About Robert Woodling

Avid lover of the hardwood ecological environment. 2007 Indiana Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. 2009 North Central Regional Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. Retired from Indiana University in 2010. I play in the woods, that's what I do.

Robert Woodling purchased this house in 2009

Why Robert Woodling chose Indiana

We purchased this property as the last parcel of the original farm dating back to the 1860s. It is now part of our 103 acre managed forest. Enjoy your stay with access to the forested trails, wildlife ponds, birdwatching observation towers and still be within easy driving distance of all Brown and Monroe counties have to offer.

What makes this house unique

Enjoy all that nature and the surrounding communities have to offer during the day and a relaxing hot tub in the evening followed up by a movie on the large screen TV, listen to your favorite music, or just visit with family and friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Perfect location to stay with our family. We all came from various places of the country to celebrate our daughter's graduation from IU.

We used the fire pit one evening which was a wonderful way to end the day.

Thanks for the hospitality!

Very clean and wonderful natural setting!

  • 4 of 5

The house was perfect for 8 girlfriends to get together and enjoy the outdoors while being close enough to also go to downtown Bloomington. It was very clean and fully equipped. It even provided hot water for all 8 of us to shower back to back! Highly recommended!

Spacious and clean country setting

  • 5 of 5

We came into town for a family reunion. The owner was gracious and allowed an early check in. The house was clean and spacious. It slept eight of us comfortably, with handicap access on the 1st floor. We even had additional guests over on our second night, and there was plenty of room for all of us in the large living area. We enjoyed a family movie on the big screen TV the first night of our stay. We loved the large collection of laser disk movies. It was an unexpectedly cold weekend in April, the ample fire wood around the fire circle allowed us to enjoy a nice bon fire the second night, and some even braved the hot tub. It was obvious the owners take pride in their property, they left detailed instructions for everything in the home. We would have loved to walk some of the detailed trails the owner left, but our time was short. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it.

Nature immersion

  • 5 of 5

We felt like we had the best of both worlds: a spacious, very clean house with some extras like the hot tub, and access to the woods whenever we wanted. The creek beds in the ravines were the most intriguing for us, searching for geodes, fossils and newts. There's just something healing about walking along edges of creeks, seeing how the elements have shaped the rocks and creek beds, and being among the trees in all their natural states of growth or decay; smelling moss and soil, and all the visual delights. And solitude; no one around but our family of five. And we probably only explored about 5-8 acres of the whole. We only had 2 full days, and it rained one day, so we relaxed watching movies on the large screen TV. The house was very comfortable. The upstairs is especially airy and light-filled, and was my favorite indoor area. It had the lighting of an artist's dream studio. Beds were comfy, bathrooms clean. We just really enjoyed our stay. We're glad to know now that there's a reasonably priced rental with access to woods. As is the case often when living near the woods, there were some Asian beetles (ladybug size) here and there. Not really an issue, except for our emotional youngest who has a phobia over them (which began after frequent trips to a southeastern state. ) So the husband got the vacuum out and controlled the situation, emptying the vacuum bag outside. All in all, this rental gave us an ideal weekend, and I'd love to return sometime. I know the woods would be lovely once the trees are green, and wildflowers and other plants growing there.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for the beautiful review! We are so glad we can share our woods with such appreciative folk. Please come back when the trees and other flora are in bloom, or in the fall when the colors are so spectacular.

Nice property

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six enjoyed our Thanksgiving at this home. Our first impression was how clean and spacious it was and perfect for our family to be comfortable during our stay. We were blessed with unseasonably warm weather and ate our Thanksgiving dinner outside which allowed us to enjoy the serene setting. If you are looking for a remote wooded location this is a great choice. We hope to make it an annual tradition.

Family thanksgiving fun!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great property if you are interested in spaciousness, cleanliness and country setting.

Perfect fit for our family of 6 to spend Thanksgiving. We enjoyed the hot tub, woods, laser disc, and spacious living room. We did some Black Friday shopping in Bloomington, and took a stroll through IU campus. Hoping to make this a yearly tradition.
