GRAB A LITTLE MAGIC.... romantic cottage beside a little brook with campfire.
Romantic Paint the Night Cottage is part of a four acre property near waterfalls, flowing rivers, lakes in state parks that have full amenities and hiking in the ancient Catskill Mountains.
Skiing, seasonal tubing and swimming make our area a natural Disney World!
Our unique, artful, green dwelling is available by the night, week or month.
Tumble into bed to the sound of our brook singing, soothed by a heated tile floor downstairs or get cozy upstairs under the stars with a book or cup of tea at dawn gaze out the large picture window when snow softly falls.
A rocking chair out the front door, brooks 10 ft away, campfire, picnic table under stars twinkling.
The Cottage in the Wood best accommodates 2 people: (we have slept six but it is tight!)
Upstairs is our comfortable 'sleep under the stars' master bedroom with large windows directly over brook, skylight, small library, cathedral ceilings and hardwood floors.
Additional sleeping is possible THROUGH the master bedroom in an Americana themed separate bedroom perfect for the kids, mother in law or Uncle Harry - with a double bed (and fold up floor mattress for two if you want to pack people like sardines!)
Be aware, at the top of the stairs one must walk a few feet through the master bedroom to reach the second studio bedroom. (A large wicker screen is provided for privacy if you are two couples --- but please keep in mind, these two bedrooms are close.
(Consider reserving our other cottage if you are two couples seeking more intimacy while you 'paint your night' ha ha ha)
NOTE: Over two adults is 30. per person for a one night stay, kids half price, babies free if you bring along a mobile crib.
There is also a full bed futon couch in the (small) downstairs kitchen day room for another option but our downstairs room is small.
Often 6 people have stayed especially when spending time outdoors but our other cottage is better for six people.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for Thanksgiving Weekend, we wanted a weekend with just us two away from the crazy families dinner shuffle lol. The first thing that I love about our stay was the fact that we were all alone and free to just relax. I absalutly love everything about the cottage, everything from the location to the cozy furnishings inside the home. I literally ran out to find one of the awesome rugs that were all over the cottage. Waking up out of bed and stepping onto one of those soft rugs was so awesome. We had planned to cook dinner but we found so much yummy food and so many activities that we only came back to cuddle up and fall asleep.
The bed and the quilts I loved, I so wanted to take it all home with me lol. Who am I kidding I would take the whole house, it really made me want to have my own place nuzzled in the woods just perfect.
The location was great only about 20 min drive to Hunter Mountin, which has lots of things to do for the day. We also went to Woodstock and had an awesome day there which was about 30min away plus Mighty gave us an awesome list of things to do. We were lucky to catch the last day of the Woodstock Flea Market and the 1st Day of skiing at Hunter Mountain. We will definitely stay here again for a much longer period of time, I can't wait to come back.
The city-getaway I always wanted. What you are told you are getting, is exactly that (full use of house and driveway, pots & pans, utensils & cutlery, cleaning products, refrigerator & stove/oven, limitless hot water, Wi-Fi, etc). The only thing you need to bring is yourself, food to last your stay, and good walking/hiking shoes. Mighty is a phone call or email away.
My partner and I stayed in the cottage for 6 days - no TV or microwave (I loved it, my partner took some warming up, lol). A storm come through and knock out power. The very morning Mighty had someone personally check on us, provide battery operated lanterns with the batteries/extra also. There was always someone near in case we needed something. Mighty stopped by and gave instructions on how to find the watering/swimming hole seen in the pictures. AMAZING view. So much fresh air and space.
The only caveats I can provide: full dark does occur, not city night time and must have a vehicle. There are no street/road lights. You must have a powerful flashlight with you if you plan to walk at night. Drive with HID lights or high beams. Nothing scary jumps out at you, but if you are not used to upstate country living, the depth of the darkness will surprise you. There are no sidewalks, so walking on the road will be difficult for some. Also, the air quality is different. 30 degrees in Chichester is considerably warmer than 30 degrees in NYC - felt like a warm fall.
Take special care to read the general information Mighty sends you. Provides great ideas about what to do and where to go. WOODSTOCK is a must, especially the Tea Shop and the Art Supply store. We picked up 6-2 ounce bags of great smelling and tasting tea. I found coloring books for adults that are great to calm the mind. In Kingston, you will find: Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Burlington, Goodwill, Wendy's, etc. Each town is about 30-45 minutes away by car, but so worth the drive.
My partner and I cooked every other day we were at the cottage. The fridge holds that much food for 2 adults. The heated tile floors are to die for - felt like walking on warm stones. I loved the upstairs bedroom with the floor door (you have to be there to understand what I mean). Waking up to the sunroof was my favorite part.
It was so beautiful up there, that I am having a hard time adjusting to the hustle and bustle of city life, lol.
Please go visit Mighty and her peaceful oasis. I wish I could add our photos to this review.
We enjoyed our stay immensely at the paint the night cottage. It was even nicer than we had thought and very peaceful. The bedside creek was a great feature. We would love to stay again in the future!
