About John Gallagher

My family lived blocks from the property when I was born. I grew up in the Boston area and went to schools here. This property has been in my family for over 100 years and recently I completely renovated the house. When we are not traveling we live here and love the home and the location.

John Gallagher purchased this house in 2007

Why John Gallagher chose Cambridge

The entire Boston area has so much to offer, including sightseeing, sports, beaches, boating, museums, restaurants, bars and fabulous universities. Our home is in the middle of it all. Everything is new: appliances, windows, floors, baths, tankless hot water heater. We have it all!

What makes this house unique

We designed this house with the idea of a large family or several couples being able to stay here comfortably. Everyone has their space. Once you open the front door (after parking your car in the driveway!) you immediately feel at home. Visting children at school? Coming for a big game? Have a family wedding? Need a backyard space? Dishes, pots and pans and lovely appliances are all here for your use too. But the location is the best part of this lovely home. Be one of the first to list with us.

After wedding retreat

  • 5 of 5

We were returning from a wedding in Maine and with a family of 5 adults and 3 children and needed a place both close to the city and not to far from our newly wed son in Somerville.

This property was ideal and the standard of the facility available was as described and met our every need. It was comfortable and clean with plenty of well maintained appliances for the adults and spacious engough for our three grandchildren to play safely. A good walk to the T was only made strenuous due to the high temperatures experience during our stay.

We can not recommend this property highly enough and hope we have the opertunity to return in the future.

Thanksgiving 2015

  • 5 of 5

We had 8 in our group ranging in age from 64 down to 20. Everybody loved this house! There was room for all of use, although as always, the youngest had to rough it a little on the pull out couch. But they were still comfortable. There is enough room in the house that there was space for tv watching and at the same time a separate place for cards and board games. The whole house is well stocked with everyday essentials and was VERY clean - so important to everyone looking into this type of rental. Great neighborhood. We walked into Harvard Square. We have family in the area and hope to stay here again for another family get together in the future. Thanks to the owners of this property for a great Thanksgiving family reunion.

Excellent Location for sightseeing in Boston

  • 5 of 5

There were 6 adults in our group and we found this the perfect place to stay for our Boston sightseeing. The house was well equipped and plenty of room to unwind after a busy day. Lots of restaurants nearby and a short walk to the subway or buses to get into Boston. I would highly recommend this place.

Great location for Boston wedding weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our daughter was married October 2, 2015 in Boston and we rented the duplex for ourselves and two other couples from October 1st to the 4th. The location was perfect for getting in and out of Boston by car or by the subway. Off-street parking was a great bonus. The three bedrooms and three full baths were spacious and convenient for accommodating our crowd. We were impressed by how well the duplex had been updated. It was similar to staying in nice hotel as it came complete with linens on the beds, plenty of towels, shampoo, soap, and hair dryers. The kitchen was well equipped. We walked to the nearby pub and Cambridge Brewery where a good time was had by all. These accommodations provided a significant cost savings over staying at a hotel in Boston and also resulted in a much more relaxing visit.

Cambridge house

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 stayed very comfortably in this lovely house in Cambridge. We were in town for our daughter's college graduation & we were able to cook meals & all sit at the table. I really loved that there were three bathrooms when we're all getting ready in the morning! Great place to stay, I highly recommend.

Perfect house for 2 families enjoying Boston weekend

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 8 (2 families with 2 kids each), and this was a perfect rental home for our 4 adults, 3 toddlers and 1 baby. The full-sized crib on the 3rd floor was wonderful to have (vs. a pack-n-play that hotels normally provide) and the futon in the master bedroom helped provide ample sleeping room for all the kids.

The home has been renovated and is in good shape for a historic home in the Cambridge area. The kitchen was well equipped with all amenities one could needs, and there were plenty of linens and soaps, tissues, etc. provided to the guests. All of the bathrooms had been completely renovated with nice tile and fixtures. Most importantly, the place was very neat and clean! It is a townhome, so there are a lot of stairs, which was fine for our families but may not suit all travelers' needs.

The location in Cambridge was ideal. It is a 15 minute brisk walk to the Kendall/MIT "T" stop, off the red line but from there, you can easily get to the Prudential Center (for the duck tour), Downtown Crossing/Haymarket (for Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market/North End "Little Italy"), Arlington (Boston Gardens), or the Airport. The "T" runs frequently and is easy to navigate (buy a "CharlieCard" ahead of time). Our group likes to do a lot of walking and didn't mind walking the 15 min to the "T" stop each morning and back home each night. We even walked down to Harvard Square and the Harvard campus to take a look around (~25 min walk each direction).

There is a convenience store across the street that provides basic groceries, and more importantly a Dunkin Donuts 3 blocks away! 1 block away is a little community playground that is great for kids. A very good nearby restaurant is Cambridge Brewing. Additional restaurants are within walking distance (e.g. Legal Sea Foods and Chipolte at the Kendall/MIT station).

I corresponded with the owner a few times by email and once over the phone, and he was very nice and eager to please.

I would highly recommend this place. This was our first time renting a vacation home from an owner directly, and I was quite nervous, but everything couldn't have worked out better. It was a perfect long weekend -- even the weather was beautiful (sunny, high 70s) which was so unusual for Boston spring!
