A three bedroom Nantucket summer cottage is a wonderful addition to Madaket, a unique destination on Nantucket. In 2012 - the home had a complete renovation. Located on a quiet country road within a half mile to the nearest beach and within a mile of Madaket beach. It is a serene setting that allows for enjoyment of the natural fauna and flora of Hither Creek not to mention a family of elegant and graceful swans that call this place home!
An open floor plan is a welcome concept for gatherings and entertainment; enter the kitchen and dining area and family room. There are sliders in the family room that lead to a three season porch which allow for quiet areas to relax and enjoy magnificent Madaket sunsets. If you are so inclined Millie’s restaurant is very accessible to enjoy live music and great food in a relaxed atmosphere. Central AC.
First floor: Open plan kitchen with modern amenities, living room and separate dining nook; sliders off the kitchen / family room that open to a three season porch. Queen bedroom with full bathroom
Second Floor: Master bedroom with king bed with sun deck allowing for beautiful views of Madaket. The second room has twin bed(s) ; shared hallway bath with shower.
Our family inherited this property in a state of disrepair. In late 2012 we redesigned the floor plan to enhance the living space and completely re-rehabbed and redecorated the entire property.
Linda Reith purchased this house in 2006
The location is great, close to pristine beaches and public transportation. The environment is quiet and natural but yet still close enough to enjoy fine dining and the best shopping Nantucket has to offer.
It is not unusual for you to see a deer, rabbits or beautiful swans in Hither Creek!
This home was a "pleaser"! We knew the minute we walked in that we made the right choice of fall rental. We enjoyed everthing about it!There was plenty of space for 6 adults!Although we spent most of our time gathered around the kitchen which was set up very easy to find everything needed. Each room had a TV!Bathrooms and showers very clean.Masterbed room was my favorite slept great.I would love to return!
This home was beautifully updated and very spacious and comfortable for a group of 6 (plus 2 dogs!). We loved the location-close enough to walk to the beach, but very quiet and private. The owner was extremely helpful and easy to work with. We would highly recommend this home and hope to stay here again next year!
We had a fabulous week on Nantucket and this beautiful home was perfect. We have a large family ( my husband and I, 5 kiddos and a dog!) and we had plenty of room here. We cooked "at home" most nights and I found the kitchen to be well equipped. The pantry is stocked with most staples for us to use, with the request to replace anything you finish. That is a huge convenience!
The house itself has been redone recently and is beautiful. It is nicely decorated, immaculately clean and very comfortable. The owner is a pleasure to work with. I cant recommend this property highly enough.
This was our first visit to Nantucket and absolutely adored every aspect of it. But, the best part of the trip was this lovely home. It truly made for a stunning, memorable trip.
It was my husband, me, and our 9 month old son in the home. Everything was very nicely appointed, so comfortable and clean. The home was beautifully decorated to fit with the beach house/island motif, but very classy.
One of the things I really enjoyed and which I thought was different was that staples were kept in the fridge and pantry and we were asked to replace them if we finished them. We stay in 4-5 rental homes a year and I had never seen anything like this before. It made everything so much easier and nicer to not have to worry about buying ketchup, or spices, or flour or whatever staples we may have needed. I also hate buying those items and throwing them away after a week - so wasteful! So this was very appreciated.
The owners also had several baby items which made it easier for us (less to bring or rent). This included a booster/high chair and a collapsible crib. Loved this!
Also, the home is so quiet and in a neighborhood, rather than surrounded by a bunch of other rental homes. It truly felt like we were residents rather than guests. We were able to meet some of the neighbors and really enjoyed that experience.
You can look up the location of the home on a maps app to see that it is far from Nantucket town, but we actually enjoyed this aspect and didn't find it to be a hassle at all.
Finally, we watched the sunset almost every night from the bedroom deck. With a cup of tea (for me) or wine (for him) we really felt like we were able to relax and enjoy our trip.
We definitely suggest renting this home!! Its a beauty, the owners are super easy going and the location is unbelievable.
We have been coming to the island for many years but never stayed in Madaket. Linda and Norm the owners are wonderful and did a fabulous job with the house renovation. We had the pleasure of meeting them upon our arrival. We stayed at the home for 2 weeks in July with our teenage son and a friend. The owners permitted our two non-shedding dogs to join us and even left us doggie towels.
The house is nicely laid out- there is a bedroom on the first floor, full bath, kitchen/dinning (fully stocked with the essentials) and two seating areas. The boys had one room to watch tv and we had the other sitting area to read. There was even a sunroom with table to enjoy the Nantucket breeze and harbor views. The second floor has the master bedroom which opens to a deck that was a great location to enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the beautiful Madaket sunsets. The third bedroom was spacious and had two twin beds. Both rooms shared a full bathroom with bench seat in the shower, tastefully tiled with lush towels.
The basement has a washer and dryer and there is a garage to store the bikes and beach gear.
The house came with 5 bicycles, beach chairs, and coolers. Madaket beach is a short walk ~15 minutes (even shorter by bike). In addition, there was a private beach ~10 minutes on the harbor side which was a great place for walking the dogs in the evening. The boys took the bus into town, the NRTA stop is a short 2 minute walk (fare $2.00). Millie’s deli and restaurant is also a short walk from the house and beach.
During our stay one of the appliances needed repair for which the owner scheduled the appointment; however, prior to giving out the security code to the service man she checked with us to see if it was acceptable. Not many people would take this approach, it was very kind!
We enjoyed our stay tremendously, the location was quiet, and we look forward to future stays!
Just finishing up our week at this great little house, and agree with the previous reviews. The house is fresh, clean, thoroughly redone and well-equipped, yet not fussy. The owner -- who was pleasant to work with, and provided all the desired information -- also will consider well-mannered dogs, yet the house was not at all "doggy." Also nice that beach towels, chairs, coolers and even bikes are provided -- it allowed us to travel much more lightly this year. If Nantucket fits our summer plans again next year, this will certainly be our house of choice.
Our home is located on a quiet country road overlooking Hither Creek in the unique destination we call Madaket. The public transport system (The Wave) is very accessible to our home and allows guests to explore other areas of the island. Pristine beaches and the amenities of Nantucket town are all close by via the Nantucket bike paths.
