes off I-95, and a starting point for a unique and utterly gorgeous day boat trip through the Tailrace Canal, Santee Cooper locks, and the famed inner coastal waterway of SC as you venture to Charleston by water. Owners can give you all the information you will need to set out on your adventure if you choose some of these options. A neighborhood boat ramp is less than a mile away and can launch most boats as long as Santee Cooper has not let the water levels down (sometimes done in the Fall to repair docks) . If this happens to be the case when you rent we can guide you to another ramp. So as you can see, It's all here.

The golfer will value the area's many waterfront courses but boating, swimming, legendary fishing spots featured on television and any imagined water sport have got to be the main attractions! There are several small local restaurants to pull up to by boat or car. However, if your fresh catch of the day calls your name just throw it on the provided charcoal grill for dinner!

If you want a slower pace for a week, month, or even longer this is your spot for complete and total relaxation when combined with as much fun and fresh fish as you want to have. You are the driver in this cottage! Slow and steady or fun and active! Look at the pictures provided and, especially for the price, you won't be able to choose a better value and experience with the ability to just walk to the bottom of your yard and be in the water swimming or loading the boat. Can't get any better on this lake. Enjoy!

Great views, and outstanding hospitality!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely Christmas here! The views were breathtaking, and Carolyn is an amazing host!! We saw blue heron and egret, and the squirrels were extra adorable and playful out here! We so wished we didn’t have to cut it short due to work, but Carolyn was impeccably understanding and accommodating when that issue arose. We would not hesitate to rent from her again and recommend her to prospective guests. The house worked well for us, and we've already told other family members from Sumter about it too! Thanks again for everything, Carolyn!

Perfect Lake Marion Lakehouse

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home on Lake Marion made our week long vacation awesome.

We have stayed all over Lake Marion for years and this property is definitely up to par.

The owners are friendly and easy to deal with and had great communications throughout our experience.

Everything was clean and working in the home during our trip.

The lakefront has sandy bottom and our kids loved swimming there.

We caught several large catfish and tons of smaller fish.

We liked that the home was positioned in an inlet which means there was not a ton of boat traffic and boat waves to disturb you but still very close to the main lake area.

While we were on our trip we visited several restaurants.

You can get to Fayz by boat or visit Red's right around the corner for some great food.

Manning, SC is fairly close by with Wal-Mart for groceries as well as other city type restaurants and services.

One night we visited Captains Quarters in Santee, SC for and excellent dinner.

Make sure you check for reservation requirements before you go to any of these popular local restaurants.

AT&T cell service is the only provider in this area of the lake that will work so we usually bring a prepaid phone with us. You can buy them in Wal-Mart in Manning rather cheaply. It had a hotspot for wi-fi built in which was used quite a lot. In this manner I was able to vacation and keep up with work from the laptop.

We brought our pontoon boat and the dock worked well for it's use.

There is a public landing close to the property but the channel is tight which made loading a pontoon boat a little more difficult than normal. For another option try Scarborrough's Landing.

After we left the owner contacted us to let us know we left some things behind and were nice enough to arrange shipment of the items back to us.

Overall our experience was a great one from start to finish and I would recommend this property and it's owners to anyone asking.

Relaxing & Family Friendly Lakefront Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and enjoyed ourselves so much. The floor plan is open and ideal for families. The house is beautiful, clean and well furnished. After a full day of sun & fun on the boat our afternoons were spent in the sunroom watching boats go by. Ideal location for accessing the lake. We grilled, cooked meals in the kitchen, fished off the dock, tubing, swimming, played basketball (basketball goal/ball available). The owners were super friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Beautiful lake views!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great weekend with family. The property has beautiful views of the lake and room for all of us. We utilized the dock to tie off a pontoon we rented from the marina just around the corner on the lake as well as a small fishing boat we brought with us. The property does not have any wifi and no cell reception inside of the house for Verizon; we were informed of this before hand though and used the weekend to relax and "unplug" and it was perfect. Everyone had a great time, even found some trees to hang a couple hammocks! Fished off the dock, and watched the geese visit in the mornings. Coffee on the back porch every morning was a treat. The owners are very nice and we were able to contact them with any questions or concerns. This is a new rental and they are working out any kinks and appreciate any feedback, we are hoping they continue to rent and look forward to booking with them again in the future. Thank you for opening up your home to us like family.

