Overview

About the property

7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 living rooms and 2 kitchen/dining rooms, sleeps 14-18

The Long House, the Mas and the Petite Maison of the Mas d’Arjac, built in the 18th century, have been completely renovated by local artisans using traditional methods. They now combine charming stone and timbers with modern comforts to provide the perfect holiday home in the heart of the French countryside. Situated at the meeting point of the Aveyron, Lot and Tarn et Garonne departments, Arjac is a perfectly situated base for exploring this most beautiful corner of France. Najac, Villefranche de Rouergue and Saint Antonin Noble Val are all within a short drive. The accommodation to rent consists of the Long House (available all season) with two double bedrooms (one en suite) and a further bedroom with three beds, a kitchen/dining room, a living room and a bathroom. There is a walled patio at the front of the Long House, and a lawn area to the rear.

New for the 2018 High Season (30 June til 1 September only), the very stylish and comfortable Mas (the owner's own home) is also available with one double bedroom with a kingsize bed or twin beds, and a second bedroom with two double beds, a living room, a kitchen/dining room and a bathroom.

In addition, the charming Petite Maison, which consists of a double bedroom on the mezzanine level and a further single room on the ground floor would suit younger guests. Please note that guests in the Petite Maison use the bathroom facilities in either the Mas or the Long House. Guests are invited to make the most of the meadows and woodland which form the Arjac estate. Guests of the Long House, the Mas and the Petite Maison have exclusive use of the 16 x 4m pool and its surrounding terrace.

The Mas d'Arjac is ideal for families and friends travelling together who require a little more space, and the accommodation is only available as one single booking. Howevere, outside the high season dates shown above, the Long House is the main rental unit and can be combined with the the Petite Maison for additional accommodation, on one single booking.

About Simon Clark

Hi, my name is Simon Clark and I am the owner of Le Mas d'Arjac. I love this part of France and am completely in love with Arjac and the surrounding area! After a long career in tour operating working for a couple of Britain's best known travel companies, I decided to retrain as a teacher and have worked in one of the UK's most prestigious schools for the last 10 years as a teacher of French and Spanish. I love my main job, but the 18 weeks holiday a year has given me the chance to develop the Mas d'Arjac into a wonderful holiday home where I have been lucky enough to welcome and look after families from all over the world over the last five years.

Simon Clark purchased this farmhouse in 2007

Why Simon Clark chose Aveyron

The Mas d'Arjac is superbly situated at the head of a valley, surrounded by woodland and fields, and is very green and very peaceful. The collection of stone buildings which forms the Mas is exceptionally picturesque, and the gardens, terraces and pool area are ample and well maintained for the benefit of our guests. I bought the property to create a haven of relaxation and good-living, and also to run a small arts centre in my upcoming retirement based on the recently restored Atelier which is a beautiful recital room and rehearsal space in the grounds. See my own website for details of yoga and other catered specialist weeks in the Spring and Autumn seasons.

What makes this farmhouse unique

I had visited 29 properties in SW France before setting foot in Arjac. It was love at first sight! Most of all I loved its setting, the beauty of the stone buildings and the extensive terraced gardens and pool. Since restoring the Long House and the barn (now the Atelier) the Mas is attracting guests who appreciate the tranquility and high standards of accommodation. They also like the discreet service which we are able to provide (when required) for ideas for visits, restaurants, local markets etc enabling our guests to settle in and start relaxing more quickly.

The property was everything we had hoped for. A great location, within easy reach of some amazing historic villages and scenery. The owners, were exceptionally helpful during our stay, with great local knowledge and very good hosts. We will be back hopefully!

Comfort and tranquility in blissful rural setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a comfortable, well-equipped house in a beautiful setting. Our host, Simon, was welcoming and really helpful with recommendations for activities in the local area. It is well placed for a wealth of outings all within a 1 hour drive of the the house. We also thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the house and going for walks in the immediate area as well as sitting by the picturesque, sun-soaked pool and eating meals in the outside dining area. Paradise! We can highly recommend a stay at Mas d'Arjac and hope to return.

Location, charm and comfort

  • 5 of 5

Our visit to Arjac was especially enjoyable for many reasons, but it starts with the property itself. The renovated Long House where we stayed was tastefully and thoughtfully renovated. The descriptions of the kitchen, salon and bedrooms were as described and more than adequate for our use. We enjoyed gathering in the well-appointed kitchen and on the terrace just out the door.

The owner provided us clear direction and service, but the onsite "hosts," Francoise and Bernhard, were really a joy, answering every question and being available when needed.

Apart from the physical grounds, Arjac and the area around it, the Quercy, is one of the most charming pastoral areas we have enjoyed in France. The area is rich in medieval sites, easily reached by a quick car trip or even on bicycles. From the house, it is easy to visit some of the more notable cities and villages even as far away as the Lot. Arjac is an ideal base for exploring.

We have already recommended the property to friends and family, but we've told them that they will have to get in the queue behind us as we are sure to return.

Love, love, love everything about it!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I contacted Simon, I knew we had found the perfect house.

It is located in a beautiful part of France, away from the busy touristy places. Simon and Peter were perfect hosts and anticipating any of our needs, always available to make our stay lovely.

We were 6 (two adults and 4 teenagers/young adults) and the house felt big.

We spent our days visiting the most exquisite villages in the area. In the afternoon, we would come back to the house to "farniente" near the lovely pool.

The house is comfortable and decorated with taste.

Simon and Peter showed a lot of generosity towards our family and we will always be grateful to them.

We highly recommend this rental!

Très agréable séjour au Mas d'Arjac

  • 5 of 5

Car: necessary

Although we are in La France profonde, it is just 15 minutes by car to the ancient town of Villefranche de Rouergue. Villefranche is not only handy for its excellent shopping, restaurants, and Thursday market, but also has a fascinating history as a bastide – a fortified mediaeval town with a fine, arcaded central square and an imposing collegiate church. As a market town serving a huge rural area, Villefranche provides all ones practical needs in a stunning setting. There are no fewer than 10 of Les plus beaux villages de France within an hour’s drive of Arjac, as well as two Grand Sites de France, Conques and Albi. Easy half or full day outings can also be made to Saint Antonin Noble Val, Corde-sur-Ciel, Cahors, Figeac, Rocamadour, les Gouffres de Padirac, the Lot valley, St Cirque la Popie, Roquefort, the Viaduc de Millau, and the Gaillac wine region – all attractive and fascinating destinations.

Other Activities: Canoeing/kayaking from Saint Antonin Noble Val
