Gary Notar purchased this apartment in 1979
I couldn't believe a waterfront property could be located just a few miles from downtown. We live in the former historic village of Long Branch. Long Branch was amalgamated into the city of Etobicoke, and recently amalgamated into the city of Toronto. Long Branch was originally the cottage community. At the turn of the last century , the wealthy in the city traveled to their cottages in Long Branch by streetcar pulled by horses.
Lake Promenade, our street, is an integral part of the Toronto Waterfront Trail. Thousands of people meander on the street on the weekends. They enjoy fresh air and peaceful stroll on the Promenade.
We were from a small town and always around water in the summer. We fell in love with our home when saw the views - absolutely spectacular.
The views are absolutely beautiful. Nothing compares to relaxing on a waterfront deck. The cool breezes will refresh you - even on the hottest day.
The lakeside is as beautiful as the pictures show and a great place for sitting out with a cup of coffee or a book. The apartment is also beautiful and spacious and Gary and Donna are very welcoming and helpful. We also enjoyed the wildlife in the garden (different to the wildlife we see in England). The location is good. You can walk to various restaurants on Lake Shore Boulevard - we particularly liked the 850 Degrees pizza/pasta restaurant - but you are also not far from the highway to take you elsewhere. The first day Toronto traffic was a bit alarming but I'd got the hang of it by the end of the week! There is plenty to do in Toronto but it is also easy to go further afield. We went to Niagara Falls and The Royal Botanic Gardens (which are lovely and extensive) which are both easy to reach. Thoroughly recommended!
We needed a 'home away from home' for a few weeks after surgery at a Toronto hospital, and this suite was perfect when my husband was healthy, but not really up for many hours of car travel. The location is calm and quiet, and sitting by the water watching the sailboats and the swans was the perfect environment for recuperation. Gary and Donna couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating, and we were so appreciate of the many things that they did to make us welcome and comfortable. Thank you very much!
Fabulous location! You couldn't be nearer the lake! It's also possible to ride straight into Toronto on the tram (about40-45 minutes). It is also situated on the Waterfront Trail which give loads of opportunity for cycling/walking. Gary was an excellent host and we took advantage of the offer of airport pick up/drop off and the bikes. Overall, we had an excellent time and the accommodation was as described and very roomy.
From April 20th to May 3rd my husband and I stayed at this wonderful suite on the shore of Lake Ontario. Gary Notar and his wife, Donna, were very friendly and hospitable. Gary was a generous host in that he provided extras when asked. My husband was treated to some early morning outings. We were there mainly for the birth of our grandchild so did not do as much sightseeing as on other visits. Despite the cool temperature we enjoyed sitting by the lake and seeing the opening of the marina close by. We would definitly recommend this property to anyone. Thank you Gary. The restaurant we visited the most often was Mildred's Kitchen in Liberty Village.
Our stay of three days turned into five. Gary is an excellent host and made sure we had everything we needed. The apartment is in a lovely setting on Lake Ontario. The two available bikes came in handy to ride the Waterfront Trail, and we enjoyed our walks in the adjacent park. Our drive to downtown Toronto was about 20-25 minutes and was a smooth drive. We especially appreciated the breakfast starter kit...plenty to get our engines running in the morning. We would definitely choose to stay here again when we return to Toronto.
When I was planning a four-day escape to Toronto, a city I had never visited before, I originally thought I should find a spot downtown. But then I ran across this listing and decided to give the lakefront ambiance a shot. Best decision I could have made. Gary's apartment (essentially a "mother-in-law" suite, located a level below his main house) is well appointed and attractive, with a great sitting area, a well-supplied kitchen, and a bed that I have to admit is better than what I've got at home. But the true draw is the backyard and deck area, accessible directly from the apartment walk-out. The lake is peaceful, the ever-present sailboats calming, and the wildlife abundant. Minks pranced across the patio, and swans and other water birds drifted just off the deck that is built right up over the shoreline. If I'd done nothing else but sit on that deck looking across Lake Ontario from sunup to sundown, that would have been enough for a great vacation. But Toronto is just minutes away via the Gardiner Expressway-- I did some shopping and took in a Blue Jays game (thanks, Gary!) The Col. Samuel Smith park is less than a half a block from the apartment and offers excellent strolling at any time of day, but the nighttime view of Toronto from the park is nothing short of spectacular. And Gary is the consummate host. If you're going to visit Toronto, do not pass up this opportunity for a truly unique accommodation.
Lakefront Retreat is located in the historic village of Long Branch. Long Branch was cottage country in the early 20th century.
There are less than 100 homes on the water n Toronto. Lakefront Retreat is one of those homes.
