My husband and I have made Isla our part time home for over 17 years! Our children have grown up here and LOVE the friendships we have made along the way with our wonderful Mexican families! We ALL would not trade this little slice of heaven for anything. The peace and tranquility is something you cannot even imagine until you come see for yourself. Why Sandra Usher chose Isla Mujeres

We were introduced to this little island by our dear friend Julie. We came with her on our first trip 17 years ago and bought our first property on that trip. We eventually built our little oasis 'Casa De Las Palmas' and after having it, we had a friend approach us that was going to lose this property. He made us an offer and we accepted. Boy oh boy did the fun begin!!! We purchased 'Casa Spanglish' February 2012 and just completed the total restoration in November 2012! Our contractor/friend Tony did an outstanding job with all of the construction, it was a WONDERFUL experience with an outstanding man! Our other long time dear, dear friend Ariel Adame drew the front facade for us which came to fruition and we were instantly in awe of the whole project!!! We could not have imagined it any more perfect than the way it came out. Please come and see for yourself, why we have found our other LOVE in this beautiful place - 'Casa Spanglish'.

What makes this estate unique

Having 4 bedrooms in total, but private. 2 bedrooms are in Casita Erika with 2 1/2 bathrooms, dining, kitchen and living room and then a hallway attaches the other two one bedroom units each with their own full bathroom, living room and kitchen. It makes it very private and great for families that still want their own space. All units open to the pool and front courtyard and it is all very private and beautiful. There are 3 king beds and one queen bed.

We have stayed at numerous houses and hotels around the island. Casa Spanglish is a hidden gem amongst them. Entire property was clean and recently remodeled. Got to mingle with the neighbors and they would bring us different foods to try and were very helpful with info. Sandra was so nice and pleasant to deal with! Can't wait to go back!!!

Great place, location, stolen iPad from property

We had 3 couples staying, so each had their own casita. The location is great. Within walking distance to a little fruit mart and a mini super, or a quick golf cart ride to downtown. Everyone loved the place. We had everything we could need. I especially liked having a 5 gallon water jug in each casita. We spent every night in the back courtyard by the pool.

The only bad thing is my boyfriend's iPad was stolen from our casita. Either someone snuck in while we were sleeping and had the door unlocked, or someone used a key to get in when we went to breakfast the next morning. That put a damper on the place for us. Pretty freaky to think someone came in while we were asleep. Make sure you keep everything locked!

Sandra was great to work with. She was very responsive to emails and informative, super nice, and seemed to really care about our unfortunate theft. Had there been no theft, everyone would have nothing but praise for the place.

Owner's Response: After visiting Isla for over 17 years, and renting property on Isla for 8 years there are lessons to learn for everyone. Many guests travel to Isla for a short and relaxing time off from the hectic world. Isla is the absolute best place for this; sun, sand, fantastic food, and gorgeous crystal clear warm water. However, it should be a lesson to everyone that you should never let your guard down. Guests tend to over indulge in everything from alcohol to sun. Guests have left everything imaginable, keys, laptops, wallets, iPads, cell phones, US dollars and even pesos outside around the pool area. Our cleaning people will bring them to us and ask what to do with them. Our normal response is "Crazy Americans" :) :) :) which always gets a laugh from our great staff. I can assure you our staff had nothing to do with the loss of the iPad. Isla is a very very small island and all the local workers know each other. If a person gets a reputation as a thief, they basically can't work ever again on Isla….yes, it is a "small" island. We pay our staff well and they get very nice tips from guests, so they would never risk stealing an iPad to sell for $50-$75 dollars. It is very unfortunate that this incidence tarnished an otherwise great vacation, but the lesson is, no matter were you are in the world you need to lock your doors at night and secure the property before you leave. Also, secure your valuables in the safes provided. Isla is one of the safest places to live in the entire world.

Love Love it!

We stayed in Casa Spanglish in the month of December 2013..... Totally loved it! Karl and Sandra always out do themselves! It is located right downtown which makes getting around very easy:) We had 4 couples staying there and it fit everyone's needs... Hanging by the pool having cocktails during the day was awesome! I have stayed in both of Karl and Sandra's places and each one is beautiful! The furnishings and accommodations are wonderful! I would recommend it and I will be back!!! Thanks Karl and Sandra!!!!
