The Depot House consists of a remnant of the former Wellborn community railroad depot, a few miles south of College Station. This depot building has an interesting history as it is situated at its third location. The original building consisted of a station agent’s office and two waiting rooms (white and colored) and a dock height freight warehouse section. Unfortunately no photographs of The Depot in its original location have been found. In 1930 the railroad abandoned service stops in Wellborn and The Depot was sold as surplus property to be removed from the site. Due to its size, the building was separated into two sections for placement at a local farm located at-the-then outskirts of College Station. At the farm, which is now the location of the shopping center at South Texas Avenue and Southwest Parkway a large cattle shed was constructed to connect the two sections. The freight section was used as a hay barn [now the living room] with the office-waiting room building [now The Depot’s] used for general farm storage. The Depot continued in this use until 1970 when the southerly growth of College Station dictated that the farm would be absorbed and it was purchased by the present owner as a real estate development project. As the development got underway it became obvious that some or all of the building deserved to be preserved so it was decided to move the freight section with the office-waiting room section salvaged for parts used in the remodeling. The property originally contained forty acres but ten acres were taken in the construction of the SH 47 project. The lake was built along an existing dry creek bed to provide the setting for The Depot House. The Depot House has hosted a lot of happy family reunions, weddings, honeymoons, church retreats, leadership meetings, football game day parties, graduations and holiday business functions.

We had a great time at the Depot. We enjoyed the fishing in the lake and spending time with family and friends after the game. This was an extremely hot weekend and hot game. The A/C stuggled to keep up with the 105 degree weather, but other than that, the weekend was great. I look forward to staying here again in the near future!
The owners were so very accommodating and we enjoyed chatting with them. The reality was true to the listing description. It was clean and the bed was comfortable; the bathroom was well-stocked for guests. It really felt like we were visiting family!
Our family of 4 had a wonderfully relaxing time on the porch and on the dock. We caught some fish and had a campfire with s'mores under the stars. We made trips into College Station for Aggie Baseball games, walks around campus, and dining at our favorite restaurants from our college days. We visited the Bush Museum, as well. The location was perfect for our trips into town and to still feel like we were out in the country. All of us look forward to another visit to The Depot House in the future.
We were in town to visit Texas A&M for Aggieland Saturday and needed a comfortable place that would also welcome our puppies. The Depot House was a perfect fit! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location can't be beat and it is so peaceful! We were able to rest comfortably after a long day of touring the University. Our puppies adored playing outside and ran to their hearts content! The house is adorable and the beds were very comfortable, as well. It was so nice to have a home to come back to, rather than a cramped hotel room. Thanks to Ann and James for a wonderful, relaxing weekend in Aggieland! We hope to spend many more weekends with you in the years to come!
