About Robert Woodling

Avid lover of the hardwood ecological environment. 2007 Indiana Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. 2009 North Central Regional Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. Retired from Indiana University in 2010. I play in the woods, that's what I do.

Robert Woodling purchased this house in 2009

Why Robert Woodling chose Indiana

We purchased this property as the last parcel of the original farm dating back to the 1860s. It is now part of our 103 acre managed forest. Enjoy your stay with access to the forested trails, wildlife ponds, birdwatching observation towers and still be within easy driving distance of all Brown and Monroe counties have to offer.

What makes this house unique

Enjoy all that nature and the surrounding communities have to offer during the day and a relaxing hot tub in the evening followed up by a movie on the large screen TV, listen to your favorite music, or just visit with family and friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Robert, I was one of the family members with Doug's group .. I was just amazed with the house we rented !!!! It was great. So clean !!!! It was so like just being home .It was really in better shape than my own !!!! We came from the WV mountains , so it was a lot like being home. The house was supplied with everything we needed and more !!!! We all enjoyed it very much !!! I have told everyone that if they ever need a place in Indiana to contact you !!!! You get the highest rating possible from this family !!!!!! Thank you so much. I hope we get to come back again soon !!!!! Donna

Family weekend at iu

  • 4 of 5

Stayed her for family weekend at Bloomington- a 15 minute or so drive to campus- but this was actually more affordable than a motel and room enough for the whole family. Would stay here again- I bet it's beautiful when the leaves turn. There is also a winery within 5 minutes!!

In a rural setting, quiet and relaxing. Plenty of room for your family to enjoy!

  • 5 of 5

We just enjoyed this place! It is very clean and with plenty of space for our family.

Our family loves to be outdoors and the forestry is very close for hiking, and fishing and much more.

Thank you to Mr Woodling for the privacy and relaxing time.

How to Keep Cool and Have Fun in Muggy and Rainy August Weather

  • 3 of 5

1) If you have *any* interest at all in forestry, woodworking, bio-diesel, greenhousing or milling, you must meet the owners. Get him to give you a tour!

2) Check out nearby Nashville.

3) Brew pubs in Bloomington are so so close.

3) Avail yourself of the awesome laser disc movie collection. Make your popcorn in the microwave.

4) Use the hot tub late at night when the air temperature is down. Getting out of the hot tub will cool you down more than what you were before! ;-)

5) Star gazing is awesome. Relatively small light pollution.

Notes:

The electric oven runs about 10 degrees hot. The range top also runs hot... watch out if you want to make your popcorn on it.

The extra futons may or may not be comfortable. We didn't try them.

Don't expect interior decorator level design. Think great amenities and all working utilities and you'll enjoy your time.

Oh, and remember, this is in the country so wi-fi and cell won't be great, but adequate for staying in touch with the outside world.

Owner's Response: It was unfortunate that the weather was so severe while you were here. Electrical storms definitely can degrade the wifi signal. I enjoyed meeting and talking with your family while we spent some time in the woodshop repairing a chair. Hope to see you all again.

We loved the Elm House!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend. The house was perfect and secluded. The private trails were fantastic and well manicured. Soaking in the hot tub after hiking was wonderful. There was plenty of deck space and seating if you have a large group of people. We will definitely stay here again!

Quiet and peaceful, just what we needed to slow down

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed having a place off the beaten path. The fire pit and hot tub were both very nice. The accommodations were clean and Robert provides a fully equipped kitchen. I hope to stay there again during another season.
