About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, sleeps 7 guests

Private and exclusive. Designed by the owner/architect, the house is located in the sought-after residential area of Ebisu/Meguro. Family-friendly in terms of layout, spaciousness, and location. Open and airy with natural lights and colors throughout, the house is a beautiful expression of clean minimalism with modern yet warm aesthetic.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, yet with easy accessibility to various restaurants, shops, and supermarkets. Walk within minutes to Westin Hotel (an airport Limousine Bus stop to/from airports), subway stations (Ebisu Station and Meguro Station with multiple subway lines, including JR Yamanote Line directly to popular designations without transfers), 6 supermarkets, convenience stores, , Ebisu Garden Place, and Mitsukoshi Department Store (with an upscale food market on the B2 level) . One stop to Shibuya and four stops to Shinjuku on JR Yamanote Line. Trendy Daikanyama T-Site is just a 5-min taxi ride away.

Area map with recommendations to neighborhood restaurants/supermarkets will be provided.

The house is constructed with reinforced concrete in 2009 for our family. Enjoy all three floors of spacious living space, with two full baths on separate levels for complete privacy (and no more queuing for the bathroom while on vacation!). A truly modern, wonderfully appointed house in the heart of Tokyo! Perfect for families looking for comfort and a rare luxury staying in a single family home.

About Lillian

We moved to Tokyo a few years ago from the U.S.. Being an architect, we decided to build our own house there with a layout and atmosphere that best suit our life style by combining the western style with Japanese elements.

Lillian purchased this house in 2009

Why Lillian chose Japan

We absolutely love the location and this lovely neighborhood. Unlike most typical central Tokyo houses, we have a unique lot with openness and sunlight from all directions. We designed and built our home just over in 2009 and it has been immaculately maintained. The house has been published in several architectural/ interior magazines and has won an architectural design award. Due to our move, we are pleased to offer it to travelers visiting Tokyo.

What makes this house unique

Other than the superb location, we enjoyed the light-filled spaces throughout the house with modern yet warm ambiance. The Meguro River nearby is a very popular cherry blossom destination with spectacular view of the sakura trees along the river. Strolling or jogging along the canal is another activity to enjoy. We especially love the convenience of walking to Ebisu Garden Place with the spacious ground for kids to run around and for family dining with endless choices. Meguro Station area offers more local/traditional food and atmosphere. You can also walk to the trendy Nakameguro/Daikanyama area within 15-20 minutes. Transportation from and to the airports is extremely easy as you can walk to Westin Hotel (a limousine bus stop) at Ebisu Garden Place in 5 minutes from the house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Lillian,

thank you very much, we had a great time in Tokyo (and Japan) and the house was just perfect in every respect. We would love to come back and will certainly pass on the details to anyone looking for accomodation in Tokyo.

Thanks and regards,

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Could not have been a better experience from booking through our stay! Lillian was extremely accommodating, especially since it it was a last minute booking. She immediately responded to every question and detail. I agree with all comments from previous posts. We loved the quiet, classy neighborhood, away from the crowded areas of Tokyo, but yet extremely accessible to both Ebisu and Meguro Stations. Very spacious, modern, clean. Favorite nearby area is Daikanyama. We will be recommending Lillian and Vincent's Beautiful Mita to all who want the perfect place in Tokyo. Thank you for our wonderful stay!

Lovely home in Meguro

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful three level home which was perfect for our family of four (but it could easily accommodate more). Nice size for Japan, close to the Meguro station with plenty of surrounding eateries. Bonus was the gorgeous cherry blossoms along the nearby Meguro River!

Lovely Place but not as advertised

  • 3 of 5

The home is lovely, clean and well-maintained. The neighborhood is very quite and safe. My issues wirh the place is that it does not disclose everything. It is advertised to accomadte up to six, people, while that is sort of true,. It does not fit six adults comfotably. There is some enough beds to sleep 3 adults comfortably and two kids in bunk beds. We had a party of 5 adults. Three were able to sleep in beds and two slept on the floor on a futon. Originally we had six in our party (three couples) if the sixth person came not sure were would put inem. In the bunk bed I guess. The house is also located on a steep hill. The owners did not reveal that until too late to cancel. There is another route to take with a shorter steep hill but if you have anyone in your party with mobility issues, this is not the house for you. There are lot of stairs in home, not that close to train station and home located On a steep incline. There is no avoiding going up hill to get to train or grocery stores. There are a lot of grocery and convenience stores in the area but lacks any good restaurantss or might life.

