Maplewood is located on a quiet street at the end of the Misquamicutt Beaches and avoids the congestion that comes with summer beach visits. You can use the beach passes provided to go to the local beaches with your car, if you want to go to a life-guard attended area and bring all your beach gear with you. There is parking for a maximum of three cars at Maplewood. In season we rent from Saturday to Saturday.
The sunsets over Watch Hill are amazing and are different every night. Be sure to bring your camera to capture some of these views as you look over the ocean.
Our family has been coming to the shores of RI for over 45 years and have experienced this unique coastline from Newport, RI to Mystic, CT. Having grown up in New England, we've also visited the most of the Northeast's coast from Nova Scotia, Canada to the shores of Long Island and Ocean City, Maryland. There are many beautiful and enjoyable places we have visited along the way, but none quite like here. We have many wonderful memories to treasure of our RI visits and know how much it meant for our family as we raised our children, and now our grand-children.
This location has all the pieces of putting together a fun, relaxing and memorable vacation as you enjoy the many activities and recreations available. Upon your arrival, we provide a notebook full of recommendations for you with regards to restaurants, recreations, shopping, etc. If you have specific needs in advance, we can try to provide that for you, as well.
This is a quiet street away from the summer beach traffic and congestion and it has its own private beach access. The views of the ocean, beach, Watch Hill, the pond, the golf course and even the swans who annually reside in the pond, the location couldn't be better. The main deck and two second floor decks provide private views that are unique and unspoiled by anything that surrounds the property. Three cars parking is an an advantage in this area, as you can entertain extra guests, along with your family.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous property. Inside has multiple sitting areas to sit, relax and enjoy. Outside has a wonderful patio with lovely views of the ocean
We stayed at this property two summers ago and could have written any of the other three reviews of the property from that year (and given it the same five stars). This year, however, a four-story home, shaped like a long wall, stands between the property and the marsh and sunsets. However, the photos on the web site have not been updated to show it. Now, rather than feeling open to the natural beauty of the marsh and ocean, the home feels constrained; as if it is enclosed in a compound. Worse for us, although the owner indicated that he had arranged with the owners of the new home not to engage in construction while his renters were present, we lost a day and a half to heavy-duty equipment landscaping terraces and moving giant boulders into a dump truck with a backhoe. As a result, the tranquility we treasured in 2014 was not to be had for what amounted to a good chunk of a one-week vacation. We were also forced to reset the router system for the Wifi five to seven times per day, which was not the case during our 2014 stay. Needless to say, this posed real problems for an attorney in the family who needed to video-conference and for the younger set wanting to play online games on a rainy day. Unfortunately, for the very same extended family that visited and left delighted for seven days in 2014, our July 2016 week disappointed. The house itself remains lovely (although in need of a deep cleaning of carpets and upgrades in linen quality and quantity), but for maximum serenity and views of the sunset, this is no longer the place. For prospective renters interested in seeing and judging for themselves if the intrusiveness of the new home is acceptable given the high weekly cost of the rental, I recommend contacting the owner and asking for photos showing the newer, four-story home between his house and the marsh. These should be taken from the porch and balconies where you would want to spend your "chill time."
We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay again this year. We only wished it was for more than a week!! The house was clean, well equipped and spacious but more importantly the beach was gorgeous, the location awesome and the yard was perfect for yard games. We are outside people that like to bike, run, fish and play. Maplewood really fits the bill for us!!
I actually do not want to write a review because I don't want this property to become too popular but in fairness to the owner I will tell you that this is a wonderful family destination! My family thoroughly enjoyed the house, the location and the ease of renting. We will definitely be back!
My family rented this house for the week and it fit us like a glove! The kitchen was definitely the main reason we decided on this rental and it did not disappoint! We had planned to stay home most nights and cook rather than eat out and this kitchen was well equipped and big enough for everyone to pitch in. The decor was clean and warm and the house was spacious but cozy. When we arrived I was at first concerned that there was no air conditioning but once we opened the windows a nice breeze picked up and it was never a concern again. Our group consisted of adults and small children and it was perfect for all! We will definitely be back!
Multiple choices for beaching, swimming, and other ocean activities. The surrounding area has several choices for golf, different types of fishing, cycling, hiking and outlet shopping. Rainy day activities are plentiful with Mystic Aquarium, museums and cinemas. Sightseeing opportunities abound with many villages in RI and in nearby Connecticut with ocean marinas as well in Stonington, Mystic, Westerly, Point Judith and Narragansett. Most traveling activities are within 20-30 minutes travel time. A trip to Newport, RI to view the mansions and shops or a ferry trip to Block Island are easily managed from this location and offer their own New England coastal experiences.
Westerly has a significant arts community with live theater choices through out the summer and a wide variety of live music to enjoy.
