We are a family with two young boys that have recently returned to this unique, culturally rich city. We love Mid-City and all of the positive changes that have occurred here.
Mark Holcomb purchased this cottage in 2012
The Cottage is a separate structure on a double lot that we purchased at the same time as the master house next to it. When the previous tenant left, we decided to fix it up and give visitors a chance to see New Orleans like a local.
Walking proximity to so many entertainment options, including Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, the Fairgrounds, City Park and Endymion, as well as the ability to easily get downtown to the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, the Central Business District and the Super dome.
Chris was a great guest. He left The Cottage very clean. He was very respectful and didn't make any noise at all. Please come back any time.
We loved this place! Cute little cottage and an awesome location. The owner lives next door and was very friendly. We travel to NOLA often, will definitely stay here again.
Property was clean and is as described. Great location near the City Park and trolley line. The owner is next door if any problems come up and responds to questions right away.
My husband and I are huge fans of Home Away / VRBO and rent places often. With 2 young kids, hotel rooms are pretty awful for anything more than 1-2 nights. We stayed at the Cottage for 3 nights during French Quarter Festival and I loved being next door to the owners. I was arriving a night before my husband with a 5 and 2 year old and although I've been to NOLA many times, it was still nice to know the owners were next door. Between walking / scootering to Winn Dixie for groceries, taking the bus and streetcar downtown, Uber-ing to Uptown, walking to restaurants and being super close to City Park, we didn't need our car at all. Fabulous location! I'm a runner so I easily pieced together a 5 mile run in City Park and a 3.5 mile run around Mid-City. Such a great way to see the area.
As Mark indicates, there is a double bed upstairs in a loft area. I thought my kids would love it...and they did. They both climbed the ladder easily...I went up with them to put them to bed and then I closed a gate at the top just to make sure. They thought it was so incredibly cool and it allowed my husband and I to be downstairs with a kitchen light on that didn't bother them at all. And the highlight for my kids was the play stuff out back...including a trampoline. I signed a waiver and my kids had an absolute blast in the backyard and with Mark's kids.
We used the kitchen some for simple cooking and they had everything we needed. So great to have a fridge and cooking stuff when traveling with kids! The house is right near the streetcar and you do hear it at night as I think it runs until midnight. But...it didn't bother my husband as we are used to a little noise at night. My kids slept great regardless. Plenty of bath towels for our family and they were soft as well!
Great ice cream / snow-cone place two doors down and cool coffee spot about 2 blocks away. If you like City living and walking places and taking public transport, you will not be disappointed at the Cottage in Mid-City.
I'll definitely check out the Cottage in Mid-City next time we need a place to stay in NOLA.
Accurate description. Convenient location, clean and comfortable. It had all we needed for our stay. The owner communicated quickly when needed and has answered additional questions re: our stay. We are staying there again. Great value!
Great location, especially for City Park and the Fest. Backyard with toys for kids, very near the beignets at Morning Call, NO Art Museum, and the Fairgrounds. Streetcar a few blocks away, but the FQ by car or even bike is only minutes away. House is very well equipped. We'll be regulars from now on.
I stayed at the cottage over Memorial Day weekend with two friends. The neighborhood is nice, it's very close to City Park, and very easy to get downtown on the streetcar, which is just across the street. Mark was very helpful. Everything was clean and in great condition. There are no doors in the bathroom, only a curtain, which minimizes the privacy, if that is something that concerns you, but otherwise there were no complaints. I would definitely stay here again if I go back to New Orleans.
