Lisa and Todd live near Baltimore, Maryland but both have paternal roots in the midwest. They love good food, good wine, and slow travel and want to share their love of hedonism with you!
Todd or Lisa purchased this chalet in 2012
My grandfather Edward bought this property around 1970 and it passed to my father in 2004. My father and I cleared the home site together in 2008 in preparation for my parents to build but they both passed away before construction could begin. Lisa and I had fallen in love with the area and decided to continue their plans to build a home here in Door County. My mother named it Five Birches after the grove of birch trees outside the master bedroom.
Our favorite things about Five Birches is that it is essentially our own design, the proximity to Fish Creek and the bay, and the private meadow down the trail from the house.
We found the house to be beautiful and welcoming. Had everything we needed. Beautiful setting. We had a great time with good friends and would love to come back.
The home was beautifully maintained. We enjoyed our stay, would have liked a TV in the living room. No blinds in the living room made the afternoons warm and bright, not necessarily bad. It had everything we needed except a few basic. Each bathroom and kitchen was stocked such that it did not accommodate our three night stay. For example each hand soap container have very little soap, one roll of toilet paper per bathroom. Very inconvenient.
Five Birches is a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. There wasn't one thing I can think of that the owners didn't have in this home, from a sewing kit to golf clubs! We enjoyed a week in Door County & found Five Birches to be in a very convenient location. The home is so comfortable and relaxing. It is perfect for a family or group. We will definitely plan on returning & hoping it can be an annual destination!
Three couples stayed for a long weekend at Five Birches and we couldn't have been happier! Set in a beautiful woods, so you feel secluded yet it is convenient to everything. Spacious, beautifully decorated, a fully stocked kitchen, large deck, firepit for roasting marshmallows and making smores :-) Everything you could ask for in a home away from home! We ended up spending more time at the house than we usually spend when we're staying in Door County because it was so relaxing and enjoyable just to be there and hang out together!!
We've stayed here in early May for several years running (the Door County Half Marathon) and we always love it. The house is very well-appointed, and we particularly enjoy the fire pit out back. Highly recommended!
My family of four stayed at Five Birches this last August while traveling with my sister-in-law's family of four and her two parents. We were looking for a house where we could all stay together, have the cousins play together, cook together, and just hang out together when we were not sightseeing. This was the perfect place! When we drove up, we couldn't believe how beautiful the house and the property were. Everything about the way the house was built and the furnishings in it was quality and we loved spending the week in such surroundings--yet the house also had such a homey feel. The sleeping arrangements were perfect for us. We each had a room and the two girl cousins shared the adorable bedroom with twin beds and the boy cousins slept in the loft with all the games and TV. The beds were unbelievably comfortable and the house extremely clean. The house was stocked with everything you could ever need or want. They even had ibuprofen. They had everything you would ever need for cooking in the kitchen and a beautiful Keurig coffee maker as well as a regular coffee pot. We looked forward to hanging out when we got "home" at the end of the day. The view out the living room window (a great wall of glass) was beautiful. They made a wood chip path down to a fire pit out back and we had a wonderful campfire there (wood complimentary). The owner, Todd, was very professional yet extremely nice as well. He text us just after we checked in to make sure all was well. He had emailed us a booklet about the house and the area with tons of info about activities and restaurants etc. The location of the house was perfect. We drove all around Door County the week we stayed there and Fish Creek would have been our first choice even after seeing the rest of the area. We were very central to everything and there was a lot to do in Fish Creek itself. We were super close to Penninsula State Park where we rented kayaks and spent time on the beach. It was an easy drive to the Lake Michigan side of the penninsula too. There we rented a boat in Bailey's Harbour and snorkeled over a ship wreck and had lunch at PC Junction which is a great place for kids. We viewed the meteor shower in Newport State Park one night, attended a fish boil at the White Gull Inn, wine and cheese tasted, and took a day trip to see Lambeau stadium and the Green Bay Packers head to practice via riding kid's bikes to the practice venue. We would love to come back!
Our first time in Door County and we loved Five Birches. Fully stocked kitchen where we cooked numerous meals (but we did enjoy some great meals out at local restaurants including a fish boil), the deck, wonderful beds and other first rate accommodations. The biking, hiking, light houses and quaint coastal towns made our week really enjoyable and then retreating to the house to read and relax - just great! Would definitely return! Too much to do in one week!
