About Bill Wells

Bill and Sally Wells are the owners of the property and live nearby. Sally grew up on the property. Bill is a native of Upper St. Clair, PA and moved to WV in 1981 where he worked as a mining engineer. After living in several different states, we moved back to Fayetteville in 2012.

Bill Wells purchased this lodge in 2007

Why Bill Wells chose West Virginia

Sally's father built the house in 1955. We both love the outdoors and have vacationed here for many years. We were fortunate to be able to purchase the property for a weekend getaway in 2007. In August, we moved into a newly built home on the property. During construction of the new house, the original house was completely remodeled as a vacation rental.

What makes this lodge unique

The property contains 25 mostly wooded acres that are shared by the Ramsey Mountain Lodge, the Sugar Creek Chalet (vrbo #563229) and our residence. The house is secluded but is a short 20 minute walk into downtown Fayetteville where there are many unique restaurants, shops and pubs. The stonework on the house was completed by skilled Italian stone masons whose work can be seen throughout Fayetteville. The house has a roomy interior with hardwood and tile floors, stone fireplaces with gas logs, granite counter tops, hardwood paneling and many other features. A pool table is located in the finished basement and a stone fire pit and horseshoe court are in the yard. The house is located on the edge of the plateau and the view from the front porch is of the valley below and the adjacent mountains. The back porch overlooks an orchard and vineyard. Fruit grown on the property includes apples, peaches, plums, cherries, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and many more. One of our hobbies is wine making and we get all of our fruit from the backyard orchard and vineyard. The house is an excellent location for mountain biking or hiking. The National Park trail heads are only a few miles away. Larger groups of up to 29 can be accommodated by renting both the Ramsey Mountain Lodge and Sugar Creek Chalet (vrbo 563229).

Outstanding !!!!

  • 5 of 5

This property was everything we were looking for, it was exactly as it appeared in the advertisement. The property was very well maintained and the owners, Bill and Sally wells were awesome , they greeted us with a fresh baked loath of poppy seed bread which was outstanding. The property was secluded yet close enough to town, shopping centers and everything we needed. I recommend this property to anyone and we look forward to returning next year.

Excellent stay, beautiful land, spacious, clean home

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful time we had staying at the Stone Lodge. The home was spacious and clean and the land was beautiful. We were a 5 minute drive from Adventures On The Gorge where we spent a full day rafting on the New River, an excellent experience! We had two families with two couples and seven children ages 14 to 21. The information packet provided by the Wells gave us details on restaurants and activities which was extremely helpful. Thanks to the Wells for extending such wonderful hospitality to us! We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and would reccommend to others.

Great location, scenic property, close to downtown, close to trails and a comfortable home.

Loved the lodge. Very clean and tidy. It felt like home the whole time we were there. Bill and Sally gave us a nice welcome and were available for anything we needed. They did nice remodels of the bathrooms, great showers, beautiful tiles and vanities. Lots of storage in the bedrooms and plenty of space to socialize. We spent time walking the property, the woods and enjoying the fire pit. We also enjoyed downtown Fayetteville and several hikes. We did the Endless Wall trail which has great overlook views of the New River. We also hiked the Glade Creek trail up to the first waterfall where we went fishing. We hope to return next year.