Es war wunderbar!

  • 5 of 5

It was not only a house it was a home for us! Thank you!

About Carolyn Kight

We were originally a family of 5 and purchased our Lake Marion home when our 3 children were still in high school. Our thoughts were that it would be a place to steal them away from all their commitments and social schedules in Sumter and spend some very precious time with them before the empty nest became a reality. We did manage to get a few of those weekends before their friends discovered the fun we were having there. After that happened the hidden secret was over. We began entertaining not just 3 children but their friends and, of course, our families. At one point, after our sons went away to the Citadel, we found ourselves hosting so many cadets just wanting a good meal and sleep that we had to step over air mattresses to get to the kitchen. Those boys became our "Citadel Sons" and I wish we could have every night and day with those air mattresses back! I don't know how many tanks of gas we depleted in our boat during those years but it was worth every drop to see those boys ski, tube, eat, fish, tell stories and just laugh! When my daughter had friends down it was usually beach chairs, bikinis, radios, suntan lotion and giggles.

Now we have added 2 daughter's in love, one cockapoo, 3 grand dogs and soon to be 4 grandchildren! Everyone is spread all over the country from Florida to Colorado to Charleston so the big family gatherings are few and far between. As a result, our home can now be shared with all of you, our renters. Greg and I hope each of you enjoy the fruits of Lake Marion as much as we have in the 11 years God has blessed us with the opportunity to come.

Carolyn Kight purchased this house in 2006

What makes this house unique

Greg and I began looking for a vacation home on the lake after a Sunday afternoon drive one weekend. We had enjoyed boating days with friends many times but had only dreamed of owning a place. You know how it goes... we will make an appointment with an agent to see a house or two... not that we are really serious, but it would be a fun thing to do!

So call an agent we did. Our guy took us to 2 houses that just seemed like houses we would live in in our home town... brick, no landscaping, no personality, just blah. I remember we were giving those looks to each other that said we needed to head back home when our agent said let me show you one more house. It hasn't come on the market yet but the owner just called me about it. Okay what would it hurt, right? I'm not exaggerating when I say the first step inside the door had me. I could see all the way through the house, past moss draped oak trees all the way down to the waterfront. It was special to say the least. I still have that "take my breath away" feeling every time I walk through the front door to this day. It's a lake house, a true lake house that sits up high off the back and has the most wonderful view and feeling. My favorite spot is a small twin daybed in the sun room where I can put my feet up with a good book, take a nap under the humming of a window a/c unit, or just sit and watch the jet skis and pontoons roll by. I love that spot and I put dibs on it the first time we walked through the front door that day. We know you will love our little piece of Lowcountry heaven, too. Please let us know where the spot is that you called dibs on the first time you walked in!

Nearest Restaurant
2 Miles
Scarbourgh's (lunch) Red's (lunch/dinner)
Car: necessary

If you want a city vacation this is not the place. Charleston, however, is a little over an hour away by car and a 3 to 4 hour boat trip down the inner coastal waterway. Our Santee/ Lake Marion is laid back relaxation with nature just outside your door. If you love water and water sports you've hit the jackpot!

For restaurants try Scarbourgh's if you want to pull up by boat. There actually are several small lunch places you can pull up to but this is the closest to us. Red's is a good lunch and dinner place nearby. Live music most Friday and Saturday nights. Great southern Sunday buffet. If you want seafood, Captain's Quarters in the town of Santee about 30 min. away. Our favorite is Lonestar also near the town of Santee. It is in old restored mercantile buildings and has live bluegrass music on Friday and Saturday nights. The southern cooking is fantastic! Tomato pie and fried chicken are to die for! They also have BBQ!
