About Suzie Hicks

Hi, I'm Barry Hicks! I live and work in a nearby community and grew up in the area. I enjoy outdoor activities so we take advantage of the local resources - like the trails, lakes, rivers and streams.

Suzie Hicks purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Suzie Hicks chose Idlewild

This cabin is unique and located in the perfect spot that overlooks a trout stream. It's just off the paved highway and only 2 miles from downtown Baldwin. Trails, lakes, rivers and other things to do are just minutes away.

What makes this cabin unique

Custom-built by a master guitar builder, you will not see another cabin quite like it. Beautiful cabin in the woods! We had a wonderful time!

  • 4 of 5

A great place to de-stress and unwind. Wonderful cabin with plenty of space for a couple or small group. Nicely furnished with full kitchen. Close to several small communities and many outdoor activities. A great place for a reasonable price!

A lot of things needed fixing.

  • 3 of 5

Me and my husband chose this cabin because of the unique architecture and wooded surrounding. The ceilings were beautiful especially in the bedroom. We were unhappy that we were not told in advance that the oven did not work even though it is listed in the amenities. We had packed things to be cooked in advance and were forced to spend some of our getaway grocery shopping. We also had to buy a lighter that we left for the next guest and batteries for the remotes to the television. The main windows offer a beautiful view, however when we got to the cabin one of the shades were broken off the wall and placed on the ground. We had to put up quite a fight with the DVD player as well. The first time we used it my husband had to pry it open with a butter knife and the next day it had a problem reading the DVDs we brought as well as the ones provided. There is a gas heater on the opposite side of the stove which was great however i would think twice about bringing young kids to this cabin because I accidently brushed up against it and left with a significant burn. Those things being said, the fireplace was enjoyable and they provided plenty of wood for our stay.

Great place for the money!

  • 5 of 5

I could be critical and nitpick about certain things but.... Where can you get a decent hotel room for 100 bucks. This is a great wilderness getaway (not quite as much separation from neighbors as I would have liked but considering hotels...) Great hiking, biking, fishing and hunting in the area and the history of Idlewild is incredible. Laundry, full kitchen, fire pit, lots and lots of room... all for 100 bucks. Great deal. Might just stay there instead of the camper for hunting this fall instead! Thanks for the stay.

Wonderful cabin get-away!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to come back to after a day of exploring the Lake Michigan coastline, or a trip to Traverse City, or the towns in the area. The Hicks were wonderful about not infringing on our time and were always quick in response to questions. The home is in a very peaceful, wooded setting. It is very clean and well furnished. I especially liked reading the history of the cabin that was in the information book that is very well put together. Would be nice to go back to again.
