The house is situated in a 4 hundred year old car-free hamlet; the hamlet is called 'Ronco', and is overlooking the lake from a height of 100 metres. Distance to the Swiss border is 3 km to the north, the town of Cannobio is 3 km to the south.
The hamlet consists of about 35 houses, mostly fixed for vacation. Ronco is reached by following the road to St.Agata; after 1 km you leave the car on a private parking lot, then follow a footpath up (about 130m) to arrive at the house. Luggage is carried with a 4x4 motorized trolley.The house has 4 levels; the 1st and 2nd floors have continuous balconies overlooking the lake. Each and every room has a splendid panoramic view on the lake and the surrounding mountains.
A large private garden with swimming pool, chalet, pergola is situated at about 150 metres via a path up from the property.
We had 2 wonderful weeks at the fantastic house with the great fiew over the Lago Maggiore. The village Ronco is very old, wich a great flavour and attitude. Quitness all over the place, because no cars are allowed in Ronco.
It is a short walk from the parking place to the house. The pool is fantastic, the kids had a lot of fun.
We enjoyed the location and will book again.

My family, 2 couples, enjoyed a super week at this house in July 2011. The house indeed has spectacular views with first class terraces for relaxing and dining. Interior accommodation is to a very high standard and the house is well equiped with good quality furnishings. The main bedroom is of a particularly high standard but the second bedroom on the top floor, whilst comfortable, does not benefit from particularly great en-suite facilities - adequate but not outstanding. For preparing meals at home, the kitchen is great and well up to standard, and the dining areas are excellent. The private swimming pool area is remote from the house and is accessed via a fairly steep path which, like the main footpath approach to the house, is absolutley fine so long as you are reasonably fit ! It wasn't a problem to us but should be borne in mind. Once you are in the pool it is a particularly pleasant place to spend time, again with lovely views over the hamlet of Ronco, the lake and towards the mountains. Cannobio is a very pleasant town with a wide range of good restaurants to choose from. It only takes a few minutes to get there although the road is narrow and windy. We have rented many houses on summer vacations but this one, provided you can cope with the physical access aspects, was one of the most interesting and spectacular which we have enjoyed. Our thanks to the owners for letting us enjoy their property and a very memorable and relaxing holiday in a truly beautiful area.
Ronco is a small village situated on a steep mountain slope, 100 metres above Lake Maggiore, within easy reach of about 1 km from the main road(SS34).
Since it is a traffic-free zone, one has to walk the last 130 metres from the parking lot to the house. The mountain behind the village is as high as 2200 metres,almost entirely covered by chestnut trees and extremely suited for mountaineering (all on signposted paths) The crystal clear water of the lake accommodates all kinds of water sports, and the nearby town of Cannobio, with its historical centre and splendid quayside appeals for walkers in search of typical restaurants, wine bars and terraces of all sorts.
Further south,one will find the larger(shopping)city of Intra and of course Stresa with its Borromeo islands. At 15 kms to the north, Ascona where the richest Swiss have their residence, one can wander the small alleys, the lakeside promenade, visit the lido or attend the golf coarse; for boat owners, there is a nice marina.
