About Kerry Brown

The owners are both in the entertainment industry and live in LA. He spent many years in Chicago, and his family owned the home next door. When presented with the opportunity to buy The Hideout for themselves, they jumped at the opportunity. They now own both homes and are now working on completely rehabbing the home next door (The Lookout- stay tuned...) to offer the opportunity for large groups to be able to stay close together.

Why Kerry Brown chose Michigan City

The homeowners love the feeling of stepping back in time when they come back. Enjoying summer like they did in their childhood when the days lasted forever and every day offered new, magical adventures...

Homemade root beer at Carlson's, the intimate Michigan City Zoo, building the ultimate sand castle, the lighthouse framing Chicago's skyline during beautiful sunsets, plus endless new opportunities!

Good location.

We really enjoyed our stay at your house. We loved the Jacuzzi and the big deck. It was nice to be able to walk to the beach and the parks. The only complaint I have is with the TV reception. The satellite dish was almost buried in weeds.

10 Family Together

  • 4 of 5

Another wonderful year spent at the Hide Out. Thanks so much for all the wonderful memories. We are ages 71 to 1 years old. The house was wonderful as always. The hike to the beach isn't so bad. One block and up a small dune to the beach for a 71 year old. This is our second year and the family loves it. Plenty of parking, kitchen is stocked, washer and dryer are wonderful. The hot tub is a plus. Played several games and ate out on the giant patio. The home is very clean and comfortable for all of us. The fireworks on the 4th were awesome, we could see them from the patio. The Zoo is in walking distance our little ones and even the high school grandchildren had fun. Thanks again for a wonderful 10 days!

A good deal for a wonderful holiday weekend

  • 4 of 5

We had a group of 11 people to stay at the property during the Memorial Day weekend. The house locates just one block from the beach and makes it very easy to access the beach. There are enough parking spaces on the roadside and on the little hill despite there's no dedicated garage to the property. We never found parking a problem. The house itself is not new but is maintained well. Electric, water and gas is available as expected. To accommodate 11 or 12 people, a entertainment room has to be used. Two of us had to sleep on a sofa bed. It was not the most comfortable thing but overall the house is big enough for all of us.

I was personally satisfied with the property considered how much we paid for it. We spent a wonderful weekend in the house and i would certainly recommend the place to my friend, with all the above points mentioned.

Lovely home on Lake Michigan.

  • 5 of 5

The Hideout was a lovely place to spend the weekend, steps to the beach and with a great deck perfect for grilling and relaxing. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Year-Round Rental

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 8 adults stayed in this excellent rental property over NYE weekend. The house was larger than expected and had such charm! The kitchen and dining area were roomy, as well as the living spaces. There were enough beds for all adults (and one extra!). We enjoyed the hot tub in the snow and even walked on the beach (only 2 blocks away). The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, and dishware. Not far from New Buffalo, where we took a wine tour (15 mins) or grocery shopping (7 mins). The property manager was VERY helpful. We were happy to find a place to fit us all, had amenities (hot tub, enough beds, large kitchen), and could accommodate so many adults for the New Year holiday. Definitely a place we'd return to in the warmer months!

(*setback for some - a long flight of stairs to get to/from either entrance to house*)

October Visit

  • 5 of 5

Our group of four old friends picked the Hideout because it is a roughly equal distance drive from our homes in the US and Canada. The house proved to be a perfect venue for us to reconnect. It has nice indoor spaces in which to visit plus the house is surrounded by decks on the first and second floors. We enjoyed both the gas stove indoors and the propane grill outside. The home was clean and well maintained. It's a short walk to the beach as well as to a nice park. It also didn't hurt that we were blessed with beautiful late October weather.

In order to get to the house, there are a number of steps to traverse from either the street below or parking above. This was not an issue for us but might be a concern for some visitors. Lastly, Michigan City has a local restaurant called Shoreline Brewery which has a nice, inventive menu worth checking out.
