We've always wanted to build our own cabin in the woods in 1994 our dream came true!!
Terri purchased this house in 2008
We absolutely fell in love with Diamond Lake and from the moment we pulled up onto our tree lined street, we were sold! We bought our land in 1994 and started building our 'cabin in the woods' in 1996. It was a great little rustic cabin and being only 2 hours from Chicago, it was our home away from home! It took about 4 years to build on the weekends, and off time, and by 2000 it was done!! But in 2001, the area was devasted by a tornado and we lost 14 trees on our property! The home was built so strong though that the only damage was a little roof damage and our porch. So we tore down the porch and in 2002 added a 30x40 family room, basement, front and back porch. Our little cabin turned into a big cabin and we actually lived there for a short time in 2003. But in 2004 we moved back to the Chicago area, and decided to rent it out so that others could enjoy our beautiful custom built home and the great Diamond Lake area! We also have two other gorgeous homes, completely remodeled and updated, facing the Diamond Lake Golf course that we rent out too!! Our newest home, House 3, is pictured here and we just started taking rentals in July 2016.
So, after a day of boating or fishing on beautiful 1029 acre Diamond Lake, sit back and unwind and enjoy a great barbeque on the back deck and roast marshmellows on the outdoor fire pit. You'll want to come back year after year, and soon our home will feel like your home! We hope you enjoy it!!

Dear Terri & Dave,
Thanks for much for the use of your beautiful home again. It is so comfortable - truly a home away from home! And the new bathroom is awesome! We will definately be back next summer! Thanks again!
We brought our family, kids and grands- 15 of us! Rented both houses- super convenient and great accommodations. The lake was beautiful, we rented a pontoon, went tubing and skiing- a very friendly place and not overrun with boats. We had campfires at night, guys golfed and there's an Ice cream shop out the back door!! Highly recommend the location and the houses are well kept, the one was newly remodeled- very nice! Plenty of rroom and lots to do! And we brought the dogs too!
Highly recommend House #2. We recently stayed there with our 3 sons, a friend, and his son. The house was everything we needed and the cleanest rental house I've ever stayed in. As the only female on the trip, I'd have to say the master suite was worth the price of admission alone. My husband and his buddy enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and the use of the grill. The kids were really pleased with the private beach area, the fire pit, in the back yard, and the screen porch was the perfect place for all of us to gather to play board games and cards. And my 7 year old and I took advantage of the fact the wild raspberry bushes right next to the driveway were full of ripe tasty fruit. The neighborhood was very quiet and nice. We enjoyed walking around, checking out the houses around the lake after dinner. And four of the guys loved that they could walk right out the back door and head to the golf club house for 9 holes of golf. . .for only $5 each! That's unheard of! Would definitely recommend and would definitely rent again if we stay in the area.
The house was perfect. We planned a relaxing bachelorette party for a group of girls and it fit our needs perfectly. The house was updated with ample amounts of space. It's closely located to the private beach, lake, and downtown area. I would recommend this house to anyone and will hopefully be coming back in the future. Thank you for preparing a beautiful house for all of us!
Dear Terri and Dave -
Thanks so much for renting us your home. My girlfriends and I had a wonderful time during our stay. The house is beautiful and there was more than enough room for all six of us. We especially enjoyed cooking our meals in your outdoor kitchen, and relaxing on the patio. Thanks also for working with us to accommodate the dates we needed. That made our trip planning much easier.
My friends and I had such a wonderful time staying at the smaller property. It was the perfect size for all 5 of us. It was close to the lake so we could walk and take a boat off of the marina. We enjoyed the farmer's market, ice cream shop and many wineries around the area. Thanks for such a wonderful place to stay and relax!!!
My family joined my sister's family at House 2 for a few days - a wonderful family reunion. The house completely lived up to our expectations, shaped by the VRBO listing which proved to be 100% accurate.
The house was very clean, very comfortable, and made for a very pleasant stay. The location near the lake and right on a great little public golf course made it perfect for our young sons, who rode their scooters through the neighborhood and really enjoyed the freedom of the country atmosphere. The folks at the golf course were incredibly nice and very welcoming - the clubhouse is a minute's walk from House 2, and we made that walk frequently because the clubhouse doubles as a wonderful ice cream parlor :)
The bbq grill outside the screened-in porch was put to good use, and we really enjoyed the fire pit in the backyard.
There were a couple little issues - the face of a kitchen drawer came off in my hand the first time I opened it. The screws holding the face were too short to do the job. Tried to fix it myself but no luck, and I'm afraid the owner might have thought this was done carelessly or on purpose - it was not. Same thing with the faucet handle in the tub of the (beautiful) master bath - it literally snapped off in my wife's hand as she tried to shut off the water. Again, this was obviously not done on purpose but I'm afraid it may have ticked off the owner. Also on the very minor side - the long knives in the kitchen were all "dull," and the cable system did not include ESPN so we had to watch to World Cup games on my iPad.
We stayed busy during the day and chilled in the backyard around the fire pit at night. Diamond Lake was warm and clean in late June - the highlight of our stay was the afternoon we rented a pontoon boat and explored the lake, stopping at the sand bar for an hour to swim and relax. Our youngest son used the fishing poles provided by the host and caught a decent-sized bass, which we grilled and enjoyed that evening.
All in all, we can heartily recommend this house for folks looking for a traditional lake community getaway.
