About the property

6 bedroomed house/villa, with 2 kitchens and 5 bathrooms, in a quiet locality.

Mas le Moulin is a spacious, well-appointed 6-bedroom country house with a private pool, 5 minutes walk from the local village of Latour bas Elne, and 5 minutes drive from the Mediterranean. It offers space and tranquility, but it is also very convenient for the local shops and restaurants. The old stone-built house (perhaps 10th century) is situated in its own grounds of mature gardens, with two dining terraces and a rooftop terrace with views of the nearby Pyrenees. The property consists of two adjoining, interconnecting houses, which can be independent. Each has its own kitchen and terrace, bedrooms and bathrooms. In the extensive grounds, there is a 33 foot (10 metre) floodlit, solar-heated pool, swing, boulodrome and table-tennis. The wide sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are only a short car drive away, down a quiet leafy lane, whilst the holiday resorts of Argeles-sur-Mer and St Cyprien are about 10 minutes drive.

About Lesley or Peter Whitfield

When we first moved here with our two children, the land had lots of apricot trees, and that's what we did for about 6 years, whilst we restored the house. We first of all started letting half the house (we still can), and as our children slowly left home, we began to let the whole house. We love enabling people to explore this lovely area, or just relax around the pool and our gardens

Lesley or Peter Whitfield purchased this house in 1988

Spacious Property with Lovely Heated Pool

  • 4 of 5

We booked this property at short notice and from our initial enquiry to the end of the let, Lesley and Peter, a lovely couple, were very helpful. The house, as described, was very spacious but the ‘pièce de résistance’ was the heated pool. We didn’t need or wish to venture very far, as we had everything we wanted at the house, so it was just out for lunches at the local restaurants or stocking up with fresh food at the two supermarkets in the village. But for those who want to explore there is plenty in the area, including the nearby coast.

We had our two energetic dogs with us and they were in their element in the large grounds, where they enjoyed exploring and having the ball thrown long distances for them. They weren’t so sure about the donkey at the bottom of the garden in the field next door, but the adults in the party, two of us, loved it!

All in all a very good find, and if there were more staying I am sure they wouldn’t be falling over each other with the 2 kitchens, 2 lounges and 6 bedrooms. Also there is a good WiFi signal, and we were able to watch UK TV programmes and listen to the radio etc via our tablets.

Unser Ferien-Traumhaus

  • 5 of 5

A Fantastic Holiday Home

  • 5 of 5

This property was ideal for our two families and a few friends--we had up to 10 people at one time and there was lots of space. It is basically two houses with 3 bedrooms in each and lots of showers and toilets. The two large kitchens worked very well for meal preps. The garden is absolutely wonderful--full of flowers and herbs with a nice sized heated pool. Two large outdoor eating areas- one a great sun trap in the morning the other had good shade in the sun. TV with English channels and wireless internet worked well. The location is ideal-felt like we were in the quiet country side but only a 10 minute walk to a supermarket. Ten minute drives to the beach, Argeles., St Cyprien and Elne [cloisters not to be missed]. We particularly enjoyed trips to Port Vendras, Collioure, BsM, Ceret [all less tan 30 minutes drive] and the Dali Museum [less than 1hr away]. The owners Peter and Lesley were delightful and very helpful. I would recommend this property to anyone.

Perfect Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The Mas du Moulin was a perfect holiday home. The house is imposing and welcoming at the same time. The rooms are light and airy even in the heat of a summer day and are comfortable and furnished with simple good taste. Outside there are terraces, sunny and shady, for dining or dosing with a book and a glass of wine; a splendid garden with meadows; and a super pool for cooling off.

The owners, Lesley and Peter, are friendly and welcoming and will fill you in on all the local attractions and activities, restaurants and superrmarkets. It's only a few minutes to the beach. Perpignan is a bustling city (half an hour's drive). We went one day to Céret, a charming little town in the foothills of the Pyrenees, with a famous modern art gallery (1 hour). And one day we drove down into Spain (also 1 hour) which has such a different atmosphere that it felt like a holiday from our holiday.

Enjoy! We did.

Great holiday!

  • 5 of 5

On holiday with friends it was great to have our own place each, but also space to all be together. The pool is fantastic and it'shard to leave and there is lots of space for the children outside. It was a real outdoor holiday for us with wonderful weather, so we could eat all the meals outside. Everything is close by; shops, the beach etc and yet at the house you feel totally secluded.

Well done Leslie and Peter!!

We will no doubt be back!!

de belles vacances Mas le moulin

  • 5 of 5

Car: recommended

Latour bas Elne is a small agricultural village on the Roussillion plain, very near the Mediterranean. It has its own restaurants and shops, and is also conveniently situated between the historic cathedral town of Elne, and the resort of St Cyprien plage. Our local beach is wide and sandy, and features the Nature Reserve of Mas Larrieu, around the mouth of the River Tech. The lively resort of Argeles is not far, as are the picturesque ports of Collioure and Port Vendres, which nestle in the bays where the Pyrénées meet the sea. Inland, the Canigou (2785 metres, about 10,000 feet) dominates the plain, and it has several excellent walks. Other excursions include the Modern Art Museum of Ceret, the Salvador Dali Museum in Figueras, Spain, the Cathar castles of the Corbiere, the Palace of the Kings of Majorca in Perpignan, and the little Yellow Train up to the Pyrenees. Or else you could just sit around the pool and relax!

Other Activities: Aquapark, nudist beach,
