Avid lover of the hardwood ecological environment. 2007 Indiana Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. 2009 North Central Regional Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. Retired from Indiana University in 2010. I play in the woods, that's what I do.
Robert Woodling purchased this house in 2009
We purchased this property as the last parcel of the original farm dating back to the 1860s. It is now part of our 103 acre managed forest. Enjoy your stay with access to the forested trails, wildlife ponds, birdwatching observation towers and still be within easy driving distance of all Brown and Monroe counties have to offer.
Enjoy all that nature and the surrounding communities have to offer during the day and a relaxing hot tub in the evening followed up by a movie on the large screen TV, listen to your favorite music, or just visit with family and friends.
We have stayed in a number of cabin rentals and have had a wide range of experiences. While all of them were good, some stand out as better than others. The difference is the little things. This property is obviously well maintained and the few 'small things' in the kitchen make a big difference in comfort and experience. Thank you so much for taking the time to put that effort into your property and our experience. My wife and I do not get much time to be away from the 'real world' so this really means a lot to us. It may be a business for you, but for us it is freedom, nature and just being able to be with each other. My only suggestion would be some trail markers. Your property brought us an experience that we will cherish for years. Thank-you!
P.S. This place is a bird lovers paradise! Loved it! And thanks for the wild flower bouquet!! :-))
What sets apart a great getaway cabin from a good rental are those little details the owner provides. The Elm House has those little things. A kitchen with everything you need. A great entertainment system. Extra hooks to hang coats, robes and purses. My wife also reviewed so I won't repeat what she said, but the woods are a real joy. Both to see how the woods are managed and to just soak in the nature.
We spent three nights here for New Year's Eve with some friends, and were very pleased with this property! We really like to cook, and I have to mention that this is the MOST well stocked kitchen I have encountered in all of my years renting vacation properties. So many sizes of pans, glasses, endless kitchen tools...The hot tub was wonderful, and it is so thoughtful to have quality terrycloth robes available. We hiked in the woods to take in the gorgeous views. Enjoyed watching some of the laser discs. Only issue was slow wifi, but it did not matter that much with a setting such as this. I hope to return.
Our friends rented this on December 30 and we didn't arrive until the 31st. I was was in awe of the stocked kitchen with Pyrex casserole dishes from the smallest to the largest and mixing bowls as well. Plus, the number of styles of glassware from champagne glasses for 8+, wine glasses, mugs, cocktail glasses, drinking glasses, etc. There is even a milk shake/ drink mixer! The probably is the coffee pot itself spills frequently when pouring.
The walk in the woods to the little waterfall and fossil hunting made for a wonderful walk in winter with the ferns and mosses.
We didn't explore the area as we enjoyed just relaxing upon landing in the simple but very clean home with a washer and dryer, too. Ample parking, too!
WIFI was the only problem on the first floor, but upstairs it was descent...maybe it needs to be moved to the first to help.
I hope we can return here very soon! I highly recommend this location for those that enjoy the outdoors, hot tubs, cooking and spacious comfortable beds in a clean home.
I felt like the doors were very wide if some elders need space for walkers, etc.
Very clean and spacious home. This is our second year celebrating our Thanksgiving here. Because of the time of the year we are unable to take advantage of woods and trails. I think it would be a great place in the summer. We did enjoy the hot tub though. Nice equipped kitchen to prepare our thanksgiving meal. Conveniently located to Bloomington. We hope to make it a family tradition.
The house had lots of creatures of home. Owner was available for questions. There was a great fire pit with ample wood. Everything was very comfortable and clean.
