This unique feeling of Big Sur without the long drive make this property an ideal spot for those who wish to feel away, yet are close to all the action Carmel by the Sea and the Monterey Peninsula have to offer. ATT Golf, Concours de' Elegance, Laguna Seca, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Point Lobos, Nepenthe, Cafe Rustica, wine tasting, golf, sightseeing, hiking on the property. We are in a dynamic micro climate rich with wildlife and a very dynamic vegetation feeling like Big Sur and Africa on this property. We are set against The Preserve which offers unlimited vistas and adventures.
The setting, the ease of access to everything, the delicious dinner parties, the warm sun on the mountain when downtown Carmel is fogged in, the star gazing from the hot tub or big rap around deck and a renovated Safeway just a few minutes away make this a great place to stay. Located next to Safeway, Jeffrey's Cafe is a personal favorite and has an always fresh, healthy, delicious menu for breakfast and lunch should you like to zip down the hill. Also Cafe Rustica in Carmel Village is outstanding for supper though seven miles further into Carmel Valley Village.
Came to stay at Thyme's place with some ladies to get out of the city and relax, and wow-this place did not disappoint! Not only is the house comfortable enough so that nobody was in each other's way, but the views and peaceful sounds were just what we needed. We all slept so well; every bed was so comfy! Waking up was easy, having coffee on the beautiful deck with views of nothing but tree tops and greenery. If you choose to stay in, cooking is a breeze, as Thyme has stocked the kitchen with anything you could possibly need. If you choose to go into town, it's only about a 10 minute drive into Carmel-by-the-Sea, but honestly, you may not want to. The only negative part of the house was leaving it! We could have stayed the rest of the month!!
Awesome property!! It felt like we were at Nepenthe or Post Ranch in Big Sur. I took the family up for a Carmel get away and the property did not disappoint. The very special vibe here encouraged the kids to get off of their screens and participate in hikes, games, hot tub, cards, etc. The views are much more spectacular than the pictures can capture. The deck is a very special spot. The property was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was fully equipped and there was plenty of firewood provided. The house is uniquely and tastefully decorated. The owner left very clear instruction on all aspects of the visit. He was also very nice about answering questions and providing recommendations. It is just a short drive down the hill to Carmel Valley and not far to Carmel by the Sea. We went to both each day for all that they have to offer.
A fantastic experience all around. I highly recommend this property and owner!!
This place was beyond words! Amazing... I took my new fiancé and a few guests to enjoy this secluded spot, and, wow... We didn't know what we were in for. Such an awesome place. Two fire places, a private jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom, so spacious, and the hot tub... Okay... Drizzle and hot tub works together. We wished we had more time to relax, like a week, but we were only there for the weekend. My party enjoyed the balcony space as we BBQ'd, had a fire, good vibes and all to the back-drop of mountains.
Beyond the house, we drove up to Napenthe, had a great view of the ocean while enjoying great food, and met folks from a local retreat center, Esalen Inst., and made our way back to our gem in the woods.
Thank you! We will be back.
Nine family members ranging in age from 7 to 80 gathered for Thanksgiving in this wonderful place. The house worked very well. The only shortcoming is not enough lighting but all else was perfect. We had a sumptuous Thanksgiving dinner made in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed the house's proximity to many adventures. The home is perfect for a family celebration or romantic getaway.
Not sure what to say about this home. Where do I start. First of all, I am a villa rental owner. So, I speak from many years of experience. Secondarily, my family does a reunion once a year. We have been renting nice villas, all over the country, for many years now. So, we have a reference point, with which to work.
Usually we are greeted at the door by either the owner or the manager. That is certainly how I handle my villa rental. A hour spent as an orientation is always helpful. We showed up, and could not find the keys. We were told there was a maintenance man on premises. I started searching for him, to find the way into the house. It turned out, he was a tenant, who lived below the house! Imagine our surprise. We were told we were renting a private home, and not a duplex. Tenant has occasional parties. House had not been properly cleaned. Dust everywhere. Spiders and bugs in the bathtub and shower. Grimy. We called the owner, and he acted very surprised. He said he would send out the house cleaner. He is a Hollywood actor, and he acts like one. A real prima donna type.
1. We were given poor directions to the house. It is up a long canyon, and is hard to find. Though once you do get there, it is very quiet and peaceful.
2. The window look out onto a lovely canyon. But, the large plate glass windows were absolutely filthy. All of the other windows were filthy.
3. There was no safe in the house.
4. There was no manual, book, or instructions. Owner felt very unprepared for our arrival.
5. There was very, very poor lighting in every room. No money has been spent on lighting. Barely any lamps, and if there were any, they were of the IKEA variety.
6. Lack of quality kitchen equipment. The stove was nice. Decent refrigerator, halfway stocked with the owners own stuff. But, little in the way of decent pots and pans, or cooking supplies or equipment. I might suggest bringing your own.
7. No home theatre. This is a pet peeve of mine. In our villa we have a $13,000 home theatre. I do not expect this much, but I do expect something. He had an antique flat screen, with a horrendous disfiguration on it. No home theatre at all. No excuse for this, at this kind of nightly rate. Especially from a guy who is in the movie biz. He tells us he has since replaced the TV. But, I doubt there is anything in the way of a home theatre yet.
This is a very detached owner, who does not have alot of pride in his house.
What an amazing beautiful home In the hills of Carmel valley- every bedroom was tastefully decorated- everything in the home was clean and put together nicely. The grounds were immaculate.. Dealing with the owner was also very easy and he was so accommodating. I love this home and truly can't wait to visit again.... Thank you Thyme for such a wonderful weekend!!!