I think the home would be ideal for a family with a teenager and one or two younger kids. If traveling with more than three adults or teenagers, find somewhere else, otherwise might be sleeping on the floor.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to submit your review. We regret that you were not completely satisfied with the house, and will take your feedback into consideration to improve our listing. Just a few notes to respond to the issued you addressed. The house was designed with families in mind, although we do have guests that travel as a group of friends. The 3 bedrooms upstairs are properly furnished with a queen bed, a single bed, and a bunk bed. The downstairs tatami room should sleep two guests on futons, which is customary in Japan. The information about the tatami room is properly disclosed in the description of the listing. It is a rare find to rent a single family house, as the vast majority of vacation rentals in Tokyo are apartments. I believe your booking was for 4 adults from your booking request and the rental agreement, therefore I did not stress the fact about the tatami room. We also have all the photos of all bedrooms in the listing. Due to the space constraint in central Tokyo, a single family home often needs to be on several levels (thus 2 sets of stairs) to incorporate 4 bedrooms. As for the house being located on a hill, we will add this disclosure into the description. Since several past guests have included this in their reviews, as well as the directions we sent, we have not included this note. Finally, our house is indeed a 7-min. walk for Meguro Station, and our guests have been extremely happy about the proximity and convenience. Our guests have also been impressed with the number of nearby restaurants in Meguro and Ebisu. (The restaurants suggestions are included in the description.) We are sorry that you were not able to find ones to your liking. Thanks again for your feedback and we are sorry that the house didn't meet your needs completely.

Neighborhood privacy yet close to the Train Station

  • 5 of 5

First of all, we loved this house. Lovely modern 3 story single family home, decorated in minimalist style, with traditional Japanese home decor accents ( paper walls and tatami mats) on the lower floor. Sufficient bathroom space but only for one person at a time on the lower level. Hot water worked well and water pressure was very good. Modern clean bathrooms. Easy to use washer / dryer with easy-to-read "visual icon" instructions. Kitchen seats 7 but we suggest that the kitchen needs to be resupplied with glasses, flatware and settings for 7. This was our only disappointment as we cooked in and had friends for dinner and it was not possible to find matching sets for 7 place settings. All of the kitchen appliances worked well. The house is on a hill so it could be difficult for an elderly person to walk up or down the hill to the flat crossroads, but this is perfect for a healthy family with or without children. No traffic on the streets and you get a neighborhood "feeling" tucked back off of the main streets. Many different restaurants to choose from, in only a 10 minute walk, with various price points so if you wish to eat out, you are in luck with many choices. We sampled a lot of small, family-managed restaurants. If you wish to eat in, there is a nearby supermarket one level down in the train station with a lot of variety in food and alcohol. There are also numerous small convenience stores all around the neighborhood. We gave our parents the upstairs bedrooms with western beds and we (2 of us) slept on the tatami mats in the lower floor for 5 nights. While one of us had lived in Japan for 8 years when growing up, it is an experience to sleep on the floor if one has never done it, but it is not the most comfortable way to experience Japanese culture so be prepared, and forewarned, even with multiple covers to put on top of the tatami mats. There is ample shelf space for clothes and a moveable rack for hanging clothes on the lower floor in the tatami mat room. Additional bed padding might make the tatami-mat-sleeping-experience more comfortable for guests. Because of the location of the house on the hill, we recommend a taxi from the train station rather than try to walk up or down hill with luggage upon arrival. The taxi money spent will be worth it. Note that there are two equidistant routes from the Train Station to the house and one is downhill then uphill and the other is just downhill. Walking time is the same

Great place to stay in Tokyo!

  • 5 of 5

The designer house was just right for two families of 7. While the house was great, the hospitality of our host Lillian was even better. She was there to meet us at check-in and was very thorough in covering all our requirements. During our stay, we had several queries and she was very prompt in replying to us. She even responded to my last minute request to help book taxis to the monorail station. While it was not successful, I appreciated her efforts as she called up many taxi companies to help us. I would recommend this house to everyone visiting Tokyo.

Great place for our family of 5. Nice location between meguro and ebisu stations. Also very close to the Westin hotel shuttle bus to and from Narita airport. Would definitely recommend this house for a stay in Tokyo.
