" We've stayed at several VRBO places, and we have to say that Swallow's Nest was the nicest. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!"
Separate, private, quiet, cozy and very comfortable 400 sq. ft. studio suite to welcome you after a busy day. Conveniently located to all that Victoria and the surrounding area has to offer, we are 10 minutes by car to the heart of downtown or the fields of the Saanich Peninsula and 5 minutes to the University of Victoria. Swallow's Nest has a separate and private entrance so that you can come and go completely independently.
The suite has a fully equipped kitchen, complete laundry set up, (detergent supplied) very comfortable queen sized bed with top quality linens (and comfy cushions for lounging wth a book or movie), bathroom towels, T.V. with DVD player, wireless internet, clock radio, plenty of closet space, in fact everything you could need to make your stay in Victoria comfortable as well as memorable! The walls of this gracious suite are adorned with original art by local artists.
If meal preparations are not part of your holiday plans there is a breakfast/lunch cafe just around the corner and numerous options for dinner nearby as well. (I've counted 6 fast food places, 4 pizza places, 4 deli's, 7 restaurants, all within a 5 minute walk!) There is a grocery store, pharmacy (with a fabulous selection of really good chocolate!), B.C. Government liquor store, Starbuck's and other fast food outlets within a couple of blocks. I've tried to post the local restaurants, grocery store etc. on the google map but for some peculiar reason a few of the markers ended up downtown! You will find a more complete list in the suite.
From Ron, a guest in early July;
Whenever I come to Victoria I visit all the sites,
Beautiful and historic; this results in weary nights.
At the end of the day I really need a place of quiet
The perfect place for me I've found, is lovely
Thank you Ron!
And from a visitor from Texas in September 2013, ...your unit is the most organized, cleanest, well thought out property I have ever stayed in. I hope that I am this way again. Thank you Allen
Although I have lived in this house for just a short while I feel more at home here than I did after 8 years in my previous house! And, I think, the suite has the same comfortable ambiance now that it has been freshly painted and decorated.
I have lived on Vancouver Island most of my life, growing up in the Cowichan Valley, and have lived in Victoria since I was a student, way back in 1970. My children were raised here and we spent many happy summers as a family sailing the waters around the Gulf Islands.
My son & son-in-law have done the landscaping in the front yard and in the warmer months guests will be able to enjoy the garden from their own sitting area. I enjoy gardening and spend many happy hours planning and puttering amongst my perennials and rhododendrons. In the cooler months I enjoy reading, sewing teddy bears, creating art and spending time with my grandchildren.
I have a large-ish, very quiet, dog, Molly, who is 3/4 Boxer and 1/4 Dalmation, so am unable to accommodate pets. She will be happy to meet and greet, with much wiggling and tail-wagging, should a guest so desire!
Jocelyn Harder purchased this studio in 2011
I feel very comfortable in this quiet part of Victoria. In less than 15 minutes I can be anywhere downtown or out into the farmland of the Saanich Peninsula. The trails of Uvic are just up the hill and are welcoming to dog owners - I love walking the park-like setting of these trails. I have seen owls, ravens, hawks and eagles many times on these walks, not to mention the wide variety of plant life.
Convenient to all that Victoria and the surrounding area have to offer, yet a quiet and private retreat for the end of your day. To give you a better idea of location, the closest intersection is Shelbourne & Cedar Hill Cross Road.
I look forward to meeting visitors but will not encroach on your time nor space.
Comfy and just plain awesome. A great spot for our honeymoon. Good size for 1-2 people, location was awesome. Everything was so well organized and well-stocked - even homemade treats! Thank you so much.
Suite had everything I needed: full kitchen, washer, dryer, clean unit. It was great to have some basic kitchen food items supplied, and the breakfast scones the first day were much appreciated.
Thanks for another great stay in your charming suite! We continue to enjoy the quiet setting, and the fact that the unit is quite separate from the residence. We can come-and-go without concern that we're disturbing anyone and also never hear any noise from you as the host. The unit is fully equipped and is a short walk from a convenient shopping center for groceries, a Starbuck's for a morning kick-start, or the pub for a quick pint! We appreciated the extra toiletries this past visit...we each thought the other had packed the toothpaste! Jocelyn, with all of the great recommendations that you receive we're concerned that word will get out and our home-away-from-home won't be as available to us on our future trips to Vic! Thanks again, and we'll be back in the coming months.

Saanich is a perfect location to stay, if you plan to visit Victoria. If you are looking for a quiet place, but still placed near the shopping possibilities and restaurants, as well as beaches, you will be happy here.
This is a converted one and a half car garage, but it's nicely done. There is laundry, which is great, but it's a tiny studio so if you run the dishwasher or laundry, you can't hear anything while in the rental, so plan to start those when you are about to leave for a while. The owner seems nice overall, but she is very particular and provides a binder filled with typed instructions that must be followed for most items in the apartment. There is a small foyer/entry leading to the rental that I used to make a brief phone call early one evening while running the dishwasher. She could hear me talking and came over immediately to tell me to stop because I was disturbing her. It was early evening. The kitchen is equipped to make most things and there is an oven, toaster, and a french press coffee pot. I would stay here again.
I stayed at the Swallow's Nest Studio with my six year old son in July 2016 and we thoroughly enjoyed the place. The studio is very tastefully decorated and arranged. Its very spacious, quiet, gets plentiful natural light and has all the amenities one would need for an extended or short-term stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and was very useful as I was able to prepare home cooked meals for my little guy over the week that we stayed there. The location of the studio is excellent. It is walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants and cafes, and the BC Transit bus stop. We didn't have a car for the first few days and were easily able to get to Downtown Victoria by bus. In short it was a lovely retreat and home away from home. We will certainly return to this rental on our next visit to Victoria.
We enjoyed a very nice and affordable week in Swallow's Nest Studio, late June 2016.
Everything is there (all basic appliances and some welcome food items).
The 'Nest' was clean and nicely decorated to make us feel at home.
Excellent and prompt VRBO support - and lots of information on Victoria.
Lovely and Comfortable - we would love to stay here again.
A central location to provide a comfortable base from which to enjoy the many adventures possible in Victoria. In the immediate vicinity you will find a grocery store, liquor store, drug store, birding store, several eatery options. Swallow's Nest is two short blocks from a direct route to downtown, located just 7 km to the south.
We are 3 km from the outstanding rhododendron gardens, Finnerty Gardens, of the University of Victoria. The campus also offers wonderful walks in the woods as well as the ecological reserve, Mystic Vale.
Mount Tolmie, a short walk or shorter drive, offers a panoramic view of the city as well as many kms of walking trails. For hikes in a forest park there is Mount Douglas Park, 5 km to the north, which has beach access to a rocky shore overlooking Haro Straight as well as a lookout which gives fabulous 360 degree views of Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula. For a sandy beach experience Gyro Park is 4 kms to the east and offers a lovely expanse of beach on Cadboro Bay for beach combing and sail boat watching. The Royal Victoria Yacht Club sails out of Cadboro Bay and has an active racing contingent of members.
A short drive or bus-ride will take you right into the heart of downtown Victoria and all of the tourist opportunities offered there.
