Year-round cabin on the Pere Marquette Rails to Trails!
Property is 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath home that includes approximately 1500+ sq. ft. of living space on a 1.3 acre wooded lot that overlooks the Sanborn Creek in Lake County, MI. Located east of Baldwin, this cabin is easily accessed from US 10 near Idlewild.
The main living space of the cabin includes an open layout of the kitchen, living and dining areas. The main bathroom and closets adjoin the main living area.
The large bedroom contains 1 queen bed, 1 full bed and 1 full size futon. There is also laundry, 1/2 bath and closet space.
The driveway approaches the front of the cabin, which is set back on the edge of the valley that overlooks the Sanborn Creek. There is adequate parking for several vehicles, trailers and other items.
The back of the property slopes down to the Sanborn Creek. A footpath leads down to a bridge with a sitting bench and outdoor light. The path continues to the main part of the stream on the back of the property.
Hi, I'm Barry Hicks! I live and work in a nearby community and grew up in the area. I enjoy outdoor activities so we take advantage of the local resources - like the trails, lakes, rivers and streams.
Suzie Hicks purchased this cabin in 2008
This cabin is unique and located in the perfect spot that overlooks a trout stream. It's just off the paved highway and only 2 miles from downtown Baldwin. Trails, lakes, rivers and other things to do are just minutes away.
Custom-built by a master guitar builder, you will not see another cabin quite like it. The location is pristine and the details of the cabin accentuate the surroundings. 6ft. tall windows placed around the domed structures give you direct views of nature. Open beam construction and an open floor plan give this place a comfortable, homey feel.
The Sanborn Creek Cabin is far more beautiful in person! Mr and Mrs Hicks had the cabin ready for our arrival and we were welcome to use extra bedding, towels etc. It is in the perfect location for peace and beauty. I can't begin to say how perfect our stay was from the cleanliness of the cabin to its unique layout, character of the cabin itself, to the creek and spectacular scenery!! I plan on booking another trip in the near future. The Sanborn Creek Cabin is the "only" place I plan on booking in the area from now on!!!!
We are just back from our get away to the Sanborn Creek Cabin. The cabin was even more beautiful than pictured! It was very clean, spacious and felt like a home away from home. The owners went out of their way to make sure everything was just perfect for us. The cabin was well stocked and the owners were very gracious in making sure we knew that we were welcome to use whatever we needed (condiments, towels, sheets, extra blankets, firewood etc.)
It's a very quiet little town. But, it was an easy drive to Ludington, if you feel like more "action". Which made a really nice well rounded trip...some peace and quiet at the cabin...and some more adventure in areas nearby. We probably would have ventured out more in the immediate area but it was the hottest weekend all summer...and the air conditioning of the cabin was so welcoming ;)
We especially loved that the dogs could come with us. They enjoyed themselves too! It certainly was a perfect cabin for pets...but, in no way did it seem like pets had been there previously. It just really was well maintained and clean.
Thank you Barry and Suzie for a great stay. We will be back :)
This cabin was so much more than we thought, we enjoy all the comforts of home with the added view and surrounding of the beauty of being in the woods. We spent the week just enjoying the outdoors and the cabin. I had the best mother's day, got to have my mother and daughter with grand daughter come up and spend our weekend with us and made it perfect 4 generations spending mother's day in a beautiful relaxing cabin, with the men treating us to our special weekend :) Thank you Suzie and Barry for letting us use your wonderful place, and letting our family make our own memories in that amazing place. We will for sure be back, just now to decide on which season we would like to visit next. Thanks again for everything there wasn't one thing we were in need of while there thanks to you and your thoughtfulness <3
The cabin was exactly what we expected it to be from the photos. We had 7 people there, and had more than enough space to move around. The owners were more than accommodating, and great to work with when setting up our trip.
The property was very clean, and a really cool layout for a group of people who want to get away, and have plenty of space to hang out.
If you are looking for a place to get away from most things, but still would like the option of having a lot to do, at your disposal, this is the place to go.
Downtown Baldwin has a couple shops, and some hiking trails. A couple must go to's are Granny's bakery, and Jones ice cream.
If you want a lot more to do, Ludington is an easy drive from here.
We definitely plan on returning.
Nice cabin, wonderful great room.
Accommodating owners. The weekend was chilly, and the owners thoughtfully stacked dry wood inside so we could have a fire in the hearth.
We rented this cabin due to its setting and proximity for a fishing trip in Baldwin on the Pere Marquette river.
The owners are very accommodating and helpful. The weekend was wet and chilly, and the owners thoughtfully stacked dry wood inside so we could have a fire in the hearth.
The cabin is lovely, with a unique design and features. I think it would be great for families or groups off for fishing or hunting. The large "great room" allows for conversation while cooking, eating and watching movies or playing games.
While there is only one bedroom, it has several beds, and for our family it was fine. It had a sort of "lodge" appeal.
