Beautiful Lowcountry cottage with 5 bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms, outdoor shower with hot and cold water. In the huge yard, down by the water, walk your own private Labyrinth built of seashells and cobblestones from the old streets of Charleston. For many years Sea of Peace was a spiritual retreat run by the Catholic Church. Now it is a vacation weekly rental for individuals, families, fishermen, kayakers, bird watchers, bicyclers, nature lovers, etc. Bring you favorite beach companion. We are pet friendly. Plenty of parking for a multitude of cars and boats.
Location is perfect for seclusion, reading, writing, painting and wildlife viewing. State park is very close making the bike trip to the beach so enjoyable. And the house is full of positive energy. Great for a wide range of ages and interests. Jeanette was a pleasure to work with and I am already looking forward to our return to Edisto.
This was our second stay at the Sea of Peace. The new deck is a real asset, and we certainly enjoyed it. It is one of the most relaxing vacation spots we have experienced. The location is perfect, quiet and peaceful, yet close to restaurants and shops. We received an excellent welcome package from the owner that provided information about the area and things of interest. It is the most professional package we have received about any property we have rented through VRBO. We appreciate the owner's friendly, timely and considerate communication and hope to return to this lovely site again and again.
What a beautiful island get away. The house is roomy and comfortable for both the kids and the adults. We started every morning with coffee on the new deck and we ended almost every evening with dinner and cocktails on it - the view is spectacular. We enjoyed putting in kayaks and paddle boards from the backyard! We loved biking on the trails and walking to the ponds to fish. We also enjoyed the screened in "game room" as well as the ping pong table! Thank you Jeanette for being such and accommodating hostess - we truly enjoyed Sea of Peace and would highly recommend it!
What a great place to stay for a vacation. The family had fun at Botany Bay and Shell Island. We had fresh blue crabs caught in the ponds near the house. All of the accommodations were better than expected. We have stayed at several houses at Edisto, but none as pleasing as Sea of Peace. We are already planning our next trip. The babies(our dogs) loved the large yard.
Thanks to Jeanette for all the information and help to make this a wonderful trip!
My family and I stayed at Sea of Peace over Christmas of 2013. It was our first vacation that was just our family. We found the house in the dead of night very easily and it was well lit. I actually teared up when I saw the master bedroom. The whole house is stunning. Beautifully done with an eclectic collection of art and decor. The house is fully stock, we didn't need a thing, blankets, full kitchen with ever imaginable gadget, fully stocked bathrooms. The house was impeccably clean. The new deck is amazing, get up early to watch the sun rise over the marsh. You won't regret it. My kids had plenty of room to spread out and play. They loved the hammocks. The labyrinth was intriguing to all over us and we all used it and added to it. There was even a decorated Christmas tree waiting for us. The tower room was perfect for my oldest and youngest to share, plenty of games to play. We explored the beach quite often and found some amazing shells. The family time was a welcomed blessing. Edisto is a slower pace than other beaches, smaller and quieter (at least during our stay) but the shops were all open and everyone was very friendly. We got a lesson on sweetgrass baskets from a wonderful gentleman and came home with a bread basket. We also had boiled peanuts, such a treat. We cannot say enough good things about the island and the house and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you for the peace and the family time it offered! (FYI the tower room does not have a door, but you can fit a baby gate, to contain little people)
Our short stay at the Sea of Peace was most refreshing. The surroundings are unmatched for privacy and quiet. The house is furnished with ecclectic pieces, beautiful artwork, vintage quilts, and everything required for cooking and dining. It is a short drive to the beaches or to town to restaurants or grocery store. The proximity to the park and trails is a real asset. We did not get to use the kayak, but hope to next time. We saw so many beautiful marsh and woodland birds, including painted buntings! The owner was wonderful to deal with and made every effort for our stay to be comfortable and positive. This was out first trip to Edisto in more than 30 years, but we are hoping it will not be out last. Thanks for a charming, clean and comfortable home!
An enchanting Edisto Island Retreat, Sea of Peace is located on the marshes of Fishing Creek in the 'Neck' off Palmetto Road very close to the Atlantic Ocean. The 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom, Lowcountry vernacular cottage is near the back entrance of Edisto Beach State Park and is an easy 30 minute bicycle ride over maritime forest trails, marsh boardwalks, and scenic vistas to Big Bay and Scott Creeks, the Spanish Mount, State Park cabins, Live Oak Campground, and on to the commercial district of Edisto Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Here you will find the beach-front section of Edisto Beach State Park, restaurants & other activities. Also the town of Edisto Beach has extensive bike trails throughout the beautiful barrier island. The 2-acre yard at Sea of Peace has plenty of parking for cars, boats, and RV's. Big Bay Public Boat Landing is approximately 1 mile away for access to the South Edisto River and Steamboat Landing is nearby for the North Edisto River, Bohikit Creek, Rockville, Kiawah Island, and Charleston. This area is famous for boating, kayaking, exploring, nature studies, old plantation mansions, seashells galore. Incredible Botany Bay is nearby and open to the public for exploring, hunting, surf fishing, hiking and bike riding on an uninhabited coastline and wilderness beach enjoyment. Sea of Peace comes with its own private Labyrinth made of cobblestones from the streets of Charleston and seashells gathered from nearby beaches. The Labyrinth was built by nuns many years ago for a spiritual retreat and is still used today for quiet contemplation. Sea of Peace is the perfect coastal retreat for relaxing, recreation, writing, art workshops, spiritual retreats, reunions, etc. The city of Charleston is less than an hour away and Walterboro, Savannah, and Beaufort are close by for day trips.
